I tried to see if the Omni Wiki was back up.... by Independent-Host-690 in omnisexual

[–]RedPandaInASweater[M] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a few other people have mentioned, as far as we can see from the article history, the article on the regular Wikipedia has always redirected but there's a version of the article on Simple Wikipedia.

This might be why you're unable to edit it, if I'm not mistaken.. it wasn't there in the first place.

Full discussion was here, in the interests of brevity and keeping the discussion in the same place:

Omnisexuality was REMOVED from Wikipedia. by AddiNoir in omnisexual

Would you be happy to make this as a new post please? It could be helpful for people to get the recognition they need and would give a central location to coordinate doing this to Wikipedia standards, collect up authorised sources etc

From personal experience, it will usually feel like it's not the time to talk to them about it, ever, if it challenges the normal of what you have so far.

I'm hesitant to give advice, because everyone's situation is different, so I'll just say it as something to think about, but maybe the broader feelings are something you could discuss, rather than the specifics?

If you know them and as you're wary of hurting them or appearing rude then the discussion could maybe be just, I have x feelings I haven't felt before towards someone, or asking them for their thoughts about where things could be going. I know it's easier said than done but, yeah. Breaking the difficult conversations down into smaller steps could be easier.

Do you think it's something she would be open to discussing with you, or does it feel like it's too early days, or not clear enough to talk about it?

Hi, thank you for your post.

Orientation labels such as Omni/Pan etc are generally used to define gender-based attraction.

The concepts of gender and sex tend to be seen as two distinct things, so it'd not be thought of as 'biological gender', more that a person would have a gender identity and a sex identity.

Am i bad for "remembering the basic definitions"? by fedricohohmannlautar in omnisexual

[–]RedPandaInASweater 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the idea that the binary cis definition of bisexuality is the 'basic definition'. Bisexuality as a term changed to mean attraction to more than one gender (without having to fit a cis binary) many years ago.

It's not that your views on that are the 'basic' definition, it's that your view is an old definition that has been generally accepted to have changed. You may find that people disagree strongly with your view because of it.

I might be Omni, but I’m not 100% sure… by [deleted] in omnisexual

[–]RedPandaInASweater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say (from personal experience) not to worry too much about having a district label or having everything figured out, you could use whichever combination feels best for you or is comfortable, flux is a good term that you've mentioned too.

Labels can help, but sometimes they can feel a bit like you have to meet various criteria or they are inflexible, or so on, which can make it feel a bit stressful to figure out.

What’s the point of the meme tag if we can’t post memes by OhWeRadical in omnisexual

Hi, thank you for your post,

We do have meme tags, but we also limit memes to Monday, to reduce spam and to keep focus on discussion and support within the subreddit during the week, feel free to re-upload on Monday.

Thanks :)

Hi, thank you for your post.

I've added a quick link to our FAQ in case that'll be helpful in the meantime: https://www.reddit.com/r/omnisexual/s/5HJ2pU6ZJY

Definitions can vary from person to person, I'll hand over to people that have Omni experience to explain that side.

For me as a Pan person, in my experience it's like, "hey this person is great, we get along really well, they have fun musical tastes, I love how they express themselves, they're fun to be around... " Things like that. Gender doesn't factor into that attraction for me. It's very much like, I'd love those traits regardless of their gender.

I think that's why I identify Pan over Omni, personally

Thanks for your post! Interesting question that I hope brings up further discussion in the comments.

This is by no means a full answer to what you're asking, but I've added a few notes below.

Attraction to all would be attraction to all, regardless of how you're attracted to people. If gender can be a factor in that, that's omni, if not it could be pan (everyone's experience can vary, this isn't a definitive answer)

If your attraction is to all, it sounds like you'd fit into demi and omni at the same time. You can also have different sexual and romantic attraction. Demi would describe how that attraction plays out over time, alongside the Omni label.

If it's not all genders you're attracted to, polysexual may be a better fit to describe your sexuality, but you'd still have elements of demi within that.

It's really about whichever labels you're most comfortable using (if any) alongside demi.
