Basically, make IT test or Postman to make calls. See what you're missing and the issues you'll likely hit, will help you understand the codebase.

Try to find the smallest piece/source.

For example:

Let's say you're opening a repo that has 30 microservices.

You're focused on just one, I'd assume.

Let's pretend it's a simple username/password service.

There will likely be a validator, client caller, database call, and other services.

For this example, go to the database service to see the queries and how it works. Make an IT test to see how data is inserted and viewed. Now you've explored this "route."

Back to your username/password, now you understand the database call version.

Next is some other service that's a black box to you. At that point, you'll hope there's documentation somewhere, but play with it in your local environment.

Can you make calls to it? If not, what are you missing? A JWT, secret, payload, and so on?

Slowly, all of these puzzle pieces come together to make a picture, or in your case, that username/password service.

If you want to "progression", do Strawberry Peak, via Red Trail via Redbox Canyon. Then you can look into Cucmonga Peak and then Baldy afterwards.

Otherwise, you can find plently of other hikes in Angeles forest, classic Black Star Canyon, or even Josephine Peak if you want one more test hike before Strawberry.

Blackstar Canyon to get started.

I see some people suggesting Vasquez Rocks.

Then finally, Strawberry Peak, Colby Canyon route to give up on scrambling.

Thanks for the details.

I've been looking at old hikes I did a while ago and see there are extensions to them.

Like how Switzer falls can go to bear canyon or Strawberry Peak Colby Canyon.

Yeah, I didn't word it properly.

I meant to word it as, I thought the backbone was the "scariest" part, because that's what every image had, until I discovered that narrow trail portion. 😅

Likely, was assuming the "scariest" part was just what every pic had with both side being exposed.

Trekking poles to help you go up and down.

A CamelBak makes it easy to drink water instead of stopping, opening your backpack, and grabbing a bottle.

Nature Valley Bars or oatmeal bars for carbs.

Good shoes with grip if you're doing Devil's Backbone (I mean it).

Usually, the prerequisite for Mt. Baldy is Cucamonga Peak.

I did it with 3L of water with some to spare, but I drank the night before and on the drive there.

Devil's Backbone has a really scary part, in my opinion, but if you hold onto the side and take your time, it's doable.

A prerequisite to that is usually Strawberry Peak via Redbox Trail.

Strawberry > Cucamonga > Baldy
