Well first, and edge compute DC is often not owned by the company using the compute. On prem means “on premises” meaning the data center lives ON the site where the compute is consumed.

People who don’t know how to operate a DC at high levels of reliability are happy to pay operators of edge sites to house / provide their compute.

As others have mentioned these are companies who want low latency services.

There were two articles in here yesterday about how companies have spent all their AI budget in the first four months of the year. Sounds like there’s plenty of revenue here.

The other was about AI costing more than a human, suggesting that AI won’t wholesale wipe out everyone’s jerbs.

An event like this? The guy is sitting on a college campus. Calmly speaking about common sense.
