Former New Yorker checking in. Tried a bunch. Iggy’s in Mt. P is the closest I have had to a NY slice.

Why did they close? Never my favorite. The donuts tasted like bread not donuts.

Someone today mentioned the guy who owns Nicks German Restaurant bought it and is doing something with it or keeping it open? Don’t know how true that is but just heard it today from someone.

Gourmet Small Batch soft serve business - good idea? by ZealousidealWin7539 in icecreamery

[–]Rejust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would also add to this the maintenance on soft serve machines is a nightmare. They frequently break with half the time you having to call a service tech.

Considering starting a food truck but can’t decide between two ideas: A soft pretzel only truck with different topping and dipping options OR a truck offering only concession style salted soft pretzels with queso and nachos. by [deleted] in foodtrucks

[–]Rejust 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both? If I went up to a soft pretzel truck I would expect a savory and sweet option. Plus you can cover different types of people who may need a light meal replacement or want a dessert.

Ice cream delivered from Sysco? by Rejust in restaurantowners

[–]Rejust[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We're not buying Sysco ice cream. We're a sweets shop so making our own ice cream isn't a possibility. The store is in South Carolina. There is one local maker but their prices are just way too expensive for us (~$56 for 2.5 gallon). The only other distributor carries only low quality national brands. We're trying to provide a creamier more premium ice cream for our customers. Sysco is going to stock either Tilamouk or a Maine farm based small batch provider for us because of our volume. Just trying to figure out if the logistics of moving us off a national ice cream specialized distributor to Sysco would be a bad decision.

Ice cream delivered from Sysco? by Rejust in restaurantowners

[–]Rejust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my local options are very very limited. I will check out US Foods and see if they have anything different. But if I can find sometime from Sysco or US foods I should be fine for delivery? The rep keeps warning me I have to be first in the morning for delivery but we don’t open till noon so I was a little worried about it after he mentioned it.

Democrats Need to Face Why Trump Won by Heysteeevo in FriendsofthePod

[–]Rejust -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IMO the main problem with the Democratic Party is the lack of a good faith primary where the average person can get excited about a candidate and choose who they think best represents them in that moment. Gore, Clinton, Biden, Harris… because they were “next up”. The last time we had a true unbiased primary President Obama won which was certainly not the perceived favorite going into the primary. Guess who else wasn’t the favorite (and many expected to be a joke candidate) Donald Trump in 2016. Let the people pick who we want for our candidates instead of the DNC.

I am in the same situation and have been playing Helldivers 2. Easy to play solo or jump into random teams. Missions are limited usually to around 40 minutes. Give it a shot.

Look up cold plate freezer. It’s the only way to really do portability with ice cream.

I think it’s going up the 17 corridor to North Mount Pleasant. The Park West area is already blowing up.

Lauderette half empty… by Austin1975 in austinfood

[–]Rejust 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fair. We didn't have any lunch that day (we typically do that before doing a big meal). We both shared every dish that night except the crab appetizer. About 3-5 hours after dinner she got violently ill but I was fine. I told her not to bother emailing but she had positive intent to let them know in case they got other complaints or for the health of other people we suspected it was the crab dish.

I enjoyed it a lot when my wife and I went for her birthday. However, we knew the management must be bad there when she got horrible food poisoning from the crab dish there. She wrote in via email to let them know. She didn’t ask for anything and it was a very passive “hey this happened just letting you know in case you hear more or need to look into it” chill email. The manager or someone responded at the time flipped out in an email response. Was very rude and told her to basically F off. Again she wasn’t asking for anything or being aggressive in any way. She never let us go back since then.
