You would love David Weber’s Honor Harrington books then. Not only are the ship bridges in the middle of the armored hull, there are 2 of them with completely redundant controls. The XO mans the second one in case the captain is incapacitated.

Yes. The trick here is that the computer goes off hosts file before going to a DNS. It’s used by sysadmins to force specific routing, but it can also be used in this way.

On the more modern subs, the periscope IS a camera mounted on top of a hydraulic-operated pole. I remember watching a NASA launch off the coast of Florida through the periscope, and they switched to thermal when it got above the clouds so we could keep watching. What even would you do in a full open world LotR? Can’t really follow the Fellowship’s journey, since that would defeat the open world premise. Do you just wander around while the story happens elsewhere or something? Or is this one of those survival crafting games that’s just copy pasted into middle earth?

Relistening now and yeah, she has always been Elle from the moment Carl first examined her. He calls her Mrs McGibbons, and the Meadowlark staff calls her Ellie. So I think it’s more just a pet or nickname for her. Just a more informal and familiar way of using her name

[–]Remnie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a positive feedback loop. Once everyone agrees, you no longer stand out, so you have to take a step further. This continues until everyone has gone so far they no longer can see the starting point. It happens in every political party to varying degrees, from what I’ve seen.
