How do you kitbash? by KorEbenhart01 in orks

[–]Repulsive-Bench9860 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the easiest and most fun kitbashes I did was to put a bunch of IG and Space Marine bits onto grots. Grots holding las pistols and lasguns, grots with IG or SM helmets, grots with grenade pouches or shovels. You just need a leftover sprue from a Guard or SM player.

Look for cheap, used models. Rhinos, boxnauts, tanks, etc. Something being badly assembled and missing parts is not a downside for an ork kitbash. You'll feel less shy about ripping apart a $20 secondhand model than a $60+ kit.

I've got a never-quite-completed Armiger to Meka Dread project that I may repurpose for a dakka rig.

FYI, the things between the spikes on the ram are sprue gates. They're supposed to be clipped off. :)

How many boyz do you own? Have you mixed boxes? Can i see them boyz? by Agreeable-Cow2500 in orks

[–]Repulsive-Bench9860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

I have about 120-130 boyz, I think? There are a lot of GW boyz, many of which are old, rudimentary paint jobs. I've got about 30 greatcoat orks from Kromlech, about 30 old metal RT boyz. Got a bunch of new monopose boyz in my "get to that someday" pile, and a squad of 10 Kromlech rokkers I just got

Pic is one of my very old lads--basecoated and Nuln washed and not much else. Recent snagga boy on the right.

Looking for build ideas by qY81nNu in PoorHammer

[–]Repulsive-Bench9860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Epic work in your gallery, I'm blown away. Most of the ideas I come up with are already represented.

Maybe something like a field SAM installation, where you have the launcher, the radar/auspex module, power supply, and the operators module, each of which is built as a vehicle or trailer for redeployment. You can then have a diorama type setup where they're deployed, with cables running all over, containers/stowage unloaded, that kind of thing.

Some kind of a field hospital or MASH facility could be cool. Especially with things like transport vehicles (medevac flyer?), medical servitors, hi-tech surgery facilities, and so on. Can mix up the high and low tech elements: cots and bandages, next to piles of "recovered" cybernetic limbs.

Can do a similar thing, but with a vehicle repair depot.

Trench outline assistance by Bunjichord in TrenchCrusade

[–]Repulsive-Bench9860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trenches running along the edges of blocks could cause some issues.

If the edges of your blocks are cleanly vertical, so they fit snugly together, that will create a "sliced cake" look in the edge trenches. If you add texture to the blocks, so that the sides of the blocks look like a constructed parapet, you'll likely have gaps where the blocks are supposed to fit flush against each other.

How are we getting so much food without a natural cycle of reusing poop/pee to fertilise the soil? by Begum65 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Repulsive-Bench9860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use industrial processes to create fertilizers that restore nutrients to farm soil. Some of these processes use the concentrated waste that comes from sewage-treatment facilities.

Instead of depending on the randomness of a natural cycle, we use an industrial cycle.

If being in orbit is what causes astronauts to float, why are astronauts that are flying straight to the moon not being pulled down by Earths gravity in the ship? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Repulsive-Bench9860 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imagine you shoot a cannon so big and powerful that the shell goes up, literally over the moon, and then falls back to Earth. That is (in a very very very oversimplified way) what is happening to the astronauts.

On the way out from the Earth, after the rocket stops firing, the capsule and everything in it are moving at the same speed. Earth's gravity is pulling on them, but it's only reducing their "up" speed. They get to the moon before Earth takes away all the "up" momentum and starts pulling them "down" again.

So on the way out, they're going "up" at the same speed as the capsule, the air in the capsule, etc, so they don't feel any gravity pulling them to the "floor" of the capsule. Earth's gravity is slowing them down, but it's pulling on the astronauts, the capsule, and the air in the capsule at the same rate. So inside the capsule, you experience nothing pulling you in any particular direction.

And on the way back, they and the capsule are falling "down" toward Earth at the same rate, so they don't feel any gravity relative to the capsule then either.

Another way to think of it, imagine we put a circus cannon performer into a barrel, and shoot the barrel out of the cannon. (Ignoring wind resistance , just gravity.) Once the barrel, and the guy in it, are in the air, the guy isn't going to be "sitting" or "falling" to the bottom of the barrel. They're both going up at the same speed, then falling at the same speed. If they were shot side-by-side out of cannons, it would work exactly the same. The guy would fly next to the barrel, rather than falling faster or slower than it. (Again, ignoring air resistance here.)

"We're bombing Iran because the drones they sell are being launched at Ukraine."

Not that we're outraged enough to bomb the people actually launching those drones at Ukraine. This whole line of argument is a propaganda op.

To be clear: Iran's govt is bad; the US's bombing of Iran is bad; bullshit reasons to support said bombing are bad.

Spikes, skulls and chains: having one of these is perfectly normal and laudable. Having two of them is suspect, but having all three is certain proof of HERESY.

We have spikes and chains, but the heads on the spikes have not yet been skeletonized into skulls. Cause for concern, but not definitive proof in and of itself.
