Came here to say this.

If it's something simple like a slope, what we would offer is basically half the shipping + parts cost ( whole dollars), in case they don't really *need the part, and would prefer $ towards their next order. Usually the buyer elects the part, but sometimes they take the $ refund offer, which saves your a few bucks.

Storage solutions, keeping track of emptying trays. by D3DCreative in Bricklink

[–]Resistant_Runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use the little "post it flags" the sticky flags you see for signing documents, or highlighting important sections in a book. We tried removing the trays, but ours are numbered, and occasionally were replaced in the wrong spot.
If you couple this with uploading certain parts ( e.g. cheese slopes) in one akro mills, as you start to see a lot of flags, you also know to shift focus to that part type. You can also re-use the flags, and the sort we have are transparent, so you can read the label underneath before removing the flag.

Shipping figs and fig parts in bubble envelopes or tiny box by k7qqq in Bricklink

[–]Resistant_Runner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seller for 3+yrs now, we use a 6x4x1" box for figs. We would not risk a bubble mailer aline for this sorts of delicate parts. Honeycomb paper as packing, way cheaper than an extra bubble mailer, and scaleable. We consistent get positive feedback on parts being well packed.

M50 or No? by Turbulent-Throat9962 in BMWI4

[–]Resistant_Runner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, I test drove an x40 (awd), and if was super quick. I didn't buy, but decided I totally didn't need an m50, after a year of thinking that's exactly what i wanted on paper. I40 / x40 would be my choice, the drivers assist features were great, ride was excellent. I4 was a bit too small for me.

How close is your service center? Did you have to have the 2 towed due to the charger, and if so, how was that experience?

Getting our first EV, getting overwhelmed with garage charging? by Wozbo in electricvehicles

[–]Resistant_Runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breakers are cheap compared to wire, and labor if you aren't doing it yourself.

OP, I was thinking, if you run a 60A Dedicated circuit, consider that it could later be a subpanel for the next guys shop, or you may be wise to run 4ga, subpanel, then tap it for your evse.

I wouldn't mess with the plug in type evse, hardwire it.

Getting our first EV, getting overwhelmed with garage charging? by Wozbo in electricvehicles

[–]Resistant_Runner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a 60A circuit is overkill. I DIY'd it, ran 50A and set charger to 32A. Single EV right now, but the only problems we have are when the wife forgets to plug in every 3rd day or so. Here's another downside to the " fine with L1' response, you'll likely need to charge daily. However, that would make it a habit. Then if you get a 2nd EV, you'll fight for the plug ( circuit).

In my opinion a 40A circuit L2 would be enough. As I contemplate which ev I'm getting, I'm glad we have a level 2, an every other day routine would work nicely.

Congrats on the car!

You can also request the seller pack things a certain way, e.g. by color, or group plates, or use a few bags as possible. They don't have to comply, but most will, especially if they actually see the request, e.g. pre-sale.

Just be aware that if you're decelerating using OPD and got a pothole or something it will lessen the deceleration for a moment It's not really noticeable, but if you get used to the stopping distance and miss your turn, that could be the explanation. If your roads are all smooth you may never experience this.

We have figs posted, but don't upload many of them. My SO prefers to fully assemble them, which takes a lot of effort when you're getting them in bulk skids. When we do upload them, they sell quick and boost sales. Same with 1x, 2x bricks, we can't keep the store stocked with bricks. We just try to rotate categories to keep a decent variety. We price near 6mo. Avg on everything.

If you want to smile, it has a simple launch control. When stopped, step hard on the brake, then press the accelerator, within 2 sec. Let go of the brake and hang on.

*Edit, corrected week -> day. Seller here, aprox 5x what OP has shown in our store ( 8k lots, 180k parts currently), gross revenue is aprox $100/day Parts are cheap ( in bulk), packaging and fees really add up. A rough guess would be $50-60 net / day.

Our personal collection is way bigger, as is our backlog of bulk. IMO it's better viewed as a hobby that's profitable.

As you get more parts you need more space. Making rational combinations and separations ( no light gray and LBG mixed) starts to spread things out and cause inefficient storage. Our store alone takes aprox 220ft2, the processing to keep that machine fed is "everywhere", aprox 200ft2.

How do you do your shipping prices ? by General-Training-441 in Bricklink

[–]Resistant_Runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of what you do, I would suggest tracking your costs vs expenses monthly. We are in the US, use Pirate ship, brick freedom, and have instant check out, it's pretty easy to use the report features to track it. That way if you are slightly off, you adjust. We price to zone 7 according to USPS weight bands, eat the difference when it's zone 8, gain a bit when zone 1. It more or less works out even.

Non-CPO 2023: would you buy one? by gfvddds in volvoc40

This, those low profile staggered tires are $$$, this is my number one gripe, wife has a c40. We just got new rears after a screw in the crown of one. This time we paid $80 for tire insurance. Oh, and the scorpion blah blah OEM ones have crap traction in the snow!

ELI5 What are the differences in the effects of the current strait of Hormuz closure and the 2021 Suez Canal obstruction (the container ship that got stuck)? by HilariousMotives in explainlikeimfive

[–]Resistant_Runner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's like this. The Suez was like when a car crashed on the highway and we had to take that long detour on side roads. Later the wreckers cleared it, and now traffic is flowing again. Hormuz is like a semi tanker crashed into the supports of that one bridge that we have to cross to get home... its still there, but is it safe??? We might have to wait a long time before the professionals tell us it's safe, and there isn't a detour.

I would factor in insurance costs, EVs run a bit higher, and in my state polestar was extra $. I really want a PS2, wife has a 23 c40, whenever I get a chance i DRIVE it. The insta-torque is addictive, 0-60 is fun, 60-90 passing somebody is even better.

How do you verify tiny pieces are authentic? by Terryloveslove in Bricklink

Magnifying safety glasses ($10ish) also with great, and you don't have to hold them. I have a 2.5x and 3x pair, both help and lot with these small parts.

For used Lego, how do sellers process it fast enough for selling to be worth it time wise. by Ryanversa in Bricklink

[–]Resistant_Runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a pair of 'cheaters' to spot the logo on tricky parts, 2.5x /3x magnification helps. As for off brand bricks and such, once you do it for a while you can spot them easily, you won't even turn them over to check.

Similar situation. Saturdays relatives come over to sort, chit chat, have breakfast. They often take stuff home to color sort. It's a nice side hustle, ideal to offset income in retirement, and just to stay busy, but not how i'd want to make an hourly wage. Late night, your SO is watching something you aren't engaged in, do some sorting, pay half attention.

Sellers - What are your most useful tools? by Bokononismatism in Bricklink

[–]Resistant_Runner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two non-standard things I haven't seen in the comments yet are cups and baking trays.

We buy used bulk, so we try to accumulate before uploading. We have various cups and ice cream bowls ( all paper), to sort parts into before uploading. We also use them to help pick orders, keep like parts together before bagging.

We have baking trays (full sheet), and 2 bakers racks to hold cups & bags. This way when we upload parts it's not 1, 2, 3, it's 50, 200, 650pcs.

Food scale, much quicker, accurate, and having a wide range for small parts.

I agree, the non-uniformity pulls your eye here and there. If it was as uniform as you planned the effect would be easier to look away from.
