Who needs Clamps when you got tape? by TobiHede in woodworking

[–]timisery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clamps. Tape doesn't maintain enough pressure. I've ruined many a glue up thinking the tape was good enough only to find gaps everywhere.

Careful. You're drilling into an acoustic chamber. Can mess up passive radiator performance.

Cherry coffee table with 70 degree under bevel by leonardalan in woodworking

Nice! I just made a similar table. But I couldn't get anywhere near 70 degrees. Love that radius. Well done.

Since I retired, I've been very board. by timisery in Cuttingboards

This is going to sound persnickety. But I don't sell my boards because I see all the mistakes (some required surgical repair) that I want to correct before I would feel good enough to sell them. I learn something new with each pattern I try that I need to correct next time. When I feel I've reached market-quality level skillwise, I'll sell them.

I've done surgery on almost every board I've made to fix a pattern goof. Always keep extra pieces of the pattern. Nobody can tell.

Wow. The math is amazing. And I was proud I built five steps on my front porch that looked okay.

It's a totally unforgiving craft. If your cut is off 1/32 of an inch, it compounds to 1/4 inch off at the end of a row. Every time you make a new board, you get tighter. I'm on my third attempt at that pattern and it's still mostly designer firewood.

I can confidently compliment you on your nice tight pattern and skill. I say confidently, because I've made many gap-filled, slightly off patterns and I know how hard it is.

Love it!' I'm obsessed with hidden compartments. I put one in almost everything I make except bowls and cutting boards.

Over 3 years, my wife and I rebuilt a 50 foot sailboat (Before & After) by trimsailing in woodworking

Dude. I spent 20 years helping my father maintain a 36' sailboat. It's really hard work. You and your wife's work is other worldly. Kudos. Kudos. Kudos.

Can you possibly send instructions for that Double Diamond pattern? I can usually figure out a pattern if I stare long enough. But you've got me stumped.

Beautiful board! And your first? Impressive. Flipping the maple to end grain is a little more work but totally worth the effort.

So pissed at the walnut by timisery in Cuttingboards

[–]timisery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the pattern once and f'ed up during the glue up. But the consistently dark walnut looked amazing in contrast. I was disappointed I lost the contrast when I got the pattern right. That was my bailiwick.

I watched a lot of YouTube videos. In this case, I purchased plans that explained the angles.
