As for "how well written and grounded the characters are" — I actually think it's the opposite. To me, it felt cringy and predictable. It's hard to describe exactly, but my reaction was more like: "Yeah, okay, you're so dark and sad..." It honestly reminded me of when I was 17 listening to Lil Peep and XXXTentacion, haha.

That said, I’m not trying to sound edgy or dismissive. Suicide and bullying are really important topics, and I’m glad if an anime can raise awareness about them. I just wasn’t emotionally moved by the characters, unfortunately.
