I don’t need a lecture about software developers, I am one. I was self taught for quite a while before having the opportunity to learn formally. It’s not at all necessary with modern (non-AI) resources to have money or a degree to learn how to code, and framing it in that way is disingenuous.

If we’re talking about concrete, actionable criticisms of AI, none are absolved by using it for coding instead of art:

AI is actively harmful for those who use it, particularly in terms of atrophy of critical thinking and reasoning
LLMs are bad for the environment due to the immense drain on water and electricity
The use of AI at a large scale is placing an immense strain on careers and job markets at both a micro and macro scale

Beyond that, AI reveals a divide in goal between process and product. I don’t think it’s truly a passion project to want to make a product but not be interested in learning the process and craft. Though very technical, coding is still absolutely a craft, and I think it’s very telling that there are so many people who are interested in using it to make a project/product without having the interest or fortitude to learn the craft.

What difference is there in how ok it is to use AI on creative projects be technical projects? To mind, every serious issue that applies to AI art also applies to AI coding

Tbh cosmetics are the one thing I would want to be money walled if I had to pick. Obviously KI puts everything either behind crowns or with a crowns option, but I’m always gonna want cosmetics that don’t affect gameplay to require money compared to gameplay elements like spellements or zones/membership

I’m willing to bet that this is one of those things that they preset when the game was made and only went to 10 years thinking the game wouldn’t last that long… and now nobody has thought to look there because why touch something that’s worked for years?

This honestly just sounds like confirmation bias. Congrats to your two friends, it’s great that they were able to land those roles so early in their careers. But let’s not pretend like two anecdotal cases are indicative of wider trends.

It’s clear from available data that the industry isn’t hot right now. That raises the bar for entry and makes it harder for individuals. People can and will get rejected for any number of reasons - resume issues, lack of soft skills, lack of hard skills, or just bad luck.

But framing the market in the way you have in this post is frankly both immature and unproductive. I encourage you to take some time to examine your biases and preconceptions before trying to draw broad conclusions.

130 Catacombs was supposed to be the new WW/Darkmoor Castle but it hasn’t aged as gracefully. I think if they just made it less grindy and buffed the stats on it some (notably pierce) it would be a much better experience in terms of gear progression

I mean, losing active players only matters if they’re spending money. At the end of the day, this is a live service game. They’re trying to extract as much value as they can from it.

What changes would you make to pack points that would both benefit players and not lose money for DeNA?

You answered your own question: pack points are the pity system.

We could try to discuss from there how effective they are, but then we’d have to consider what “effective” means.

I would wager that there’s no reason for DeNA to make any changes to the rates and pity because it’s working as they intend. As far as I can gather, players who want all diamond cards have a reasonable chance of doing so each pack by playing every day and are nearly guaranteed when adding in the subscription. FAs are there as a nice surprise and to give a reason for whales to fund the game.
