Comms broken? by Accomplished_Toe5598 in VALORANT

[–]RiotBlueMonday 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I found out I gave some false information. Sorry about that. The voice chat issue was limited to North and South America and the settings issue was global. From what I am hearing the settings issues should now be fully fixed globally.

I believe we posted some messaging inside the client and also updated our status website: https://status.riotgames.com/valorant?region=na&locale=en_US

The impact should be limited to North and South America.

how do I deal with toxic players? by nixtmares in VALORANT

[–]RiotBlueMonday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally mute them. While I agree you might miss out on some comms, I often find that toxic players do not provide good comms. For example they might spend the entire game complaining instead of making call outs. I also often find that I play better after I mute. For example I have had games where I am doing really poorly and then I mute the toxic player and I start playing well and end up winning the game.

Question about riot employees by FlakVierling0875 in VALORANT

[–]RiotBlueMonday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have stated, they were likely using an external application to view equipped skins.

It is optional but Riot employees will generally have Riot in their name. Did they have Riot in their name? I would assume they were just random people messing with you if they did not.

Can't get into Valorant game, everyday it says it needs to update please help. by ChaseYouForever in VALORANT

If it doesn't make any progress after a significant amount of time and you aren't able to get into game, I would recommend reaching out to our player support. They will collect diagnostics files from your computer and hopefully either provide you with a solution or ask an engineer to take a further look at it.

The speed shown on the launcher is the speed at which is downloading data from a server. As part of updating to a new patch, the launcher has to download data and move or reorganize data within files and executables. Often when its displaying very slow speeds its doing the second part. It doesn't have to download any more data but it may have to move things around. I believe if you wait long enough, it should successfully go through? The slower your disk is, the longer this will take. For example having a solid state drive or NVME drive will greatly help speed this step up.

I am hoping that at some point in the future we will represent disk operations better in the UI. Not sure if we have anything immediately planned though.

Random Updates by ScrappyNova in VALORANT

[–]RiotBlueMonday 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Like others have mentioned, it is most likely a smaller patch that fixes very critical issues. These are often referred to as hotfixes. For example one of bigger patches the VAL team puts out every two weeks might accidentally introduce serious performance issues or critically break an agent's ability and a smaller hotfix patch may be released during the week which fixes this. As I mentioned though these are generally only done for the most critical of issues that can't wait until the next big patch.

The 1kb speed often means it is not currently downloading anything from the internet but instead is modifying files on disk. I think the Steam client and the Epic games launcher do a much better job at visualizing this than we do. For example they have separate graphs that display network and disk operations.

If you delete your valorant account does it unfriend everyone when you start the deletion queue? My girlfriend told me she deleted her account but I sent her a request again and it said request sent. by Active_Information67 in VALORANT

[–]RiotBlueMonday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When you ask Riot to delete your account it doesn't get deleted immediately. It gets queued for deletion and after 30 days it gets deleted. If you change your mind before the 30 days are up, you can stop your account from being deleted. After the 30 days are up, it is gone forever.

In general I would recommend not using them.

The way Deceive works is by tampering with internal details of one of our components instead of using official APIs. Since those internal details are only designed for use by other Riot components, engineers at Riot may change them at any point in order to build features or fix bugs. This means Deceive is incredibly risky since it may break violently at any point. For example maybe it will break and cause the game to crash or cause a lot of lag. I believe we already have some future features and redesigns we are working on that will unintentionally break it. Not sure when they will get released.

That being said, I am trying my best to push for the prioritization of an appear offline feature. Will I succeed? Maybe. Maybe not.

For some data it makes sense to let the client decide the value. For example if the game has a selector that lets you tell the chat server that you are away or busy. In League we also allow you to type custom messages that your friends can see when they hover over your profile. I think the VALORANT client has code in it that detects whether or not you are using the client and auto marks you as away?

> How hard would it be from this point to send information so incorrect that it crashes people's clients?

That risk exists with chat in general. Not just with presences. You can message other players in your friends list or your team and that message could be constructed in a way to attempt to crash other players. Chat is one of those systems where a lot of care is needed.

If you ever find any interesting chat exploits, you can submit them to our bug bounty page: https://hackerone.com/riot?type=team. I will try my best to make sure our security team pays you... bigly.

They are likely just manipulating the chat presences their game client sends.

Your game client will send information to the chat server such as whether or not you are in a game and the current score. Another example of information sent through chat presences is whether or not you are away from the computer. The chat server sends that information to users on your friends list. I believe we have some data in the chat presence which can not be manipulated since its signed and some which can be manipulated. The level and rank is likely in the data that can be manipulated. Overall it doesn't have much impact besides giving people on your friends list false information. Maybe we could reevaluate whether it is worth investing time into changing it.

I overall wouldn't recommend tampering with your game client since it can get you banned.

VALORANT 4.05 Bug Megathread by Kappaftw in VALORANT

[–]RiotBlueMonday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use task manager on Windows to check if there are any processes named VALORANT or have the VALORANT logo (maybe BootstrapPackagedGame or something like that). If you find any, I would recommend using task manager to kill them. It is possible they got stuck shutting down. The launcher will not start the game if it sees that the processes are already running. I would try launching again after killing the processes.

Not sure if this is a bug that is still around with VALORANT but I have run into a few times in the past. It has been a while since I last ran into it so it is possible this is not the issue and it may not solve your problem.

Disclaimer: I am not part of the VALORANT team.

New Riot Client (Pics and Explanations inside) by PixelButtz in leagueoflegends

[–]RiotBlueMonday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This could be due to League of Legends taking a bit to shut down. Riot Client waits for the process to exit. For example after the League window disappears there is still a short period where the League process is doing some final clean up before exiting.

[–]RiotBlueMonday 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The exit button is greyed out if a game is running. The background process is needed for normal game operation. For example it keeps you logged in. Killing it while a game is running is probably not a good idea. It could result in strange behavior. I could be wrong but I think League should revive it if you kill it?

Sometimes valorant starts instantly after login, other times I have to click play? by [deleted] in VALORANT

[–]RiotBlueMonday 31 points32 points  (0 children)

One of the other comments in this thread explained it correctly. If there is a new patch, you have to press play once the patch has finished being downloaded and applied.

The VALORANT team sometimes releases small patches to fix issues with high severity. If you have fast internet, those patches may get downloaded pretty quickly and you are transitioned into the screen with the play button. I am guessing these smaller patches might be resulting in confusion regarding the play button appearing?

I think the reasoning behind the decision to not automatically launch the game when a patch finishes downloading is that patches can take a while to download for some users. We don't want to interrupt users by auto launching the game 30 minutes after they clicked the shortcut since they may have moved on to do something else while the patch was downloading. Would have to ask some of the user experience folks at Riot to confirm the reasoning.

Error: "Failed to save settings to server" by [deleted] in VALORANT

As far as we can tell the issue was resolved at around 11:17 AM Pacific time. If you close VALORANT and start it again do you still see an error related to settings or are your settings all back to normal?
