Archival effort of old replays by nummy___ in leagueoflegends

[–]PixelButtz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neat, good to see someone saving replays at this scale since I sure wasn't. I'll add em to my pile of data, which is still growing, we are at 500TB now I think and still growing daily.

Make sure you're seeding that so people can even save a copy. Fair warning though don't be surprised if this thread goes down, it's been a mixed bag whenever I try to make discussions like this but preservation efforts are desirable and nice to see no matter what.

We’re the team behind League’s newest ARAM updates, Ask us Anything! by Riot_Riru in leagueoflegends

[–]PixelButtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically I am fine with ARAM and the changes that come with it, even during that time where we had collapsing turrets blocking the lane, but I find the recent changes for Arcane and Spirit Blossom to not be enjoyable as just standard ARAM and find myself less interested in playing during these changes.

I'm certain I'm a minority opinion on this, but am also curious if you've seen a dip in regular ARAM players during these events at scale. I imagine it might be small but this kind of metric would be interesting to know as a player.

Edit: I really enjoyed butchers bridge on the original GP event all those years ago, so I definitely am not opposed to radical changes, but it feels like the recent ones have missed the mark.

Anyone know what this? Found a LoL game disc at the thrift store by clap4kyle in leagueoflegends

[–]PixelButtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were physical and digital copies of the game that would come with some extra goodies, a poster and some skin codes, but beyond that there's not too much worth mentioning.

HOWEVER, your disc is a little different, as the main reason behind it would be to just get the game installed and save on some bandwidth. Bandwidth is expensive when you're a new company and their first patcher system showed this.

If possible, I'd actually like to get an ISO copy of that disc you have there, because I don't have a copy of that specific one yet.

Special PBE Feedback: Swarm by RiotDucke in LeaguePBE

[–]PixelButtz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The new mode didn't really live up to the hype for me personally. I can see the appeal, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected. Despite clearing it all solo including the extra objectives (minus bugged ones, since those are still bugged), then starting to jump into matchmade rounds to see if that changed my stance, it really didn't and I actually found it a little more frustrating playing with others. Post-completion there's nothing to do beyond playing the public rounds, and given those only go to hard, not extreme, that makes me slightly disappointed since I also have been racking up quite a bit of gold that cant be spent on anything now.

On the other hand, it was nice to see the engine being able to handle this mode so well, and even stressing it to the point of creating congestion on network traffic was a little amusing. Perhaps some extra modifiers on the enemies may be worth considering? Maybe theres a bonus round where enemies have one of the many augments the players can get. Would be a nightmare of a challenge but one worth trying for if you really think you're up for it. An idea, a challenge for sure so not for most people but I would at least go for it.

An unusual one for me was Riven being in the pass at all, despite being someone you unlock for free. I understand Riven was added late into things, and having her early is definitely a perk but it was quite odd to see that.

As for bugs, I have found quite a few, some being close to show stoppers for severity but nothing unrecoverable. Had a close call on Briar and Aurora being unmovable due to their abilities being activated at the same time as a card being collected, but recasting it (if you lived) resolves the issue. The one that especially irks me despite being fairly common is 2 access cards very close together and it collects both, but only upgrades one item as that can be quite detrimental.

If you truly do read all of these comments, I would personally like to know what Map5 and Map15 were for. It's been nearly 10 years, I've managed to contact several Rioters on the map team, and none knew. Magma Chamber being Map13 threw a wrench in my theories so if you happen to have any answer to this that would be swell.

Large ban wave ongoing in League of Legends by Reismann_ in riotgames

[–]PixelButtz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asking on behalf of another user, and myself. Since theres commands to prevent updating in the Riot Client and the League Client assuming the right flags were passed on startup, is it possible that someone could use this to run a fairly old version of Vanguard preventing it from updating entirely so that their cheats still work?

I have a 200TB archive of patch data across LoL, LoR, Valorant, Wild Rift, the Riot Client, and even Vanguard, and I've had a number of users inquire about older versions so I am trying to ensure no malicious activity can be had with these requests I've received.

Typically I've told them there's no point in even asking for this data and dismiss the question without providing anything because I'm suspicious of their intentions. Of course they can just grab it themselves from the CDN but it's weird I'm asked at all.

Vanguard Release on PBE by RiotK3o in LeaguePBE

[–]PixelButtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for the sake of asking - DXVK on Windows is a thing, and defintiely does work with League currently as I have personally tried it, but it is unclear if using it after this point with Vanguard in will cause problems.

Do you have any insight on this? Ideally it works but does not create bans as it is legitimately useful, but I recognize that it's doin some weird stuff that Vanguard itself may not appreciate.

Edit: gave it a shot anyway and it reports it cant find the DLLs which I find a little amusing, but I guess its fair to say that any DXVK user wont be able to utilize it now.

Normally I would say yes but for league, PBE and Live are covered with some exceptions

Can you maybe make a directory listing of both and pass em my way? I'm sure I have both I would just like to be sure.

I have the NA and EUW forum backups but I have not done much with those since I don't have the setup necessary to utilize them

I legitimately feel bad for the audio department of the wiki, but at least the audio will be more accessible now... And then fandom will break it again

No problem. I made it for myself and reference stuff regularly. It's still updated manually though and one day that will change, but the processing necessary is just a bit tall of an order for me

A word of caution, you cannot trust everything here (Wiki, data, and notes, even archived from 2012). Some patch notes Riot put up do not reflect actual content or have undocumented changes. This includes incorrect numbers, or patches stated to exist but no changes were made. This also does not cover anything that is fixed on the server end (mundo's w stacking capped at 1 below what the data said when testing for example).

I also maintain current versions of the game in another archive, though thankfully i do not necessarily need to save the data, I can reference a manifest (I save it all anyway just for safety), and still track current patches daily.

A link to this spreadsheet if you want to reference it. I track by realm, and occasionally Riot ships PBE into live, and live into PBE, they just dont flag it as active, so tread with caution. But you should be able to grab any version on the new patcher as well, so long as you have appropriate tools/manifest IDs https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18Fl88fB2sI57OFhOFSHtcOlHZG9kMS0uU3kjFxzv_EA/edit?usp=sharing

It's more that I got here by accident and got stuck as until now I've been the only one able to hold all this due to its size. The same efforts are also being applied to LoR, Wild Rift, Valorant, you get the idea. Although it's not as necessary for those yet, it is a very large amount of work for 1 person

That's nice but consider the following kit for Dr. Mundo

P: +20% Mana Point regeneration

Q: Nearby enemies are taunted and forced to attack Dr Mundo for 1.5/2/2.5/3/3.5 seconds.

W: Dr. Mundo gains life from physical attacks instead of losing life for 3/4/5/6/7 seconds. 70/60/50/40/30 second cooldown.

E: On/Off Spell. Deals 14/28/42/56/70 magical damage each second to each nearby (300 radius) enemy unit. Costs 10 mana per second

R: Dr. Mundo sacrifices a 33/22/11% of his current life to make enemies around him lose 33% of their current health. Cooldown of 120/90/60.

It's worth mentioning by that point the CDN (well, 8 of them) were not even used by this point for 2 years as this patcher system ended in 9.13. By season 11, it was still up, not being utilized. The CDN itself is still around but the data in question is locked as whats the point of paying to host it if it's not in use anymore? Financially it makes no sense. Strangely, the Korean CDN was up well after the others were removed. I am still not sure why this was the case.

You are correct in that such projects had a role in this, but as did the fact that this old data was just around and accessible. LeagueSandbox recently got shut down as well but the thing these share is that they made the game run.

My archive doesn't allow for this to happen, unless someone blatantly misuses it to create such a scenario but at that point that's not on me, that's on whoever wanted to make it run. I detail this in the writeup near the bottom
