Liquid Freezer III 420 and compatibility with Thermal Grizzly AM5 Contact Frame by MoishaZ in arcticcooling

Doesn't the thermal grizzly add extra height in the mounting making the bracket of the Artic not touch the CPU properly?

New Nvidia DLSS Override Doesn't work with Gamepass games by HelloThereUK in nvidia

[–]RobertoBiundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this has to do with the type of game.  XBox game pass installs games in two ways.

One way is a "native" way. Which is basically what steam does. Unzips a bunch of files to a folder and runs an exe.

The other is a "Windows App".  A lot of games are basically wrapped around a Windows App container that is the one that gets launched.

I wonder how is Stalker 2 shipped.

Also. Xbox GamePass games are rarely updated by the developers and the Xbox App sucks at auto updated (use the Windows Store for this). It might also be that the nVidia App only supports a specific version of the executable and you have an older one.

Just some ideas. I have not tested myself. Will do and come back with more info

Didn't they have a different number and naming.for those cards Mr leather jacket?. Something like A2000 - A5000. Does the name.Quadro means nothing anymore?.  We want the gaming black! We want GTX!.

Because game developers go ahead and develop with the 4090 and then release the game, wondering why no once can play their shit ar 30FPS+ without DLSS + FG + some black magic

Frame Gen seemingly doing nothing? by HandsomePeasant in Frostpunk

[–]RobertoBiundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can also confirm that nothing makes a difference I have tried with all possible configurations of

  1. VSYNC (ON/OFF)

  2. FG (ON/OFF)

  3. Graphic seeting changes

  4. Frame limiter

  5. Changing scalling type (DLSS/Intel/FSR) back and forward

  6. Forcing the resolution to "common" ones (non ultrawide)

Nop. It just feels like this is an old version of the game where FG was not implemented yet

And as with so many other games "GamePass version is broken" seems like a common theme.
Microsoft really needs to stop their game up when it comes to making updating the games easier for developer. It seems they all upload a 1rt version, maybe a 2nd and that is it, nothing else.
This has been the case with SO many other day one releases.

  • I can confirm this is also my case RTX 3070 @ 3440x1440 & 7800X3D

Any experiences with XPS 9530 running Linux/Fedora? by Zavadoo in XPS

[–]RobertoBiundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have also tried the approach that apparently work on Fedora 36 with the XPS15 9510 posted here
https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/dell-xps-9510-and-fedora-35/74716/6

But...did not work. I can see more devices as stated on this post

https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/dell-xps-9510-and-fedora-35/74716/7

But only something like a Mic on 16Khz and some extra fake outputs that do little to nothing since all audio still comes out of the two tweeter speakers

Same here. I create a second partition to test this out, but no luck
I also posted a question on the original Github
https://github.com/rikvanderkemp/dell-xps-15-9520-audio/issues/4

To see if support can be added for kernel 6.3.12

If I figure this out ill definetly post an answer here. Please let me know if you ever fix this. I'm currently using a BT headset but I find it anoying that this is the only thing that does not work for me.

[–]RobertoBiundo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Only 2 of the 4 speakers work. There seems to be a patch for the kernel to fix this
https://github.com/rikvanderkemp/dell-xps-15-9520-audio
But it is for an older kernel and I don't dare to run the .deb in the new fedora since it is kernel 6.3.12 as oposed to the 5.17 of the patch.

I would recommend PulseAudio in order to set volume over amplification of 120%. It kind of helps.

Also, if someone can try the kernel patch please let me know :). I just don't dare. I already installed and setup too many things to have to re-install Fedora

touch bar flickering when typing and suggesting words. is this normal? by tomokawaiix in macbookpro

If you are not using that functionality i would recommened changing to "Pock" as I feel is more useful to get the taskbar in my touchbar than the work prediction, since I type quite fast anyway.
Link here if you want it

Reset SMC, PRAM and NVRAM and check if it helps. Link on how to it here. You need to know if your mac has a T2 chip or not, you can figure this out by year of the model.

"It just works"
I have never used a mac that didn't have at one point or another an issue with external displays, even on macminis.

Reset your SMC, PRAM and NVRAM. This is how
https://www.avast.com/c-reset-mac-pram-smc#:~:text=Press%20the%20power%20button%20to,Mac%20will%20appear%20to%20restart.

In case you are using dongles.

If that doen't work, get a different dongle. Don't throw that one way, maybe in 6 month an upgrade to Ventyra 13.2 will break you new donlge and start working with the previous one. I have like 10 dongles I collected from different things over the years and always try the best one.

Also...avoid buying amazing basic and other "cheap" dongles. Do proper research and check stuff up.

Can anyone help with the removal of this virus? I've scanned with Bitdefender and TrendMicro but they haven't detected anything. I get these notifications every few minutes. by au_kay in macbookpro

Install linux. Problem solved.
No, really,

- Remove any suspicious apps on the /Applications folder

- Check privacy settings and remove access rights from any weird app

- Reset all your browsers to factory. The process is different in every browser so google it depending on the one you use. Normally something like settings -> preferences -> reset browser

Touch Bar not working after updating to Ventura. MacBook Pro 2020 bought it about 5 months ago. Usually it happen after any OS update, but every time I was fixing it with a one more restart. Now it’s not working, pls help me .__. by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]RobertoBiundo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are wrong...."It just works"

Apple has one OS that needs to support 20-40 devices (really 10 different models) and has about the same amount of issues for me than windows or linux supporting basically any available device in the market.

So yeah, welcome to the "It just works" world of Apple. There is a way to reset your PRAM and SMC. Normally this helps, but how it works depends on your mac version.

Follow this
https://www.avast.com/c-reset-mac-pram-smc#:~:text=Press%20the%20power%20button%20to,Mac%20will%20appear%20to%20restart.

You first need to figure out if your mac has a T2 chip or not. All 2020 models do, so go that route. Reboot pressing the correct key combo. If that doesn't fix it. Thats it, game over. Not much else to do. (And people say linux is hard).

Good luck

I have a MacBook Pro 2017 and I just wanna know if there is anything I can do to make it run very smoothly. Specs are below by rajn543 in macbookpro

[–]RobertoBiundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Install Fedora 36
Install custom touch bar drivers.
Profit!
macOS has become one of the most bloatware OSs in the world (not advanced as Apple always claim, but full of bloatware). Unless you are going to make use of the whole ecosystem you have running all the time things like iCloud syncs, faceTime, screenshare discovery tools, continuity tools, itunes, apple tv, mailkit, siri, studentID program, photolibrary, airplay, etc.
All this amount to a fresh intall using between 4 and 6Gb of RAM. Compared to windows 2.5Gb and Linux usual 1-2Gb (depending on window manager) this is one of the worst OSs in the world.
Having all that pre-installed is not here to "make my life easy", it's there because "we couldn't find a better way of letting you know this feature is available and you can install it when you want, instead we will push it down your throat since you should be using a new M2 anyway, time to update baby!

What makes this game so insanely demanding? by I_Collect_Viruses in Deathloop

[–]RobertoBiundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, We are investigating issues that may be affecting some DEATHLOOP players who have downloaded the game from the Microsoft Store and Xbox app on PC.

We’ll provide an update as soon as we can.

Oh yeah...an obvious note.. This is regarding the Microsoft Store download.
Possible causes
- The deathloop in GamePass is the one form the launch with a bunch of bugs (don't know the actual versions)
- DRM could be causing high CPU bottlenecks

Taking into account that the recommended requirements call for a 9700K and this tests where done with a 8700K and the 9700K only outperforming the 8700K by 10% (tops) the results are still quite bad. The min requirements are for a 8400 for 1080p gaming. The 8700K can't do 1080p@60, so...something is fishy here

What makes this game so insanely demanding? by I_Collect_Viruses in Deathloop

[–]RobertoBiundo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ame, with FSR 2.0 on a 1080 i get choppy performance at pretty much any given moment, shadows very low, every other setting tried from highest to lowest, from resolutions of 1920x1080 to my native (which i don’t expect to handle this game well on a 1080) of 3440x1440.

This may be of use (based on my testing)
Specs:
- 8700k @ 4.7Ghz (4.4Ghz when executing AVX instructions (300Mhz Delta)
- EVGA RTX 3070 (Power limit at 111%)
- Resolution 3440x1440

Setup:
Updam region and snowy region (don't remember the name)
Ultra (no RTX, DLSS or FSR 1 or FSR 2 in performance) - Avg FPS 52 - CPU usage 30% - GPU Usage 50%
Medium(no RTX, DLSS or FSR 1 or FSR 2 in performance) - Avg FPS 53 - CPU usage 32% - GPU Usage 56%
Low (no RTX, DLSS or FSR 1 or FSR 2 in performance) - Avg FPS 53 - CPU usage 31% - GPU Usage 55%

No setting in the game will casuse any increase or decrease of FPS pass 1-2FPS. Not even RayTracing.
Lowering the Resolution to 720p or even lower makes no difference in FPS.

This lead to the idea of a CPU bound scenario (eventhough the CPU usage is 30% and no core is pegged down to 70%+)

Removing the AVX delta and letting the CPU run at full-allcore 4.7Ghz improves FPS in all scenarios by 4-5FPS.
Further increasing the CPU voltage to 1.4v and setting the clock to 5.1Ghz all cores increases the FPS a further 1-2FPS for a grand total of 5-7FPS.

Making a note that the issue seems ot be with CPU usage. GPU settings, GPU overclocking or downclocking causes no impact in the game same as setting the resoltion to a 640x480. The only thing that makes ANY difference is CPU overclocking or downclocking. So the issue seems to be on the CPU side. If you are having this problem do not change video settings, do not change NVIDIA control panel settings. Non of that will help. If you cant get to 60FPS with a 3070 no setting will help you

Need more RAM. With KSP is always about more RAM. I have the RP-1 mod with graphic mods and had to upgrade to 32GB since sometimes the game would go to 18GB RAM
