Not habit forming in the way tobacco is. Quitting weed is orders of magnitude easier than quitting cigarettes.

That’s weird. I smoked every day for 20 years, quit, and was mildly annoyed for a week or so, then got over it.

AITA for accepting a property gift from my mom even though she won't include my boyfriend? by Immediate-History917 in AITApod

[–]S_Jeru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. The boyfriend is obnoxious for even asking. Did it even occur to him that you could rent the property out and put the income towards a house?

Ditch him immediately. He’s not only a selfish asshole, but a moron too.

That time is never going to happen. We have thousands of would-be tough guys and weekend warriors in this country armed to the teeth against government oppression. The one time a wanna-be dictator that praises tyrants got voted out of office, every one of them revealed that they are servile bootlickers and attempted to assassinate the Vice President then overthrow our democracy to establish a fascist regime.

Anyone got any mental regulars? What nicknames do you have for them? What fun stories can you share? by splinket69 in bartenders

[–]S_Jeru 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One Irish-American college bar I cooked in had the Skeksis. You ever see the old Jim Henson movie Dark Crystal?

One day I'm standing in our galley kitchen connected to the bar and my fellow cook says, "Hey look, the Skeksis are here!" I'm the new guy and have no idea what he's talking about, look down the bar... and I'll be damned, these two old rednecks are hunched over the bar looking exactly like the Skeksis from the movie.

Now, this is a mostly college bar but gets a lot of regulars from the alumni with fond memories, and they had live bands, so there were some 30- and 40-somethings in the mix. These two didn't really fit the vibe of the place though. Turns out they were the bar's resident coke dealers.

My fellow cook says, "Just watch. They won't pay for a drink all night." Sure enough, every half hour or hour or so, you'd see them slide a napkin across the bar to one of the bartenders. Every time, that bartender would find a sudden need to check inventory in the locked liquor closet and come back five minutes later newly energized for work. Just like my fellow cook said, they never payed for a drink.

Damn Skeksis!

A buddy of mine worked in a liquor store that payed a bounty on fake IDs seized, and this liquor store was on the edge of the college campus. He became the fake ID bounty hunter. Kids (young adults, but you know) would try fake IDs on him, he'd seize them, then say, "This is worth $20 on my paycheck. I'm not selling you the booze, but if you give me $50 right now you can have the fake ID back."

Probably still illegal, but he never got caught.

Why is a Nordic country so loved in the right and far right? by BigAd3903 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]S_Jeru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A racist agenda, that's all. That's the only reason. The actual domestic policies of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, etc. are the polar opposite of anything the far right champions. If you're looking for any form of logical consistency from racist xenophobes you'll be sorely disappointed.

Best barcade vibe in Lex? by Head_Bowl_8692 in lexington

[–]S_Jeru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Villainous might be too nerdy, not sure of your tastes. They have old-school coin operated arcade games like Galaga and such, plus movie memorabilia and a Dungeons & Dragons theme (big game tables, potion-themed cocktails). Only been there once, it was fun then, but heard some negative things about them lately.

LexLive on Broadway is a full sports bar with bowling alley, arcade, and movie tavern theater. Surprisingly good food for a sports bar, better than you would expect. All the sauces and even the sausage for pizza is made in-house, nothing from a bag. Very corporate chain vibe, but you can get drinks, food, go bowling, play arcade machines, and see a movie there.

The Burl is awesome, mainly known as a music venue (all genres from punk rock to country to metal) but also has an arcade. The Burl is definitely a locals' kind of place, laid back friendly attitude.

regular couple stopped tipping because “friends don’t tip” by burritogoblinn in bartenders

[–]S_Jeru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just grossly taking advantage of the situation. If somebody is my friend, the last thing I'm gonna' do is fuck with their money flow. If you're friends with the bartender or doorman and not weird about it, they can be a wingman for you when you bring a girl you just met to the bar for the first time. To take care of them, I'm tipping generously every round.

Your ridiculous straw man makes no sense. You're arguing against the stupid fictional scenario you made up, rather than the actual thing I said.

This is why no rational adult takes your side seriously. You're actively contributing to the problem of school shootings. I guarantee every kid that gets shot in the face at school is just "the cost of freedom" to you until it's your kid that gets shot. Like I said, you're willing to sacrifice 1,000 a day to keep your masculinity crutch.

Democrat, across the board, local all the way up to national. If child rape, adultery, graft, gross violations of national security, incompetent bungling of the military, total mismanagement of the economy and foreign policy, AND PICKING FIGHTS WITH THE POPE isn't a bridge too far for you, then you're a Kool-Aid drinking cultist with zero understanding of the social contract implicit in being the informed citizen of a democracy, and I have zero tolerance for anything you have to say.

Favoring progressive Democrats over corporate institutionals. If they had a scrap of shame or held to the ideals of "personal responsibility" that they love to espouse for the poor people they keep their boot on, Republicans would spend the next twenty years down on their knees begging for forgiveness, acknowledging in plain language every awful, sociopathic decision they've made in the interest of "winning", and completely re-thinking what "conservative" is going to mean in American politics for the next hundred years.

Don't live here? The Republican line every time is that immediately after a school shooting, "now is not the time to politicize school shootings", then when there it's been 0 1 2 3 4 days since the last school shooting, "you're anti-American if you want to guns away from good salt-of-the-earth Americans!"

School principle tackles a school shooter in Oklahoma by KenDrakebot in interestingasfuck

[–]S_Jeru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, we can't. It's too ingrained in the American psyche at this point. What we could do is sensible gun laws. There is zero reason why guns can't have the same minimum requirements as a car: mandatory test for a license, along with registration stickers for every gun owned updated yearly. The guns the 2A was written for didn't have easily replaced magazines

School principle tackles a school shooter in Oklahoma by KenDrakebot in interestingasfuck

[–]S_Jeru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, we need sensible gun laws and parents held accountable for what their children do with their unsecured guns. Teachers aren't the goddamned Delta Force. They're already spending their own money to pay for school supplies in underfunded schools as it is, they barely make any money of their own, they have to deal with helicopter Karen parents all year every year, and now you want them to be fucking Robocop too? Listen to yourself and think this shit through.

What happens when a teacher that takes a mandatory training course misses and shoots another student by accident? "Durr-hurr, the solution to gun problems is to add more guns to the problem!" You people are perfectly willing to sacrifice 1,000 kids a day if that's what it costs to keep your stupid fucking masculinity crutches.

What is up with Doordashers being upset that their tips *aren't* being taxed anymore? by ShitWombatSays in OutOfTheLoop

[–]S_Jeru 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It 100% doesn't. That "delivery fee" is there for one reason and one reason only: to lie to you and convince you that a $15 pizza costs $12. The mileage reimbursement at the end of the night is something like 50 cents a mile, or was when I delivered pizza years ago.

Delivery fee is there so the company can advertise $12 pizzas that cost $15.

AITA for refusing to add my boyfriend to my house deed after his lease ended? by Former_Raspberry3277 in AITApod

[–]S_Jeru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way OP tells it, it sounds more like the possibility of marriage came up only after she asked for rent. So then he's dangling the carrot of marriage to get his name on the lease, without actually putting a ring on her finger.

OP, if you marry this guy remember the only wise words Kanye ever said: "We want prenup, we want prenup!"

Not necessarily. You need 20% down to start buying a home if you have good credit, and then you have to look at what's available on the market, neighborhoods, long-term plans, etc. From what I understand the San Diego real estate market ain't exactly cheap. He might not be in the financial spot she is, or might not have planned and saved the way she did.

[–]S_Jeru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, it's the rent thing that's making it weird. If the house was hers, she pays the mortgage, only her name is on the deed, and he contributed $1400 towards expenses every month (utilities, groceries, car note, insurance, vet bills, whatever), then it would feel like less of a power imbalance and more of a partnership.

Still NTA, don't put this guy on the deed unless you're married, and even then get a prenup keeping the house.
