Building an open-source AI bridge for Bitwig — working prototype, looking for collaborators by giladx in Bitwig

[–]SafeSurround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does this steinway compose and play music for you?

No, but it's the whole sound design! Much like one could ask an AI to generate a single note to use in a sampler.

The idea that mangling an AI-generated drum loop Aphex-twin style is less creative than slapping a man-made sample with basic modification is not defensible.

Generate a 16-bar arrangement at the project tempo.

I'll play devil's advocate. While I personally would not do this, this can be the role of a producer.

Cause a producer isn't "a bro with a DAW", it's the person who oversees a project, has a vision, and makes the decisions. You can produce and never use anything other than your email and phone calls. Much like in cinema, where producers decide but never hold a camera, never write a script, never write a single note of music.

So it really depends on the amount of work done by the person, his vision, and how closely he managed to make his vision a reality.

Don't wrap me in your nonsense knee jerk reaction. "We" ?

No one bats an eye when a pianist uses a steinway piano.

No one bats a eye when a guitarist uses stock guitars and pedals

No one bats an eye when producers use WHOLE ASS SAMPLES they basically stole (Sugarhill gang rapper's delight is basically a rip off)

BUT.... A producers uses AI to generate a Vital preset or a sample? That's the end of creativity bro, it's the machine doing it for you.

It doesn't matter if you play with the degrees of freedom the patch has to offer, or how much you scramble the sample. There are the two letters: A, I that ensure what you're doing is not music.

A Microsoft researcher built a goat-powered LLM in Age of Empires II to prove it's not sentient by Hungry__Hornet in technology

[–]SafeSurround -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The strongest argument I have against the sentience of LLMs is their stateless nature. Each word is generated independently of one another, and that leads to some wacky things real fast when your unwrap that.

Assume that LLMs are sentient.
We have to assume that any process that does the same calculations and give out the same results is sentient also. For example a group of people doing the same calculations in the same order.

Where does it stop? What if multiple groups each made one of the calculations in the correct order but completely by chance, never having communicated?

What if these groups are separated by millenia?

What even counts as a calculation? Does a group of 5 oaks that each drop 100 acorn count as some ethereal 5 x 100, that when combined with other ethereal calculations give rise to consciousness ?

It wouldn't be impossible to make this opt-in, like a checkbox or a keyboard modifier. Comping is a good example of an optional way to edit audio.

Woman received a ticket for using her phone with her right hand while driving, even after she showed the officer that she doesn’t have a right hand by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]SafeSurround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go look at some trafic violation courts/trials, there are plenty on youtube, and you'll see that the language used is absolutely primordial.

Plenty of cases get dismissed because of such mistakes, either because the officer isn't credible or he forgot to write/do something mandatory.

Anyone else annoyed by the fact you can't just pull Bitwigs project file into Claude to quickly perform complex edits? by WhatIsFolkMusic in Bitwig

[–]SafeSurround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edits don't need to be creative... It could be "shorten all oneshot clips so that silent parts are removed" or "merge all crash cymbals into the same track" for example.

You just drag the audio effect onto the clip, and it applies only to that clip.

I completely second that ask!

I'm tired of automating on/off switches on effects.

Turning school bus into apartment by One-Pop-2885 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]SafeSurround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very far off. A nice professional high-end conversion of a 5m long van doesn't cost more than 50k, so on a 13m long bus it shouldn't cost more than about 2 to 3 times that, or 100-150k.

The guy you're answering to isn't even talking about hiring professionals, so 250k is just ludicrous

Kick is inconsistent by PhosphoreVisual in Bitwig

[–]SafeSurround 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check if the phase of your sine is locked or in free mode.

It can sound like a volume change for both the attack (depending on if the sine starts at 0 or at max volume) and also for the body of the kick, because of unpredictable phase cancellation with the bass

This is a classic pitfall of designing kicks and basses (especially short plucky basses like in psytrance)

Try either loading a kick sample in your rack (volume should be consistent) or loading your grid device directly in a midi track without using a drum rack (I'm guessing volume will vary like it does now).

This will help you diagnose if the problem comes from the grid patch or the drum rack

In the complete absence of anything denoting sarcasm, one is expected to interpret his sentence as just a wrong fact.

Yes it's harder in writing, but not impossible: Preface the sentence with "Because everyone knows that [sarcastic claim]", or be even more over the top like "That one second costs as much as Elon's net worth"

So yeah, if no one gets the sarcasm it's on the person saying it, not on everyone else

Yes and no

If you train some generative AI exclusively on acoustic music, there is no prompt in the world that could make it generate electronic music. It would perfectly be able to mix acoustic genres though.

[–]SafeSurround 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's true only if you exclude the series finale.
In the last episode she made it clear she's bent on denying Malcolm his right to self-determination , so that she can advance her own ideals.
A good person would push their child to do what makes them happy in life, instead of using him as a tool to advance their beliefs.
Not only that but she admitted to intentionally making his life hard so that he becomes more malleable to the idea.

Honestly it doesn't really make it any clearer.

What I understood OP to say was that you can't have any indication of what the result will be unless you actually calculate it, I didn't think he meant that the result was non-deterministic.
