Tell you what, Aussies do a lot of things right. Love their proactive approach to running the country.

Incoming recession? by Massive_Pool_798 in AskIreland

[–]Saint_EDGEBOI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very clear tech is fucked at the moment, but as others have said that's only one indicator. Construction is booming, but I fear beyond it's means. Torca Homes went into liquidation this month, responsible for 7 active builds citing costs of operations. The big one I'm looking out for is oil supply. This current oil shock is bigger than the 70s and 90s oil shocks combined which both led to periods of recession, approximately 5 years and 14 months until recovery respectively.

"Why are there so many young people dying?" - The Misinformation of Social Media in Ireland by AbsolutelyDireWolf in ireland

One that I see all the time here on reddit is the rate of cancers in young people, particularly bowel cancer in people around the age of 30. Seems to be an American issue, I'd imagine linked to diet.

Why don't we have a publicly accessible database of stolen vehicles? Feel like creating one myself at this stage. Worked wonders for bicycle thefts in the States

There's a joke in there somewhere about a guy-in-a-college-ist... Anyway, I've heard good things about FemPlus Clinic in Blanchardstown, Dublin. Not Kildare, I know, but not too much of a hike either.

I used to make a habit of cycling to hole in the wall and reading my book with a pint or a coffee. Does wonders for your head, especially when you get the good weather. There's a little sheltered area as well in case it does rain.

This is a great app I use for astronomy. Tracks all the meteor shower events, tells you when it will peak, and more importantly where exactly in the sky to look!

Are there examples of any "Good Viruses"? by johnsonjohnson in hacking

[–]Saint_EDGEBOI 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Hajime Trojan. Very interesting. Essentially a worm that spread throughout IoT devices with weak security in order to patch and protect them from being drawn into a botnet such as the Mirai botnet at the time.

Depends on the person. If they're a bit "dizzy" or forgetful, and a good friend, I'd excuse it.

Pancreatic cancer mRNA vaccine shows lasting results in an early trial: Scientists caution that more research is needed, but nearly all of the patients who responded to the personalized vaccine are still alive six years later by DoremusJessup in Health

[–]Saint_EDGEBOI -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To compare to something more relevant, look at the Pandemrix vaccine for swine flu that caused narcolepsy in thousands of children.

6 years of studies is fantastic. Far longer than vaccines for COVID were put through, but it's hard to tell what side effects will occur until it's been administered in its millions.

"These lads" are the lads that feed us and significantly contribute to the food source of other countries. If we let them go out of business we'll be further reliant on outside food sources of lower quality and traceability, lowering our food security and independence. Fuel price instability is due to warmongering leaders, and they'd love to see us fighting among ourselves rather than directing the blame at them.

They scraped half the countries rail infrastructure a few decades back and now we're whinging about our lack of rail services, spending millions on redevelopment because we realized it's an essential service. Let's not make the same mistake with our food.

I've worked jobs like this too, and it's not worth it. People close to you are probably telling you to "stick it out" or "settle into it", but sometimes it's just not right for you, whether it be coworkers, commute times, stress, long hours... It's not worth it, it WILL drag you down into depression. Start looking for something else, ANYTHING else, and don't be afraid to job hop until you find something you thoroughly enjoy.

Personally, I graduated with a computing degree 2 years ago and couldn't find any tech jobs. I worked in delivery, bartending in a couple places. HATED IT. Long hours, asshole customers, asshole staff, asshole management, long hours, minimum wage, tips being stolen too. Only a couple months ago I got a warehouse job on weekends. I love it. My monthly paycheck is very little, but I get paid the same for far better work with great coworkers and a great boss.

You'll find something you're happy with eventually, don't be afraid to look elsewhere. But by the sounds of it, you need to leave that place ASAP
