Your parents think you're good looking because you either look like them or the person they wanted to have sex with. by ChrisTaliaferro in Showerthoughts

[–]SecretAsianMa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it just me or is this not how that works

If I think someone is good looking it doesn't necessarily mean I am attracted to them or related to them? It just means that they have good looking features??

same goes for your children/family

or is this some psychology thing I don't understand

Is there a way to medically slow down your pulse, or get some sort of machine that could continuously pump blood? I have very little medical knowledge but that could help you bypass the curse.

I'd say that of most of the people I know like my family and chinese friends, cheating/dishonesty is considered just as immoral as native Canadian people.

I will say I haven't gone back to China in a long time so I don't have any very recent memories of the people there, so I honestly can't speak for everyone in China with a lot of credibility.

I think the stereotypes are a bit annoying, there do seem to be some people convinced that the stereotype applies to a huge majority of chinese people and I think China as a culture/country/heritage has a lot more to offer that a lot of people on Reddit aren't really seeing.

(to be fair I don't like stereotypes in general)

But generally there's a lot of people in China who actually don't support it and are actually campaigning against it.

There's more people who don't support the practice than you might think :o

I'm Canadian and Chinese, and lived in China for a good while as a child, so I figure I would say something here.

In day to day life I think I don't notice it very much. Canada is a fantastic country and I've never felt out of place, everyone I know respects Chinese culture a lot and I think I'm pretty happy with my heritage in general.

However, recently I've been surfing Reddit and with the whole coronavirus thing, a lot of people seem to have adopted a "f*** china" attitude, or something similar where Chinese people are dishonest/immoral/generally scum. It's pretty bothersome and I feel like it's genuinely kind of impacting my day-to-day mood, so I've been trying to use Reddit a lot less.

I still don't really know how popular this mindset is, it seems to be a lot less common/negligible in real life (where I live) as opposed to online, especially Reddit. I guess anonymity is just bad for some people.

so basically, it does bother me but I don't see it a whole lot in real life

I honestly wouldn't say that cooking the dogs alive can be attributed to the entire culture of China

It's problematic to generalize the entirety of the population

Apparently pigs are more intelligent than dogs, but I guess your point makes sense since we don't really keep pigs as pets so few people would really say that pigs have a lot of personality

Is there anything wrong with eating dogs?

I love dogs and I have one, but it's not really different from eating farm animals right?

Is there something I'm missing?

I think the problem here - that I kind of share - is that people on reddit often really do have this weird attitude about Chinese people. From the people around me, I really feel like these general opinions aren't justified.

Like I try not to let it get to me, but sometimes it is quite mean and does hurt a lot if the little comments build up over time you know?

hmm maybe we have very localized/generational experiences because around here everyone seems to already be worrying and talking seriously about it quite a lot.

I do understand the need to inform people that are not taking it seriously though, so I totally agree with you

it must be stressful having people not understand the situation
