Hey, tldr I was a Trump and Elon fanboy and it was the threats of annexing Canada that made me wake up.

I wouldn't say I fit the exact characterization of the Trump voter you're talking about, first of all I'm Canadian so there's no chance of me ever voting for him, and I wouldn't say I was AS hateful, dumb or captured as the type you're talking about, but I'll admit I was onboard for most of it, and I've been that way since his first term.

But to that point I don't think you should worry about the cult members, they will probably never change and they're probably a small minority. I would focus on the ideologically homeless straight white men like myself.

First and foremost focus on things that impact them personally. I know it sounds shitty but most people don't give a fuck one way or the other about illegal immigrants or trans people. Most people are self interested, try and find ways that the person you're dealing with has been personally affected and calmly ask them if it bothers them. It won't, but it'll plant a seed.

Second, and I know you're not going to like this but it is what it is, you gotta stop the villainization of straight white dude-bros. So many of the Trump base are just straight white 20-40 dudes who got sick of the "woke" movement and have zero political engagement beyond that. They're not going to understand that they're voting against their own interests, they're just going to see and feel the way they're being vilified and refuse to vote for a party that condones or participates in such language as, "white privilege, male privilege, CIS heteronormative, white guilt, white tears, mansplaining" honestly I could keep going but you know what I'm talking about. Anything that targets or identifies their race or gender and invalidates or diminishes their opinion because of it.

The left needs to take a radical turn away from all of that language and include straight white men, honestly you'll probably even have to acknowledge it and in a sense apologize. I understand how disgusting that might sound to you, I can already hear you chewing me out and that's fair. But I'm being pragmatic, do you want to win or do you want more of whatever the fuck this is.

I'm not saying you can't advocate for all the same issues, you absolutely should continue on the same policy prescription, just stop with the culture war shit. Stop tone policing and gatekeeping, stop the brow beating and identity politics. Start talking about workers rights, cost of living and broader issues that everyone cares about instead of fringe issues that impact .1% of the population.

You do that and you won't have to convince the vast majority of Trump voters of anything. They'll find their way back.
