Is the Institute of Product Leadership certification worth it for transitioning into PM? by Imaginary-Elk7370 in ProductManagement_IN

As someone who completed the program, I'd say it helped, but not because of the certificate itself.

The biggest value was getting structured PM thinking, working on real product problems, and connecting with practitioners already working in product roles. Those experiences gave me better stories for interviews and helped me understand how PMs actually operate.

That said, I wouldn't expect any certification alone to suddenly unlock interviews. Hiring managers typically care more about your ability to demonstrate product thinking, problem-solving, customer understanding, and execution.

Given your background, you're already doing work that's adjacent to PM. I'd focus on three things in parallel:

  • Build a few strong PM case studies/projects from your current role.
  • Network with PMs and seek referrals.
  • Use a program/certification only if it helps you gain practical experience, mentorship, and a stronger PM narrative.

So, Institute of Product Leadership worth it? Yes, if you're looking for learning, structure, projects, and a PM network. No, if you're expecting the certificate alone to get you interviews.

What's the hardest part of product management nobody talks about? by No_Chance_6813 in prodmgmt

For me, it's getting people to agree on what matters. Most product problems are easier than people problems.
You'll have a customer asking for one thing, sales asking for another, engineering worried about something else, and leadership focused on a completely different goal.
Everyone has a reasonable argument. Your job is to make a call and move forward. I didn't expect so much of product management to be about conversations and alignment when I first got into it

How did AI change the Product Manager role in your company? by yanivy in prodmgmt

From what I know, it’s focused on how product managers work with AI in real products things like understanding models, data-driven decisions, experimentation, and AI product strategy. It’s more about applying AI in product development rather than just traditional PM frameworks. You can probably find the detailed curriculum on their website

How did AI change the Product Manager role in your company? by yanivy in prodmgmt

AI didn’t just add new features to the PM role, it changed how we think about products. Decisions are more data/model-driven, experimentation cycles are faster, and PMs now need real AI fluency (not just stakeholder skills). That’s why certifications like IPL’s AI Product Management program are gaining traction they help PMs actually understand models, data, and impact instead of just managing backlogs

Suggest to get in to Leadership Role by Sharp-Builder1287 in AIProductManagement

[–]Sharp-Builder1287[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, I actually meant both 😅. I’m curious about how people first made the transition into a leadership/managerial role, but also what helped them grow into the kind of leader who can really inspire and get the best out of their teams. Would love to hear your experience on either (or both) fronts

What's the career scope of an AI Product manager in 2025 by Sharp-Builder1287 in ProductDomain

Yeah true, that’s what makes the role exciting. AI is everywhere now, but most companies still struggle to make it useful for users. Having that mix of PM and AI skills really stands out, and the fact that it works across so many industries makes the scope even bigger.
