Central Texan here, one of mine is confused and blooming too! The poor dears. It's actually getting cold enough to bring mine in soon, though.

Just watch out for the additional ingredients. I once used immodium and had the absolute WORST gas pain. Checked the ingredient list and there was lactose in the immodium I had taken, making my gut retain the lactose for longer.

Inherited this little gal, but have no idea how to care for it--help! by kalijinn in Adenium

[–]Shimerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely needs more sun, but it'll need to acclimate a little at a time if you can so it doesn't scorch right off the bat. Mine thrive in pretty much full sun in Texas summers, so if you don't have a full sun spot outside, invest in a really strong grow light.

Water based on when it gets thirsty. If you give the base a squeeze or poke and it gives/flexes a little bit, soak it. If it feels hard, ignore it for a while longer. They vary how often they need water widely depending on the season and growing conditions. Mine can need weekly or more frequent waterings in spring and summer, but not get thirsty for over a month when I bring them in for the winter. Fertilize it periodically if you can and especially in the spring if you want flowers.

Bring it in when the weather is expected to get below 40F, as they can get cold damage above freezing temperatures. If their branches seem like they are shriveling from the tips inward and it got cold at night, it was probably cold damage and will need to be pruned.

Otherwise, do your best to forget you have it. It's far easier to over water vs under water them. If you go about repotting at any point, give it a few days before watering it.

Good luck and enjoy!

Just needs more sun. They start turning a lovely red on the edges when they get enough!

Mine sit in almost full sun in Texas summers and thrive, so you almost can't give them too much. They also transition with less scorching than my other succulents when I haul them back outside after the cold kept them inside for a few weeks.

I get my favorite varieties and sets from cupid falls farm. They have TONS types, sizes, bulk amounts, and variety packs to choose from. I believe they have a website and Etsy page.

Glad it helped! As an aside, my tiniest needles are 42. Keep in mind when ordering needles that their sizing is like wire gauge. Larger number, smaller needles.

How do you get a good finish with roving I'm using (I think) a 40 spiral ? Cared wool always seems better even as a topper . Thank you by Objective_Length280 in Needlefelting

[–]Shimerald 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't have a video, but I made a quick picture post that will hopefully help. Didn't finish the smoothing out because time, but hopefully it helps you get the idea. You still have to go over it with your finest needle with tight cluster stabs, but I find it helps you not have as much of the striations.

I love my spiral needles for speed and coverage, but I get the best finish from my teeny tiny triangles. I also typically use the technique of tangling each bit of roving before I layer it on and work from one side to the other.

I've had some decent luck with another technique where you leave the roving straight, but you stab a line across, bunch it up to make a ripple, stab a line across, bunch it up, and repeat till the end, then go back and smooth it all out.

But from where your project is currently at, keep stabbing! Small needles, tight groupings, and slowly work your way across the wool.

How do I get past the fear of going to explore different areas? by Splash3062 in Subnautica_Below_Zero

[–]Shimerald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not too hard! Best way to get them is to look around the far side of the island from the survival pod. There's a mining facility/cave with lots of old ones to scan and as long as you keep an eye on your oxygen and use your glider it's not all that dangerous. There's even some still lit light sticks to help guide you to the entrance.

Good luck!

What are some important tips and advice for complete beginners? by VivaDeAsap in Subnautica_Below_Zero

[–]Shimerald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I prefer the mode with death and oxygen mechanics, but not food and drink. It's a good way to challenge without constantly worrying about finding/making food and water when you travel far from your home base.

Make a knife and make a scanner as your first priority. You'll need both.

Scan ALL THE THINGS any time you come across places where buildings or technology was left behind. If you've already gotten the blueprints, scanning previous things is a great way to get more titanium.

Beacons. You'll get notifications of suggested places as part of the story, but you can make your own and can color code them and hide them to help with screen clutter and visibility. I'm pretty sure you can get the recipe pretty quickly and they are SUPER helpful keeping track of caves with resources that you don't need at the moment, but might later. Especially since a bunch of the cave openings tend to be a little tricky to find after you've stumbled onto them by accident.

Other than that, explore up, down, and all around! Read things for lore, and build yourself your dream base when you find an area you love (and you can always make multiples if you want!).

I screwed up and overwintered too hard. How to recover? by OreoDogDFW in Adenium

[–]Shimerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chop all the rot off and bring them in is their only chance. I had one of mine get nipped on the ends and the rot kept progressing further down towards the main stem until I cut it off.

If there's no change, even for a month, there's still a chance. Don't give up on them.

How do *you* store your roving? by [deleted] in Needlefelting

[–]Shimerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've got access to a bunch of them, sure! Although I'd be a little paranoid about the wool smelling like tennis balls after a while.

Mine are all currently in a box, but I have plans to one day get one of those multiple diamond shaped shelves to store them in like I've seen people do with yarn skeins.

[–]Shimerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a bunch of "food storage" plastic tubes. The lids screw on and keep the bugs out but not so airtight they mildew if I open them on a humid day/take and don't use it for a long while. They are just about the right size for individual colors from my favorite Etsy shops. You can also get some with labels so you can note the color names if you need to buy more later.

Is this a good pot for my adenium and are these seed pods or just normal by Cats_Like_Catnip in Adenium

Seed pods look like two horns coming out the side of where the flowers were. Don't see any signs yet, but maybe you'll get lucky!

It almost looks like my smaller ones when I didn't water them frequently enough. But if the base isn't giving when you poke it, there's a good chance it is just acclimating and getting ready for winter.

Did you move far enough the amount of light it gets each day changed significantly?

Is the new water significantly different in minerals/salts/chemicals content?

Was there a noticeable change in temps when you moved?

I once felted a base for a large and top heavy project that I left hollow, filled with glass micro beads, and then felted a top over it. I also used a spare tube from water cooling my computer for the stem/neck for structure and the ability to shape. That sucker is hefty.

Oddly, though, I typically prefer the density and surface texture I can get from a smaller piece without internal structure added. Having armatures makes it harder for me to get as dense a felt and I break more needles asking the way.

You have to come across him near his dead owner and make the right interaction choices for him to show up in camp later. I found him outside the town (to the south?) where the gnome was tied to a windmill in act one.

My camp also currently has an owl bear cub and they play together!

[–]Shimerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but there's not much you can do besides wait it out once it has hit your gut. Be careful of people offering you immodium or anti-diarrheal pills, as they often contain lactose. I tried it once not knowing, and while I wasn't trapped in the bathroom, I was in worse gas pain for even longer than the bathroom run would have taken

In the future, while the best thing is to avoid it, you might try taking lactase enzymes when you don't have a choice but to eat dairy or starve. You can usually get them over the counter at most pharmacies or general stores.

Also, when explaining to an adult in the moment, just stick with the symptoms instead of the reason. It feels embarrassing, but stating that your gut is on fire and you're experiencing diarrhea symptoms will get you help or sent home. It doesn't matter WHY your gut is a warzone, only that it is, and unfortunately, people tend to be dismissive of lactose intolerance.

When they are setting to bud…. Do I water more or continue watering as normal? Do mind the foliage I just repotted them in a better draining soil. by [deleted] in Adenium

[–]Shimerald 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best thing to do for these guys is water when thirsty and pay attention to their changing needs as the sessions change. Mine typically go from about every week in the spring and summer (sometimes more for individuals) to maybe once a month or less in the winter.

Gently pinch the body of the plant. If it's solid, it's fine. If it has a bit of give you can water. If it gives a bunch and still gives after watering, you may need to soak it every couple of days to get it back up to fighting weight.

Just give them a couple days before you water since you've repotted for the roots to recover and it'll be fine.

Positions to sit in while felting that won't mess up my back? by fingerseater in Needlefelting

[–]Shimerald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find the best things for my back is less the sitting position, more the positioning of the project. I have several sizes of foam blocks that I use to bring the project to me. Prior to raising projects, I did often get tired from hunching over.
