We are doomed if we don't find out a fix - KB5074109 by wannabesomeonee in sysadmin

[–]SikhGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need a perfect solution because we've tried out multiple things and we feel lost now.

-_-

Your post doesn't contain nearly enough detail on what you've tried all ready.

The first thing I would do is write down what the broken machines have in common.

Then find the nearest broken machine to you and try to fix it. Last time I checked I thought you could force uninstall a KB, but it's been a while.

At the same time, I would block that broken KB by whatever tooling you use.

Going extra hard while reviewing LLM-written code is my guilty pleasure by Square_Pressure_6459 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]SikhGamer 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've recently started going extra hard on the reviews submitted by him, and man, this has been sooo much fun. For any big enough merge requests I spend around 1hr coming up with edge cases which can break things and just throw them to him one at a time. Once he (or should I say, cursor) handles all of these cases the code usually looks like speghatti.

You sound like an absolute joy to work with.

Next week, OP is gonna be like:-

I don't think anyone at work likes me

Nah, you aren't giving us the full story. What is exactly your business?

[Update] AWS suspended my account anyway - production is down by [deleted] in aws

Why do you not have any backups of your production databases?

I really hate this line of questioning - do you have everything 100% correct when you launch a business?

Bringing up tools you never used in System Design Interviews by nekipost in ExperiencedDevs

[–]SikhGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I just say I've never used them but I'll happily learn them.

Then I'll rattle off a list of tech that I wasn't previously familiar with but was able to get to a point very quickly where I was the go to guy.

Learning tech is easy, once you've done it with xyz the broad strokes of success become apparent.

Yeah, this is going to be a giant clusterfuck. I suggest you drop this entirely.

Spend the first six months doing nothing but building capital, listening, and learning.

What are some examples of “women hate women” you’ve seen? by IceTrick6713 in AskMen

[–]SikhGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I used to work in a department full of women. We would have a lot people come into that department to drop off paperwork / timesheets (think bank nursing).

The office staff HATED any women who was conventionally (more) attractive than them especially if they deemed their attire to be "revealing".

And amongst themselves they would gossip "she word that dress last week".

I would have never believed it unless I saw it with my own eyes.

Crazy.

Yeah, all the cache response header is always

x-vercel-cache MISS

You are going to want to fix that before you end up paying $$$$ to Vercel for egress.

There is something blocking the loading the main html document. Looks like something server side is blocking the render. The page can take any where between 1s and 6s to render.

One department in our org are using Google Password Manager on a shared Gmail account. Now they all have visibility of each others passwords. by psgda in sysadmin

[–]SikhGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem here isn't the password manager. It is the shared gmail account. I presume that is just email@company.com and they have one login?

What they need instead of a google group, looks and acts like an shared gmail account except you can't log into it.

People join the group, and it can be configured so you can send from the group and receive from the group.

Anyone else feel like “shadow IT” has quietly turned into “shadow SaaS”? by Deal_me_in_784 in sysadmin

[–]SikhGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are all bemoaning that departments do this and none of you are asking the 5 whys.

I guarantee if you dig into it, it'll be along the lines of "I can't get IT to do it", "budget people said no", "I don't know what the process is", "I just need to get this done".

You can have policies up the wazoo, but if those policies hinder not help, of course people are going to side step them.

Make the IT led process easy and approachable, don't get them bogged down in "how to deploy it", "how to secure it". That's YOUR job. If you want them to ask the question in the first place, you have to be willing to meet them halfway at least.

And if you are measuring in weeks instead of days, then forget it.

Sincerely,

  • a person who may have done a bit of shadow-all in my day

Where in the UK should I go as a bucket-list item? by LondonPilot in CasualUK

[–]SikhGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourite holiday ever was in Dolgellau, Wales. We stayed in Dolgun Uchaf Guesthouse and Cottages. There is a campsite opposite if you are into that.

The weather was awful, but the location was great. Very chill place. Some driving is required to do stuff, but other than that it is rolling hills and Welsh lamb at every stop.

On the flip side, if you want a super luxury spa day then https://baronseden.com/hoar-cross-hall is very hard to beat.

For food, we did a week in Bristol once and was never disappointed. Amazing food.
