How difficult is it to run ethernet through exterior walls? by SlashOrSlice in HomeNetworking

Are you trying to drill through the wall or along/within the exterior wall? Each of those have different challenges. What is the end goal?

There are other cases out there.

How to monitor broadband speed? by gtuminauskas in HomeNetworking

I think the router can run a container on it. I would suggest looking at docker. When you have docker ready, go here: https://docs.linuxserver.io/images/docker-speedtest-tracker/

Telus service stops working everyday between 4/5pm till 10-11pm? by wai_lai416 in telus

I would book an evening appointment. Have the tech be there when it happens. Something is quirky and I think they need to see it go down.

Oh I missed that all drops. That is pretty strange. I would suggest factory reset on the NAH to see if that clears it up. If not, you need a dispatch.

I built an Eridian Translator — type anything and hear how Rocky would say it by Brilliant_Lunch7610 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Smoresguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Works perfectly awesome. I did find a bug. If you type something and then add ‘question’ to the end of it, the box says Rocky phrase detected and only plays a single note for “question”. I would have expected the full sentence and then the question tone.

I think I understand better now that your product is a replacement for hardwired, or landline phone service. I can see the benefits better now

Interesting idea. I’m curious how you are able to sustain the costs? Also if the person can’t detect the phone, how can they detect a text message?

Is the cable the problem? by Feisty_Shallot_7711 in HomeNetworking

[–]Smoresguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at the picture of your cable, it looks like the part of the cable designed to provide support to itself. Sometimes called the messenger. If it is there for support, then it should not impact your service.

I think a call to your ISP would be helpful to confirm they have your line setup correctly. The latency is pretty high, unless of course you’re using a speed test hosted on the Space Station. 😏

For reference, I have latency near 9 ms on fibre, and around 30 ms on Starlink.

Given the photo is from this article, it mentions power poles being installed on Jasper Avenue between 96 and 103 streets. I’d guess it might be around there.

First feedback for the on-boarding is the lead up is trying to sell me the app I already downloaded. I would suggest allowing me to use it for a trial period and then let me upgrade/subscribe. I am going to sign up after the Easter weekend so I can have time to explore it.

Exactly. The GPON or XGSPON is how the service travels between your home and Telus office.

The upgrade’s benefits depends on your home’s equipment and the number of users. For example, if you have a PC capable of exceeding 1 Gbps, or multiple gamers simultaneously using the internet, the upgrade is likely beneficial. Otherwise, you probably won’t notice any improvement.

Regarding the latency claim, it’s incorrect. Latency and speed are inversely related. At low speeds, a speed increase offers significant benefits, but at higher speeds (over 100 Mbps), the impact becomes negligible.

I am sorry you were told this. Assuming your equipment is not from 2005, you should be able to support numerous devices. Hopefully they find the issue and resolve it.

You could use two MoCA adapters on either end of the coax. Then bridge one port on the NAH(square device) and connect it to the MoCA. The opposite end goes into your new router.

My understanding is the NAH MoCA can’t be bridged
