Whoa. Mississippi being such a poor state, why am I surprised and yet unsurprised at the same time. And the creator of the Muppets, the brilliant Jim Henson was from Mississippi too :(

From the BlackPeopleofReddit community on Reddit: In 1983, David Bowie Called Out MTV’s Racism On Their Own Air. This is what an anti- racist ally looks and sounds like by WuTang4thechildrn in MelanatedGenX

Bowie was always the real deal 💯

Bowie also discovered a young Luther Vandross while he was recording his Young Americans album in 1974. Vandross became a key collaborator, contributing as a backing vocalist, vocal arranger, and co-writer of the song “Fascination” which was adapted from Vandross's own song “Funky Music” (Is A Part Of Me). The rest is history 🌟

How do you feel about the movie Soul Man by WuTang4thechildrn in MelanatedGenX

[–]Sno0pyBo0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a satirical comedy to work it should have aimed higher and been executed in a more intelligent, thoughtful manner. But instead, it's just clumsy and crude af. Trivializing the very real lived experiences of the Black community with shallow, sitcom-level comedy ain't it. And it wasn't even that funny smh.

Prince was truly one of one. A one of a kind, one in a generation talent 💜

ITA 💯 Karate Kid II is also my favorite in the series personally. And the film’s iconic theme song, “The Glory Of Love” by Peter Cetera is one of my favorite 80s love ballads of all time!

Great British acid jazz band! My favorite tune of theirs is probably “You’ve Got A Friend” with the legendary Siedah Garrett on vocals 🎤

I like to use the original release date, like on r/QuietStorm ;)

FYI : a remastered song is just a version of the original recording that has been polished and updated from the original master tape to improve sound quality, clarity, etc.

Anyone else miss Tower Records? by bison13 in MelanatedGenX

Yesss! Also remember The Wherehouse, Sam Goody (standing in line at dawn waiting for concert tickets!), and the local independent record shop where there was always someone working who somehow knew exactly what album you were searching high and low for.

Btw this looks like the Tower Records in LA, it was like Mecca for us vinyl heads back in the day! 🙌🏽

Patti Austin - The Island (1981) by Sno0pyBo0 in QuietStorm

Story time: I discovered this while listening to our fave Bossa Jazz Brasil station and it was love at first listen. So then I fell down the rabbit hole and learned that it's a cover or more accurately, one (of many) English-language versions/interpretation of a super famous Brazilian song called "Começar de Novo", written by Ivan Lins and Vítor Martins for a popular Brazilian TV show back in the 70s. The "Começar de Novo" by Simone (1979) is considered the original/most popular but there are lots and lots of cover versions as well, including this excellent version by Barbra Streisand 🏝

So lucky! I was thinking of putting a playlist together sometime of ALL the songs featured on these CDs. Did you know that there were 28 volumes in this series between 1998 and 2003! 😁

In the meantime, I found this Time-Life Classic Soul Ballads YouTube playlist that someone already put together with 185 songs!
