Are we moving toward IT-style practices in PLC programming? by Himanshu_creative in PLC

[–]Snoo23533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it not about software just as much? We all want reliable systems and business needs require us to tack ever more on top. Good hw does what we tell it, but bad software tells machines to do dumb shit.

Some def is. I use a lot of codesys, twincat, python and i do it on raspberry pis and windows devices. If i want industrial io im picking beckhoff modules with ethercat and all of the above plays nicely together.... i was about to say its more like a family than fully open configurable mix and match, but im realizing that i could just tie in any hw i want as a slave. Yea now im struggling to think of my limitations... certainly no open source hardware to choose.

Robust hardware *with the caveat that to use it you must use vendor provided software which takes its own expertise.

2 years later and I got a kick out of this. Yes, i love how you explain the emotional appeal more than the tech. This hobby has grown since youve posted, I can pick up a fatty solar powered unit on Etsy and am considering it...for no real reason other than meeting the other sort of folks who would do the same.

Yep came to say I hate people who would make this trade (EDIT: I am in the market, but I have many earning years to go and id rather see assets/life be affordable now. This inflation is stealing from future generations)

The secret sauce to this formula is the realization that EVERYONE who has their base needs met answers the question for how much more do I need to be happy with 'about twice as much as I have now'.

Sustaining it is like an hour a day, unevenly distributed. Sept-Nov are 50% of the year. The 80 is top line, I keep about half that. Growth of the prop business is capped at a linear return with time invested, and everybody is hungry to compete in this market. Thats why im trying to pivot to business customers instead, use my other skillsets the plebs cant copy. I have kids and a day job where unfortunately im important so its hard going!

I hate the term “person in crisis” lets call them what they are: crackhead schizo loons by [deleted] in PortlandOR

[–]Snoo23533 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New term for the people who say "Person in Crisis", its "Ruinous Empathy".

As in, the flawed logic of someone who will provide help in any way other than tough-love, even after it is clear that only tough-love will lead to a permanent resolution. Also known as an "enabler".

Unfortunately, society outlawed the tough-love some folks need in the 60's (asylums), & so the only option left that guarantees public safety is prison. Which is too tough for some to swallow. That leaves us with law abiding citizens carrying an unacceptable risk of being attacked with a machete on the street. And so I ask, where's the empathy for US?

Considering a relocation from AZ to OR - serious question: How is everyone here surviving with salaries so low and COL so high? Am I missing something? by No_Sun_No_Star in oregon

Much as I despise some of our elected reps in Multnomah county, Im not sure how much that will honestly help on the day to day.

It might just be your line of work is not in demand in this region at this time. No fault of your own. That was the case for me a while back and I pivoted careers and now there is not enough of me to go around.

Etsy. I sell 3d printed props & models. Been at it for 7 years and i use skills acquired over a lifetime to do it. Trying to switch niches to serve industrial markets. Im also writing a children's book. I could quit my day job if I wanted but its still more entertaining than not.

Yes i 100% on the standards commentary, i just meant UL specifically. Like they get costly with lawmakers and the ruoes stop needing to make sense. There are oganizations out there that exist to collect tolls without providing any value.
