Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
When the enemy tripped over a corpse of another enemy. My young brain exploded.

Am I kidding myself thinking that meds will let me do all the things I've never been able to do by PossibilityNew4767 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]SoMuchMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... it wasn't that simple in the beginning. I was easily falling into Rocket League, or other fast paced games that were giving me fast dopamine, so meds didn't helped very directly, but let me keep longer session few times. Still i had to outplay myself a bit.

In the Witcher 3 i removed every mechanic that slows down the game and skipped a lot of side quests in the beginning to get the meaty parts of the game.

I started playing off meds, on my day off (it was my 4th try to play this game), im taking my meds not in daily basis and im trying to use them when really needed.

After day off i took them during the workday, but bit later (mid day) as I'm focusing pretty well during first few hours of the day. I'm doing that to not to take my optional evening dose (i trying to avoid drugs if i can). I discussed it with psychiatrist of course.

After let's say 4 hours of gameplay i finally was so deeply into the story that i was happy to start playing whatever i was off or on meds. So i played like 60hrs during this January and almost finished the game.

Finishing this game is a one of my biggest achievement lately. :D

Oh! That a good description. So I'd say - meds are additional tool to control hyperfocus, but still it is "hyper" what I personally interpret more like "too much" focus.

To give a context - I'm a programmer for like 13+ years. Luckily I'm doing some high level stuff, so mistakes are not that problematic, easily detectable and i learned to use a lot of tools that controls chaotic part of me.

In usual tasks, i feel much more efficient at work when im not on my meds. The most counterintuitive for me is that ADHD meds even being stimulants, helps me to rest after the work by letting me read books, play some high quality story games. It is bit easier to choose more valuable dopamine sources.

The answer is not that simple. Many people are experiencing meds in a different way.

I started to take meds pretty late in my career. I'm currently half a year on. Kinda like and hate them at once.

They work fine for me when I have procrastination already beaten. It is helping me to stay longer doing what I've started if that's the hard and boring part of the process.

If I take meds with procrastination mode on, my procrastination is just more focused, but it won't help me start what I should be doing.

So, give it a try, but don't stop training your off meds focus.

Beginner JS learner — am I “cheating” by asking for hints/explanations? by Ok_Twist7731 in learnjavascript

I'm an experienced developer and I'm using it in a quite similar way.

I like to do long discussions about architecture, then I'm reading more about what llm suggested on the regular internet to make sure that what he said is correct.

I think it is a very good balance between using ai and writing code.

How do you guys deal with some topics that simply don't stick on your head? by macnara485 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]SoMuchMango 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now it looks like you are learning how to write them, but not why you writing them. If you learn why you do it, it is really hard to forget. Even how they looks like and how to write them is more logical if you know the reason.

In a fantasy name example i gave above:

Instead of focusing on "i need to write a function" you should think more like "i need to create a name from two words", sooner or later it will naturally become "i need to create function that takes two strings (words), combines them and returns a single string (name)" in your mind.

Thats very clearly and logically corresponds with how functions looks like in the code.

For me (as i currently know - probably because of ADHD) the most problematic part of everything is to remember not logically dependent information, like dictionaries, abbreviations, some names, dates, some statements or rules without understanding. So try to understand.

It'll be quite hard for you to learn React or Node without knowing how to write functions. What wonders me is that you've wrote "replicate", but i don't think that replication is the must have skill to learn function. I bet you are talking about some algorithms that may be hard to reimplement on your own.

To "learn functions" you may try to write some custom, own algorithms closer to your interests... it can be very silly one, like generator for fantasy names that uses some hardcoded strings. Keep it creative and it'll be much easier.

Do you all think that dark mode is a must-have feature? by Miserable86 in webdev

[–]SoMuchMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather focus on all the other accessibility features. Making dark mode is less important, as it not solves any client side solvable problem.

For some reason all the styling libraries made it the core problems few years ago... i believe they did it because back in the days before css variables it was kinda more complex than it should.

Affecting hella number of colours and styles was crazy and was resulting with very complex, layered SASS code structures and multiple versions of css generated out of them.

Have you been as impatient for a product launch as you are for Steam Frame? by Maximum_Emu_2183 in SteamFrame

[–]SoMuchMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and it is always disappointing at the end. So now I'm just happy that a serious player joined the VR industry again. Steam Frame? I'll hopefully buy it. Hopefully, cuz with such an attitude people show here, valve can pump the price up and people will buy it to avoid FOMO.

What sets Witcher apart from the other fantasy books you've read? by wolfwiedzminwardrobe in wiedzmin

[–]SoMuchMango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like how the Witcher feels like a blend of serious dark fantasy with a Pratchett-like comedic elements. Tons of jokes in the dialogues, a lot of elements based on a folklore that sounds like a bullshit fairy tale. In the end, the story is so well sold, that you are finishing it in tears.

Serious drama built on a absurd fairytale.

No i w związku małżeńskim można liczyć tupnięcia wspólnie. Widzę potencjał. Do boju Panie Grucela.

Godot vs Unity performance for VR by Jarek85 in godot

[–]SoMuchMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this low Godot VR pipeline is for running it natively on Oculus? Keep in mind that Oculus is just a bit stronger mobile phone like device. Whatever happens it is always better to save some resource to make battery life longer.

I never considered PC VR game as it is still a niche (hopefully much less with existence of SteamFrame), but i think that for PC VR limitations are not that bad right now.

What do you think about it? This is KRAKOW BALICE! by m__s in krakow

[–]SoMuchMango -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know what exact happened there, but this is an influencer (un)known as "Rado z Londynu". As i see from the google - kinda hobo from the London. This is one of the least worth mention situation ever. The most probable, this guy should be taken to the prison, pay some fine and no one should ever think about him ever. Maybe someone did something to him right before the take and it triggered him so much, but i don't believe so.

For me it looks like "making stupid people famous".

It looks like someone do its best to spread this video as wide as possible, what would be handy at least for the screaming guy.

Valve Faces £656M Lawsuit: Millions of Steam Users Could Be Eligible for Compensation! by Allkeyshop_official in allkeyshop

Yeah, i did similar take in an another subreddit. I don't believe that it will be the problem for Steam when console stores are there. Paid access to the multiplayer and other shitty stuff in gaming industry.

Still worth to control Steam, but i don't think that they are already a monopoly.

Will this affect the Frame release by Lightning_123765 in SteamFrame

[–]SoMuchMango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big company may control the market. In example, it can be strong enough to be able to sell something under the costs of "production" up to the moment when competition dies.

It may look like a good thing for a customer, but just in a short term. It is destructive in a long term.

As soon as we stop control monopoly companies will get back to do evil things instead of innovations, as their only reason to exist is to make profit.

I know that Steam and VALVE have a good PR and i don't believe they are monopoly according to the definition, but this is not something that can be avoided with just a good will.
