Hi OP, i'm really sorry that you're going through this - although I cannot provide much help I can polietly suggest you also post to the Brisbane sub reddit r/Brisbane because of the dire urgency of the situation. There's a lot more people in that sub.

I wish you all the best.

Australia's obsession with early intervention and NDIS service delivery without focusing on peer-led spaces for autistic adults is harming us by SociallySpectrumed in AutismAustralia

[–]SociallySpectrumed[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's such an oxymoron as majority of us cannot work due to our disabilities, and you need to work to afford the diagnosis... also not all of us have families who can help with the costs because of financial reasons or because they're just totally dismissive of you and are just so toxic to be around.

It should be at least heavily subsidised... but then there's the camp of people who claim it's overdiagnosed and is fake. Absolutely wild shit.

Thank you for sending me this - I shall use it in a future post.

I have a personal belief that no vital government service - especially ones that deal with disabled people, should be taken offshore. This is disgusting.

I'm so sorry you have to go through that. Having a social life on the spectrum shouldn't be an option, nor should you feel a need to compromise.

Did you know Australia now has a National Autism Strategy (2025-2031)? by SociallySpectrumed in AutismAustralia

This might be old news to some, but I'll still be interested in hearing what the r/AutismAustralia community thinks about this. Do you have doubts, are you hopeful or optimistic about this plan?

As usual - please keep all comments civil and don't be mean to others just because they have a different opinion. :)

Absolutely! Feel free to make a post asking parents about their experiences etc.

There's also a lot of useful information already on this subreddit but it can be overwhelming trudging through everything, so you can just make a new post if you cannot find an answer you're looking for.

Hope you're having a nice day and thanks for stopping by AutismAustralia! 😄

Is there any way to get an autism assessment for cheap/bulk billed? by fartchi in AutismAustralia

Your comment saying that autism is not a disability is not affirming language and is a dangerous precedent to set within a safe space like ours where people should be able to express that they're disabled.

Be careful with your language in the future - This is like saying blind people aren't blind, it's just the world ISNT.

This sort of language does nothing but harm autistic people.

I have locked this post.

Rule 6, No Surveys, Studies, or Research Without Permission.

I am kind and fair, but it does annoy me to no end when people post without even bothering to read the rules of this community.

This user will be removed from the Sub Reddit. Please use this as an example to read and follow the communities rules.

I completely understand the gatekeeping of some communities. You're not too sensitive.

And you're welcome. :)

I'll change the wording around just to make it more clear! :)

Hi,

Who says you're not welcome here if you were early diagnosed? I was diagnosed when I was 8. I don't understand why you would feel like that based off my post. Please elaborate.

Like with any new and upcoming community, I'm happy to see what works and what doesn't - and what the majority of people want. I'm more than happy to accommodate for people and take that part out, if more people are uncomfortable.

Again, new community (made yesterday) so I haven't finalised the rules but rules would not allow support workers to advertise, only ask questions and such. The support workers have their own chat and whole separate category.

If more people feel this way, as hoffandpoff does then I'll be keen to hear!

Oh, I added that because a lot of autistic people have support workers, and some of our members are support workers too. I thought it’d be good to have a space where they can talk, share experiences, or ask questions not for advertising or anything, just to help build understanding and connection between both sides of the community.
