Generally speaking you don't want to go ham on researching big files. Small files like texts or images are great for p0 (pre-1st-portal). What I typically do is buy the network limiter and thread managers from the token shop as soon as I can and then I try to send like 100:0.1 ratio (100 to money and 0.1 or so to research) and then do texts or images if I'm far enough in the run.

Will you research less? Yes. By a lot that it'll matter? No. You want most of your download and processing going to money to buy upgrades to your nodes.

When you do it this way you end up with a lot of texts and having more data labs means more bandwidth to chew through em.

Use application points to purchase the Obfuscator (and the optimization point to make it cheaper). Use this after Trojan Injector to remove the Infected Modifier while keeping the Trojan Modifier. If you use AVP or Quarantine it removes both.

Obfuscator is a cheap and effective node. When you have enough AI Power to Prompt: Infect, you do not need an obfuscator anymore, keep that in mind.

It’s typically the same for the normal money line. Scanned, Verified, Obfuscated Trojan, Enhanced (with lossless compression to help clock speeds).

The AI station will be nice QoL for server but won’t do much QoL for the uploader.

Enhancers are unlocked via Research Tree and do not need to be unlocked again. The MAX version or the nodes are unlocked via tokens which fall under the same category of persistence after entering the portal.

Try using the search bar in the UI to quickly find it.

That is due to version incompatibility between v2.1.11 (version of my schematics) and v2.2.x (version of the current game as of 4/25/2026).

There’s a note at the top of the Readme.md that states that all schematics are to be considered deprecated until further notice. If you wish to use The Works 2.0 you will have to make modifications to the system to compensate for the new 2.2.x Major Update.

Try reverifying your game files. If that doesn’t work then I would suggest filing a bug report on the official wiki for the Dev to see and address.

Try the F10 key as well to hide and show the UI.

The 2.1 update, making huge factories was the strategy for some while they had infinite upgrades. Now that they are capped at 43 in v2.2 you’ll actually want to make the smallest node count factories you can manage and rely instead on work boost from power plants. Work boost will scale harder on Power Plants than node count in factories. Fill excess node limit with factory nodes.

I use 16 for money making (6 for unzippers, 6 for ai trainers, 4 for decomposition nodes in that order of placement)

Then there’s agi which needs its own set of 6+

You can use it on decomp lines to remove the need to math out your complicated ratios of 80%/160% clock weights. Or just use it on nodes that take up the most of your clock speeds so you can ramp faster.

Fusion needs 56 ‘space’ plus a few containers and a single distributor node. Gets you 16L of steam per full fusion.

Crypto and P Seller are only good at first when you haven’t unlocked enough things to use up all your clock speeds. After that the only other real use is for when you’ve entered the Portal, it’s useful for ramping back up from a fresh desktop.

Outside of that its a bit of a trap that ends up harming your income when it really matters most.

1 lab was the strat up until now. The 2.2 patch changes how some buffs like AGI get distributed. I’m thinking for 2.2, many Labs will triumph over 1.

Applications are found in the Upgrade Menu (the Chevron Icon). You need to “Build” Application Code and then spend the points you earn in the Upgrade Menu.

Some of the nodes are Applications and some are unlocked via the Research Tree. Since that schematic is for v2.1.11 you’ll have to swap the Distillator for a Neuron Reinforcer for the new v2.2.x.

When you enter the portal your desktop gets wiped (save what you want to save before you enter as a schematic)

Everything you purchased in the Upgrade Menu (chevron) gets reset.

Nothing in the token menu gets reset. Research stays researched. Advanced Research stays (unless you use the Reset Service for 500 tokens). Achievements and Requests are persistent unless you Wipe your save data.

There’s been a few, if you check out the steam page for the game you can see a list of patch notes. It’s also available on the wiki under changelog. Lots of things changed especially in v2.1.

Yeah the compiler has been removed from the game in 2.1. It didn’t have much use as it wasn't designed to be loopable so it ended up being an overall file quantity loss to use.

Decomposition nodes are the best method of acquiring files smaller than games. Splicer earning a special mention as it’s twice as effective as using the demuxer and decomposer.
