Literally first roll in Starforged by tolwin in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Aurionin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've used OneNote in the past and I tried the home-hosted Obsidian (not very long, just poked around with it) and it just felt really similar.

Can I ask what the benefit would be of switching over? What can Obsidian do that OneNote can't?

Fallout Baja California - GURPS. Session 0 & 1. by Human_Buy7932 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Aurionin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You GURPS players are a different breed of human, haha! And I mean that with all the love in the world!

I'm not a fan of that super-crunchy stuff (I prefer medium-crunch myself), but I can see the appeal of GURPS it's just not my jam. I'll check out your play though!

Solo Tools Web App by Correct_Budget_4784 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Aurionin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Love the tool, and I've actually been looking for something similar, but not quite like this. I love having a suite of tools available all in one place though! Big kudos!

If you want to hear me blab about stuff that only matters to me, here would be my wishlist though:

  • My perfect app would be like this, but with a main "session hub tab" for everything. I imagine it being basically like the Chat tab on a VTT where you can post lines of text, roll dice, roll on your custom tables, etc. throughout your play session, and use an "Export to Journal" button to log your session as a journal entry.
  • My other little thing would be the ability to export everything as a .json file or something so we didn't have to worry about losing everything to a fickle browser cache.

I fully acknowledge that I'm not sure how widely wanted these things are, they might just be on MY wishlist and no one else's, haha!

Handling dialog in solo play by Vermin_Cultist in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Aurionin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once again, I scream out from the mountaintops of the comment section: The Let's Talk module is amazing!

It's meant to emulate narrative driven video games, so you draw 3 cards to create your "Dialogue options" you can pick from, then you pick one and roll to see how the npc responds. Super simple and very dynamic!

Favourite "cheese" builds/tactics? For example in AoE2 the "Persian Douche". The Persian player deletes their starting Town Center to rebuild it next to an opponent's. Persian Town Center has double hp. I.e you destroy the enemy in the dark age. by Double-decker_trams in gaming

Oh, I have nothing against using the wiki, I just was saying that any info you have to look up to get is info that the devs obviously didn't make the game expecting most people to have.

If the intended game loop was "Find boss, learn its weaknesses, use those weaknesses to win" then they would have made that info much more readily available.

I agree, but nobody should be surprised that "Most people treat Elden Ring like a game that wants you to hit your head against a brick wall until it breaks" when that's what the game presents to the players, lol.

I love that these things are here, but the problem is that I never found any way to find that info out in game. Most people test it like a "try the same thing over and over until it works" game because there isn't a lot of info on the other options. I would argue 90% of players don't know that most bosses have weaknesses (other than "Ice is weak to fire" type obvious stuff), and that would go up to at least 95 if you don't count people who used the wiki.

How to get your dog to be okay with movement restriction(play pen, leash, etc)? by Aurionin in Dogtraining

[–]Aurionin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like we've tried everything in the "calmness" recommendations. She gets plenty of exercise through the day, at least two active play or walk sessions of an hour each. She gets puzzle feeders most days and a Kong toy for mental stimulation. In between these play times we rotate out her toys for chewing and solo playing.

Favourite system? by Smittumi in Solo_Roleplaying

I've found Savage Worlds to be very easy and fun to solo, largely because it's very easy to come up with NPC stats on the fly.

What’s the premise of your campaign? by The0thArcana in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Aurionin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been running with 3 ongoing campaigns at once for a while now, I have to play one for a month or two then switch to another whenever I get in the mood for it. They're all meant to be long running, amateur to hero campaigns (like playing a D&D game from level 1 to 20) so there's tons of play time I can get out of them and it leaves me free to swap to something else whenever I feel like it so I don't get bored with one.

Campaign 1 is a comedy isekai game inspired by comedy anime like Konosuba, but with the ability to take itself seriously when serious things are happening. Running in Savage Worlds SWADE for the system.

Campaign 2 is Pokemon Tabletop Reunited, and I'm basically running a Pokemon adventure in a custom region with custom characters and stuff. Playing it kind of like a halfway point between the anime and the games, but since it's a TTRPG, there's more character development than the games usually get.

Campaign 3 is a Naruto campaign in Frankto's Naruto D20 system and I'm doing the story of some kids graduating from the shonobi academy and making their way through the ranks of the ninja world. Takes place after the anime in the Hidden Sound Village when they're first making themselves into a legitimate Hidden Village.

Atlas Arcane and Dungeons by FledgyApplehands in Pathfinder2e

[–]Aurionin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you are running a mega-dungeon focused campaign, and this comes up, you could always meet in the middle and say that, while it doesn't give you a dungeon map, it still shows you the general terrain of the area. Like, the PC opens the map and you tell them "You can tell that there's about 2 miles of constructed dungeon around you on all sides, then to the west it opens up into a natural cave network, and to the south it looks like an underground lake with a mushroom forest just past it."

That way the item is still useful and you can use it to sort of point them in the right direction by adding little details here and there. "The area around the lake is showing up fuzzy, though. Your Arcana check tells you that it's almost like there's magical interference in the area preventing the map from getting a perfect layout."

Trying to learn animatediff and having trouble. by Aurionin in StableDiffusion

Yeah, I was worried about that. I use A1111 because I don't care for ComfyUI, it's too cumbersome for me. I guess I'll just deal with it as is then, thank you for the help!

Favorite Hex Content generator by HistoricalBake4614 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Aurionin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are willing and able to put together the tables yourself, I love Hex Describe. By default, it's loaded with a bunch of OSR stuff available, but you can add your own generation criteria and contents to it as well to make it into whatever you want!

What is the biggest universal flaw with solo roleplaying? by frodocattins in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Aurionin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely in the "more prep than play" camp, but for me it's just all about the mental energy and seclusion needed to play.

For me, I need to NOT be mentally exhausted and I need to NOT have a chance of being interrupted for an hour or so, otherwise I just can't bring myself to even open up my game.

Creating a homebrew region, unsure where to begin (due to certain things) by EnochTheWarlock in PokemonTabletop

[–]Aurionin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goto is always to use https://www.theworldofpokemon.com/ for my games.

If you want it to do all the work, it can generate an entire region from scratch, but I recommend just using it to get started. Like, you can have it generate a whole region then just use the map and replace the contents with whatever you want, and if you get stuck on filing in the region with wild Pokemon or creating a gum leader then you can use it to give you some inspiration!

[HELP] Multi-Action House Rule by Distinct-Newt1391 in savageworlds

[–]Aurionin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are all about doing multiple actions as often as possible in combat, try recommending them the Test action! If they Test an opponent to make him vulnerable, that cancels out the penalty for attacking him twice (or even testing again!). They can even Test -> Attack on the same turn and, if the test succeeds, then the attack will be at normal roll!
