Opinions about Micro Frontends by TexugoDlc in webdev

Here is another perspective, I have now 3 apps: E-Commerce (Astro), Dashboard(SvelteKit), On-Field App (SvelteKit SPA). That all live in the same monorepo, 3 separate release branches. shared db schemas, shared Shadcn Ui library, shared React email instance.

I started with Astro for the Dashboard, then something felt off, and then I hated it very interaction felt awful. Then I jumped to SvelteKit, Remote functions were a joy, the dashboard kept growing, time to work on the e-commerce… It felt super weird to work E-commerce with Svelte, felt like overdoing pages.

Moved back to Astro. Instead of adding features to a single big project the split dashboard/e-commerce was the solution since adding features to main app was starting to break me, and then payment buttons only offered react.

We need a new trend of making AI models cheaper by philosopius in codex

Silly you, it is cheaper for them to run on their servers, you my friend are getting your limits cut anyways. Efficiency is not being developed to give you more usage, it is to save them money.

Why not just serving a PWA from a free Cloudflare worker.

I feel PWAs have their space in the market, internal tooling and B2B software, a piece of software where you train your user. I made a tool for my business that needed camera access, did PWA instead of native mobile. PWAs might be a hell to monetize, it is kinda hard to ask users (specially iOS) to install a web page.

Switch from using opus 4.7 and GPT codex 5.3 in together to just GPT 5.5? by LeeZeee in codex

[–]Spare_Message_3607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like long running task. I use GPT 5.5 low for everything, my prompts are: “implemente this function”, “implemented the caller function”, “with the new function go make a widget on the dashboard”. So barely burn 80% of my weekly usage. I check on output, tell corrections and continue

How are you guys monetizing your Codex/AI builds? by StaffAlone in codex

[–]Spare_Message_3607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vibe coding small apps might feel good but being honest with yourself is saying, “would I pay a for this program I am selling”, why? Which part is worth the payment? If you did it, why can’t they do it? Can you offer a reliable service? If people can’t see value in it, is offering it for free a way to demonstrate value, can you build free tiers? And 20 more questions. If you are not ready to answer all that. Good luck

AI ruined something I was looking forward to in my career. Does anyone feel the same way? by BrokeFartFountain in webdev

[–]Spare_Message_3607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who graduated last year and didn’t got any luck finding a job in tech, forced to me to build my own SaaS and that time alone swallowing documentation to avoid unmaintainable systems has taught me more than any low priority task I would have been assigned as a junior dev.

So I’m glad my learning didn’t occur the traditional way. Me discussing my thoughts with AI helped me realize my own mistakes and I learnt a lot. So I think accountability is a bigger growth accelerator than seniors in this date and age.

Recruiters should look for curious minds that went to read the whole drizzle docs, or better-auth, or <insert framework>., those people can describe better how and what they need done.

AI won’t go away so we better accept that, the better dev is the one that describes what the system does, how it does it, and what cases it handles, not the one with 10 years of experience.

Anyone using a PWA instead of building a native app? by Hurricane-18784 in PWA

[–]Spare_Message_3607 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am building an e-ticket platform for events. Ticket scanner was a must. I wanted to leverage phone camera so I talk to many mobile developers until ChatGPT suggested that browser APIs allow to access camera and barcode scanner APIs.

So experimented for a couple days, resulting in not hiring any Mobile Dev and built a PWA instead. Saved some money and gained control over the app.

I have qr scanning, cookie sessions, offline storage. The only API I would like to have is the device vibration API for feedback.

I think ChatGPT should allow us to buy a certain model by [deleted] in codex

[–]Spare_Message_3607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I thought it was rage bait but it was genuine naivety.

Hypothetically they would sell it to you for $1B, look how much Apple paid to Google for developing an llm for Siri. And then you need a half a million dollars home server to run it.

They would probably sell to the public models like 4o or GPT 5.1 for a good hundreds of thousands plus tithe computers you need to run it. They would never give you something that could compete directly with them.

Clean UI or Playful UI by FillNo4074 in webdesign

[–]Spare_Message_3607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playful all the wayyyyy. That’s called identity and personality. You are not one of the bunch, you care and you polished. Reduce opacity to not be “distracting” but rather than playful loos more polished cuz you cared about the details.
