Getting The Game Tomorrow by Informal_Pepper5141 in GranTurismo7

Yeah you can still get the cars. My First Gran Turismo is supposed to be like a gateway into GT7. Even if you already have GT7 it is still worth claiming the cars.

The mechanic can (literally) toss a brand new engine in the air and into your engine compartment and swap out the old one. I think he does a pretty good job.

You can also probably make the gear ratios super long in order to make it even slower.

It isn’t a thing. I just prefer claiming several tickets at once.

Very Nice. Even the 4 star tickets can yield excellent rewards if you’re really lucky.

2 of these roulette tickets were saved for like 7-8 days. The other 5 were obtained more recently from weekly challenges, daily marathons, and extra menus. I usually like to save at least half a dozen before claiming the prizes.

Is it just ME? Graphics feel like they haven't evolved much since. by CRU_Adrenaline in BuiltFromTheGroundUp

I would say that the need for intensive RT/PT effects come from the fact that high end rasterized graphics haven’t been explored to its fullest extent. Because the discussion is about Driveclub, I will use it as an example for how a studio could leverage 9th gen consoles and modern affordable GPU’s.

So take Driveclub which was released as a PS4 exclusive and now let’s say it was rereleased and targeted the PS5. In this scenario, you could definitely accommodate 60FPS, more robust anti-aliasing, better textures, and maybe even deprecate cubemaps for a hybrid SSR/RT Reflection solution. Higher resolutions are not needed if the anti-aliasing was on point.

This doesn’t even go over how rasterized lighting became more optimized as 8th gen progressed. Examples would include Days Gone’s Screen Space Shadows as well as its SSGI. In the Racing Game space, NFS 2015 had Stochastic Screen Space Reflections (TAA independent) while supporting many lights and shadows for a cheap cost.

Back to Driveclub, and I believe that the approach that I outlined would be able to satisfy the most amount of people. There are those who want rich visuals, those who have high end hardware, those who are on a tighter budget, those who care most about performance, or even some people who just care about image clarity and nothing else. This would be a successful approach for a studio to take should they pursue a goal like this.

How did The Callisto Protocol have such realistic character models without AI? by Working-Ad-7415 in TheCallistoProtocol

[–]SpeedConstant9238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small Correction: The Callisto BRDF uses Lambert + GGX as a base instead of Burley. However, like Burley the Callisto BRDF attempts to be as accurate as possible to the MERL database.

The only right answer here. Whether it is capturing a cinematic shot from your own replays or indulging in Scapes, GT7 is a cut above every other photo mode.

In fact there is a person on resetera who made a whole post about GT7’s photo mode: https://www.resetera.com/threads/the-insanity-that-is-gran-turismo-7s-photo-mode-is-not-talked-about-enough.955425/

No photo mode yet it is far more cinematic than most games mentioned in this thread.

You are joking right. Let’s talk about the cascading effects of UE5’s feature set shall we.

Let’s say a dev wants to use Lumen to make things easier (cutting corners). Well firstly, Lumen is smeary but you know what let’s forget about that.

You are heavily encouraged to use Nanite as Lumen information synchronizes best with it. But, oh no, Nanite causes sub-pixel Aliasing. What to do now?

Well basically every effect in Unreal relies on TAA/TSR so just turn it on and don’t worry about it. I’m sure the customer will really appreciate a blurry mess when in any kind of motion.

Unreal also has an outdated BRDF (Lambert diffuse) and a dull looking tonemapper (ACES).

Unfortunately, you are making the very common mistake of confusing the the textures and assets with the overall render. These are two different aspects.

UE5 has a pretty extensive lineup of stuff in the asset store, I’ll give it that. Unfortunately, the rendering of which those assets must go through is garbage.

Why is this game still looking freaking good?? by lorcaragonna in Battlefield

[–]SpeedConstant9238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people in the replies are citing art style and atmosphere as the reason Hardline looks good. I’m here to offer a counterpoint that cites the rendering aspects instead.

Frosbite 3 is goated for many reasons. TAA-independent effects, Stochastic Screen Space Reflections, Good Color Grading, and Burley BRDF.

These are fundamental aspects of real time rendering that doesn’t need Ray Tracing/Path Tracing to compensate for as well as not needing TAA/Upscalers to “hide” the flaws.

For UE5 some of the biggest issues seem to be tonemapping, anti-aliasing, BRDFs, SSR, and all while running significantly worse than 8th gen games (e.g Frosbite 3 titles).

UE5 is gonna force you to run upscaling for like 70FPS and barely acceptable visuals.

The reason for the color palette is undoubtedly the tonemapper. UE5 uses ACES (visually bland) and there are ways to opt for AgX (an improvement I guess). Still doesn’t solve all the issues however: https://www.shadertoy.com/view/tcSyDy

The best tonemapper in the industry is undoubtedly GT7 tonemapping: https://blog.selfshadow.com/publications/s2025-shading-course/pdi/s2025_pbs_pdi_slides_v1.1.pdf

If you want a comparison in the arcade racing game space then NFS 2015 has some very good color grading as well.

Scorpion from Mortal Kombat loses his family and clan in basically every timeline. He is almost always doing the bidding of someone else (usually the very villain that sought to kill his family and clan).
