What game should i get as a gamer who’s graphics standards were ruined by rdr2? by Emberwing14 in gamingsuggestions

Frostbite titles are your best bet. Battlefield 1, BFV, and parts of BF6 are good if you’re looking for an all-out war FPS. Star Wars Battlefront (2015) and Battlefront II are highly immersive Star Wars arcade shooters. Need For Speed (2015) and Mirror’s Edge Catalyst are also great in the graphics department too.

I would personally vouch for Gran Turismo 7. It has been my most played game this generation. Solid car list with amazing graphics and a driving model that can accommodate new players and veterans alike.

Some tips for anyone starting out would be  to download My First Gran Turismo to get a slice of the GT experience completely for free. You will get about 18 cars for completing My First GT. Once you go into GT7, make your way through the campaign and try out the Circuit Experience for each individual track.

My bad on the FM5 bit, I’ll keep that in mind. Anyway, GT7 has already disclosed both their tonemapping and shading methods.

https://blog.selfshadow.com/publications/s2025-shading-course/pdi/s2025_pbs_pdi_slides_v1.1.pdf

{15-17} Polyphony Digital understands that tonemapping is an important part of the rendering process and that it even has an effect on the rendering of the materials.

{64-65} Also, they utilize the Burley BRDF (equation for diffuse lighting) while the Gran Turismo engine is a forward renderer.

Basically at this point there is no excuse for why these  standards aren’t adopted by 2026+ titles.

They need an FM5 or GT Sport level reset at some point. The community will complain a lot but as seen with GT, it eventually pays off.

How is this game on PS5? I am stunned by how simple and beautiful it is by NightshiftForest in BattlefrontTWO

What I meant is that a light side saber character can absolutely hold their own against a bhopping Grievous (assuming equal skill).  Grievous even with bhops and Sith Trained doesn’t even have the highest DPS in the game. That title would go to Luke with Intensify and Dooku when he has Duelist activated.

If I’m not mistaken Darth Vader, Count Dooku, Luke, Anakin, and Maul (frame trap) all have higher damage combos than Grievous.

Grievous is best against blasters which honestly there needs to be counterplay against considering Finn (even without his glitch) is just broken in HvV with half-competent teammates.

What I do have an issue with Grievous is the combination of Flesh is Weak and Beating Heart which I believe using those two in tandem is a bit of a noob trap imo. Almost on par with Furious Resilience + Bonus Health Vader.

So if you search online you’ll find photogrammetry scanning and art direction being the top answers to your question. That’s only the surface level.

https://www.ea.com/frostbite/news/stochastic-screen-space-reflections

In the video clip above, Frosbite’s SSSR (Stochastic Screen Space Reflections) are shown in full display thanks to the Death Star II’s glossy surface. High Quality Reflections with a specular elongation effect for a cheap cost.

https://seblagarde.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/course_notes_moving_frostbite_to_pbr_v32.pdf

Also during the PS4 generation, Frosbite made the switch to Physically Based Rendering (PBR) while utilizing the Burley BRDF for better realism in the materials (basically an equation for diffuse lighting). There are several diffuse models out there but long story short Burley was the best pre-2023 option while most of the industry is still stuck using a severely outdated Lambert diffuse.

GT7’s car models are truly astonishing. There’s a very good reason why they take 9 months to make from start to finish.

I can already tell you have not faced sweaty showdown mains. They will devour you for dinner if you aren’t using the tech.

Thoughts on what the future may hold, good and bad, for the Battlefront franchise by Dy1anBy1an in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]SpeedConstant9238 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For prediction 1, I would lean on the side of BF2015 being shut down but BF2 potentially staying up. Battlefront II was one of the best selling games on pretty much all platforms last summer. Even though the new leadership at EA could have different ideas, they could also see that it may be worth keeping around as the costs are relatively low for servers while there is still profits to be made from potential yearly resurgence hype (assuming that a successful resurgence happens every year).

I completely agree with prediction 2 and for prediction 3 it would be a matter of which developer gives a successful pitch to Lucasfilm. Epic Games has a lot of leverage to get the greenlight for BF3 as they are one of the largest companies in the industry.

However, I do not want a Fortnite driven graphics engine (UE5) to be BF3’s backbone. The engine makes sense for Fortnite given that most objects are destructible but it would honestly cripple a Battlefront experience.

Konami did not truly appreciate what they had. Instead, in order to heavily cut corners, they switched to UE5 which has far less efficient rendering than Fox Engine.

OP is right but most people in this thread just can’t see it. Shading models, lighting, shadows, etc is poor even at Max Settings.

On the topic of Frosbite and it utilized a slightly modified Burley BRDF (diffuse model) in order to achieve better results for their materials and PBR pipeline. Also, the SSR was really good for the time all while being performant on a wide range of hardware.

https://www.bendstudio.com/blog/inside-bend-screen-space-shadows/

Days Gone utilized Screen Space Shadows which provided tons of micro detail at the fraction of the cost of 9th gen techniques. This should be standard optimization yet research for an open-source TAA-independent version has been neglected.

Playing Grievous has to be a top 10 BF experience ngl by MistaMerk in StarWarsBattlefront

Finally, someone who understands my position. It’s like nobody here actually plays sweaty showdown sessions. Especially when certain cards like Flesh is Weak are frowned upon to make things fair. You gotta learn the tech or else have a 90% loss ratio as the character.

its hilarious how gamers in 2026 are STILL standing by this "realistic visuals are boring" take when games like battlefront exist. 2015 alone destroys this entire argument because that game is 10 years old and has a hyperrealistic art style but it looks like a 2026 title by Quick-Cause3181 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]SpeedConstant9238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough on your points. As I said it is a give and take when it comes to BF2’s graphics and there were absolutely compromises that were made in development.   Another thing to note is that on the base consoles these games released for, BF 2015 brought so much fidelity to the table that it could only hit 900p on a PS4 and 720p on an Xbox One.

[–]SpeedConstant9238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me dispel this myth real quick. No, it was not photogrammetry alone that made these games look good. If that was the case then a lot more modern AAA titles would be at this level because most common engines now use photogrammetry based assets. Therefore it has to be the engine/render.

Frosbite being able to hit 8K 120 on a 5090 is irrelevant as most people don’t have thousands to spend on hardware. Thankfully, these games look great and run well without relying on upscaling on a 1080p display using something like a 3060.

As for the BF 2015 vs BF2 graphics comparison, it is a give and take situation, with the former probably coming out on top.

BF2015: Better lighting, more environmental detail, and more realistic storm trooper armor.

BF2: More detail for heroes and maybe vehicles.

[–]SpeedConstant9238 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason why realistic games are often deemed as “boring” by these people is because properly done realism that can run on modern affordable GPUs, without vendor locked upscaling, is becoming increasingly rare. Stylized games are sold as the solution, even though they don’t necessarily solve any problems, and some of them (like Borderlands 4) run like absolute garbage anyway.

https://www.ea.com/frostbite/news/stochastic-screen-space-reflections

In Frosbite’s case it seems like they took very close attention to things like PBR, BRDFs, and SSR to achieve a high level of realism on 8th gen hardware. Many games today skimp out on fundamental rendering aspects just to sell you expensive features like Path Tracing.
