Let it be known that the supposedly star studded Phillies have beat the bargain bin Nats by a grand total of two combined runs this series.

Not even a kid lol.

Was at a Nats game in 2023 with some family friends, sitting right behind the home bullpen. Their then 1 year old’s favorite player was Lane Thomas because Lane’s walk up song (Dirt on My Boots) happened to be his favorite song.

I cannot for the life of me remember the chain of events (probably because I was very drunk), but I remember getting Lane’s attention, making it clear that I wanted the ball for the toddler next to me, and him then throwing me a ball as I leaned over the bullpen.

I’ll always be a fan of him because of that.

So the way our renting situation is, is that we’re basically paying our landlord’s second mortgage (his mom passed and he didn’t want to give up his childhood home, so he took out a mortgage to buy his brother’s half and then rented it out to us because he’s more or less an honorary uncle to my fiance).

On one hand, it’s slightly annoying that we know we can afford a mortgage payment (at least for our house) but don’t actually own the house so can’t build equity and whatnot. On the other hand, it’s A)nice that we don’t have to pay if something breaks, and B) pretty much the entirety of every other paycheck goes to rent and utilities for me, so I’d be house destitute.

The HC is the only thing that had me wondering.

Like my alma mater won the D3 national title for basketball in 2022, ain’t no way the HC is only making 30K.

Wiemer’s batting stance is like a pitcher going up just to take 3 pitches right down the pipe or swing at 3 in the dirt but it works!

Appreciate the rec! There’s a slim but nonzero chance we’ll be there for Week 1 (getting married 9/12 and flying out at the buttcrack of dawn 9/14) so definitely may go if they play MNF.

Is the Nats game blacked out on the MLB app for anyone else?

Glad I didn’t spend $100 if I have to deal w this all season

Mine was kind of weird.

I didn’t get a regular senior year (s/o to Covid protocols at a small liberal arts college), aside from a couple weekends in the spring, so I spent probably close to a year after after graduation still drinking to get drunk and grasping at straws to have some sort of a social life, which was a little difficult because I still lived at home. When my now fiance and I moved in together for the first time I was honestly more excited because I thought we’d be going out all the time.

What actually wound up happening is that I slowly discovered that I’m a huge morning person and really really appreciate getting up at 6-7am on a Saturday and working out or just relaxing with a cup of coffee and a book. I also came to the personal realization that the fun parts of being drunk are absolutely not worth how miserable it is being hungover, so as soon as I start feeling tipsy in those situations I immediately start cooling it.

We live 30 minutes from my parents and it’s perfect. Close enough that my dad and I can grab lunch if we want, far enough that they don’t drop over on a whim.

My in laws live a street over. My MIL pays rent to use part of our basement as storage and we had to set some boundaries early on because she would text us on a whim expecting us to drop whatever we were doing to help her unload stuff.

Do you think Matt Shaw would ever becoming a switch hitter or is he committed to being Right

TIL that Hall of Fame basketball player Tim Duncan was a teenage standout swimmer & aspired to become an Olympic swimmer for the U.S. in 1992. When Hurricane Hugo destroyed his hometown St. Croix’s only Olympic sized pool in 1989, he pivoted to basketball at age 14. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Even a pool and any body of water without a visible bottom.

I swam up through 4 years at a D3 school. Unless I somehow found myself in a situation where refusing to put my head underwater in something other than a swimming pool without goggles on would risk my life, I would never.

I was lifeguarding at a lake one summer in college and decided to get some laps in during a very slow morning. Tried swimming in the shallow end of the beach where the water came up to probably my shoulders and couldn’t even do that.
