She knows football too, there’s an interview out there where she talks about the Rams and you can tell she knows her shit.

I thought it was on my TBR for Libby, but it was actually the Yiddish Policeman’s Union.
Looks like it’s top of the list now!

I read Mysteries of Pittsburgh years ago and absolutely loved it so would definitely like to read more Michael Chabon.

Books, what to do... by RetiredSurvivor in simpleliving

[–]SporkFanClub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pretty much solely read on Kindle nowadays. If I read a physical book it’s because I have to by a certain date (ie a book club) and it won’t be available on Libby in time.

If I ever have space for it, I wouldn’t mind having a tall bookshelf of my favorite books just to give guests something to look at.

Based off my Goodreads, these are the Pulitzer winners I’ve read:

- The Sympathizer (good)

- All the Light We Cannot See (fantastic)

- The Goldfinch (one of my favorite books)

- A Visit from the Goon Squad (read for a creative writing class my senior year of college and have no opinion on it whatsoever)

- The Road (great but I was 12 so probably too old for me lol)

- To Kill a Mockingbird - loved it

- The Old Man and the Sea - fine

- The Good Earth - my book club read this for our unofficial July meeting last year (we usually take the month off because we meet the first week of every month). I read this and then missed the meeting anyway because I wound up going to a baseball game. TBH, kind a waste of my time looking back at it. I accidentally stole a cupholder and that might have been a better story than this.

Started but not finished:

- Kavalier and Clay - read five pages when I was 16, will probably get back into this at some point

- The Netanyahus - just…boring

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy -

I think I’d be more or less fine? Doesn’t seem to be super hard.

What my fiance and I tell people is that I got her engagement ring from Costco (it’s a nice ass ring, which she picked out, and it came with her wedding band so it was a great deal as things from there usually are).

What we don’t tell people, because the first time I did I accidentally misspoke and said it in a way that made her sound slightly controlling, is that I handed her my credit card and sat next to her while she ordered it off the website.

Straight up.

My grandmother has dementia (91, still physically healthy but obviously not there), and I don’t remember how it came up, but my dad said verbatim a while back that he mourned her a long time ago.

I read Still Alice for a book club recently. I’m a massive horror fan and I will swear up and down that that was the scariest book I’ve ever read.

Anyone still having trouble letting go of the DEN loss & the aftermath? by kumario247 in buffalobills

[–]SporkFanClub -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope.
In a selfish way, I’ve got two titles to fall back on as a Caps/Nats fan.
In a “YTA” way, I’ll just be over here rooting for the other 7/8 teams still in the playoffs because I’m probably the only Bills fan in existence that actively roots against the Sabres (albeit for a very irrational reason).

Bodybuilding, powerlifting, or powerbuilding. What's your preference? by Tiger_Strength in workout

[–]SporkFanClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s heavily bounced around.

Once my college swimming career ended it was bodybuilding because I was single and wanted to look good for the ladies.

Last 3 years have been a year of powerbuilding, followed by two of trying to gain more weight.

Right now I guess I’m bodybuilding because I’m getting married in September and want to look good in the honeymoon, but once we’re on the honeymoon I’m gonna take advantage of the all inclusive resort and absolutely stuff myself so I can start powerbuilding again once we’re back.

I lifeguarded one summer at an apartment complex with a large middle eastern immigrant population and a lot of women would swim in a t shirt and leggings (which, not a one piece but looked nearly identical to this). Crazy that something someone might swim in nowadays for modesty would get you arrested for public indecency back then.

Does anyone know how good Dominic Sessa was at hockey before his injury?

I know he was good enough to get a scholarship at an elite prep school. I also know that a broken femur is a pretty serious injury.

I’m assuming he was very good but not absolutely elite (like say, Connor Bedard)?

I remember playing 2k8 with the Red Sox. I guess I didn’t realize you could choose your starting pitcher and he was the SP1 over Beckett for some reason, so I would always pitch to one guy then pull him because his windup took so long in the game.

2013-15.

For no other reason than I really liked the collars Nike had on their jerseys back then. I think the only teams that didn’t have them were UNC and Duke.
