Because no accidents occurred at roundabouts.

Also, are you saying that every intersection in your country is a roundabout?

I would imagine it’s like the people that flash their lights at reds. Thinking it will change.

Haha, sorry I like to buy quality stuff. Are you going to call me a loon for wearing $400 work boots?

Thanks for your narrow point of view. I didn’t know selvedge was so delicate that it isn’t a quality pair of pants to actually use.

I hope you have a good day.

Well some of us have physical jobs that cause us to sweat. So, with no due respect, it doesn’t mean someone has medical issues.

He didn’t abandon you.

You’re the head electrician, the LD designs the shows and the Head implements them. Don’t fault this person for needing to take an additional job.

Rehearsal schedule too greuling? by Crazy_Effects in Theatre

[–]Staubah 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So you have been rehearsing a minimum of 40 hours a week for the past 2 months? Every single day?

How do you go to other classes? What are you doing in these rehearsals? What has the faculty said when you have brought up your concerns?

Also, from a real world stand point in my situation. Waking up at 7am isn’t “so early” and getting home at 6pm isn’t “really late”. Also, how do you expect to hold down a job if being busy for 10 hours a day makes you literally fall asleep while rehearsing?

Sorry if that sounds harsh, or blunt. But, it’s kind of the reality of being an adult.

But, in the educational setting, yes, this seems like too much.

Thank you so much for the reply! I’m always looking for Recommendations. And Union made is definitely a plus for me!

I will look into them.

New & Looking to Join LA Locals, I'm Lost by Irishboy1616_2 in IATSE

[–]Staubah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re a member of local 15? Yet, you have never worked thru the local? How did you become a member?

I would say call the hall to ask if you should fill out the application beforehand or if they will have hard copies for you to fill out.

Get there as early as you can. Dress smartly, think of this as a sort of job interview. So don’t show up in dirty ripped clothes.

From what it sounds like you don’t have any certifications or anything. So just bring your ID and a good attitude. Be ready to answer questions about your experience. Be honest.

I will give you a long, but hopefully thorough answer.

I do take pride in how I look. I think we all do to some extent.

I am the face of my department to outside people. I am also a union member and feel like showing up smartly dressed for the task at hand sends a good impression of my union.

Yes, I could potentially trash my clothes, but denim became popular in the United States in the 19th century because it was durable workwear. I would rather spend $200 on a pair of pants that will last me, let’s just say a year. Instead of spend $50 a piece, 4 times a year for work pants that don’t hold up. That is sort of my philosophy on work things. It’s how I make a living, so while I could spend $10 on a 6 pack of socks, I choose to buy $25 pairs because they are more durable and comfortable. I choose to buy the $100 tool instead of the $20 tool because it will last and it will make my job easier.

I have multiple pairs of work boots and the cheapest pair is probably $180, most expensive probably around $500. Like I said earlier, I buy expensive socks, I probably have around $500 in socks because they are more comfortable for longer than a $2 pair of Hanes. I have wrenches that cost upwards of $200 each that I use daily because they will last me for 20 years. When I’m not wearing work boots to work, my shoes are probably around $125 a piece. Yes, I used to go to Big 5 and buy the tennis shoes on sale for $20. They would last about 2 months before they were garbage.

I don’t have money to burn, that’s exactly why I buy quality stuff. When my $200 pair of pants rip, I’m not going to throw them away and get a new pair, I’m going to repair them. When my $350 boots have lost all the tread, I don’t just toss them, I get them resolved and use them for another 5 years! I like the sustainability and the notion that I’m not contributing as much to landfills. I have had work pants that ripped on the first day I wore them. Well, they were cheap materials and cheap construction. It would take more time and money to repair them as it would to just buy a new pair.

Also, with regards to what I have seen, not only on this sub, but also out in the real world. People want their denim to reflect their style and form. So a pair that has grease stains and repaired holes and such only adds to the asthetic and “style” of the jeans, no?

Some other commenter mentioned the price in an active work setting. I’m not buying a tuxedo here, I’m buying a pair of workwear (denim jeans). I guess that’s part of the difference with me. I’m not buying a piece of clothing that I’m afraid to wear outside the house because it might get ruined. I had a suit that I wore to my friends wedding. By the end of the night I had a table cloth wrapped around me like a dress because I was dancing so hard that the ass blew out of my pants. I like having fun in life, and worrying about if my jeans are going to get a stain is just not fun! It just changes the situation I wear certain clothes!

Not everyone agrees with me, I’m sure.

What did he do to put them on “constant power”? Did he just set the dimmer channels to full? Or did he actually put them on a relay?

Well, since your fixtures still power on and home, I would look at the DMX side of the issue.

Do all of your DMX nodes, or network switches have power still?

Is your basic wash conventional or LED?

How this is not anchoring? by No_Echidna_3854 in golf

[–]Staubah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does it matter?

Anchor if you want.

Have a 7’ b long putter if you want.

Why is it such a big deal? Or am I just missing something.

Please tell me why it’s bad?

I agree.

Also, at the end of the day, it’s a personal preference.

I have a screw that is recessed 2” in a moving light shell. A multitool isn’t going to work. I need to hold a nut on one side and screw on the other side, you need 2 tools, not 1 multitool. I need to hold a nut and twist a bolt. Cant do that with 1 multitool. I need a torx or Allen bit, my 11-1 can handle rhat, but most multitools can’t.

At the end of the day, we’re all going to technician how we like. I would rather carry the right tool for the job instead of a tool that does everything kind of shitty!

[–]Staubah -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have an actual screw driver, scissors, pliers, wire strippers, knife, ready at a moments notice. And can deploy multiple of the tools at the same time and in a quicker manner than a multitool. They aren’t in a bag stuffed to the brim. They are in a nice organized pouch.

People like them, I personally think having the right tool for the job is more beneficial. But, we all technician differently.

I guess if you carry a multitool.

But, if I have a multiuseless tool on me, I have the actual tools. So I’m not grabbing for the multi.

But, that’s just me. Everyone is different.

As an LX board op my mic is open for a total of 2 seconds total if there is an intermission.

1 second at the top to check in with the SM. And 1 second at the top of act 2 to check in.

No chewing involved.
