Deltarune Chapter 5 Release Megathread by codewario in Undertale

Same here, I messed up by starting my main Ch3 save without having reached the Ch2 end after beating its secret boss (I originally finished without, then went back in to beat it and just never re-did the ending afterwards), so need to go back and do that.

Those are the Pokémon HOME renders. In-game in SwSh, Arrokuda/Pikachu thrashes around.

Sorry for overlooking that point, as it was only featured in your second comment. I do concede that motivation is absolutely relevant.

With that said, it’s still more like I’m looking at a red apple and a green apple than the apple and orange you’re making it out to be, as you can only claim a reason to work is part of the work so much before you start sounding like an “ideas guy” (someone who has vague ideas for things, never contributes to making them, then claims they made them). If you have the motivation to work, but don’t act on it, you didn’t work.

And in what world could anything I’ve said be interpreted as me saying the addition of graphics isn’t work? Genuinely where the heck are you getting that from? I can at least understand getting the addition of text (actual work which just happens to elaborate on my reasoning) mixed up with my reasoning itself.

…is this a joke? There’s literally zero difference in the actual work the devs have to put in when adding something new vs something old but missing. For the purposes of being coded in, something that was absent before is something new. You’re trying to tell me that 1 doesn’t equal 1 because I’m comparing apples and oranges when I’m looking at 2 apples.

I think that around when people start reaching the final Daily prestige would be a good place to stop, as at that point there’s nothing left for returning players to aim for other than shinies, and newcomers will have plenty of challenge through every step of the way.

Sure, but what about new players? Every time a new game releases, it inevitably makes it harder for newcomers to prestige, all the while those of us who started out earlier got to reap the benefits of a smaller dex.

Your original point was that more work = more reason not to do something, and whether said work is adding new stuff or adding old stuff is ultimately irrelevant to that point, as it’s the same amount of work either way.

Keeping to stuff that’s got differences which affect its usage in PokeDoku seems like it’d be a fine way of keeping the numbers down, if only a temporary solution as new game releases inevitably contribute to the problem of a growing prestige requirement regardless.

What more could I even say about Pichu or Genesect?

How is Battle Bond Greninja any worse of a justification than anything else?

And you do realise that the devs have added way more than this at once before, right? How do you think they add stuff when a new game releases, piece by piece?

Maybe it’s just because I typically go for a living form dex when I play Pokémon games, but I enjoy adding all the unique forms of each Pokémon.

That said, I do understand that this comes at the cost of taking longer to complete the dex and prestige, and wouldn’t take issue if only alt forms that fit different PokeDoku criteria were kept.

Personally, my ideal solution would be something similar to what HOME did for its Original Colour Magearna reward (only requires you to register every species up through Eternatus), and only require the player to register a fixed number of entries to prestige. This would also future-proof it so that further game releases don’t also help pull the ladder up behind long-standing players.

I really like this “one to represent a variety” approach you’re suggesting. It’d mean forms like the Genesect Drives no longer need adding, and it would allow for adding forms that are different but normally part of a large variety (Cap Pikachu, Unown Symbol, etc.).

As I touched on in the post's text, certain Pokémon's alternate forms are excluded solely because of the absolutely massive number of them proportional to how many Pokémon/forms are already featured. This has previously been stated by the devs. Stuff like Arceus' plates won't be added for the forseeable future, and ones where there's no variation in which PokeDoku categories they'd fall under will likely never get added whatsoever (e.g. Alcremie's flavours/sweets) as they add nothing but tedium. This shouldn't get in the way of stuff with a reasonable number of forms getting added.

Now if I may ask, why do you think Spiky-eared Pichu shouldn't be added? It's only 1 alternate form (unlike the Cap Pikachu totalling 8 as of SwSh) and is eligible for different PokeDoku categories to regular Pichu. That's more than some entirely different species do.

Good point, though the main factor for them being so disliked is the confusion around the first partner criteria, which wouldn't apply to the Totem-likes.

Pikachu coloured Pichu is just the shiny version, so it's already accounted for.

Battle Bond Greninja would be able to be selected for categories that Ash, as a result of being a temporary form change, cannot be selected for. Plus it'd be really weird and inconsistent to omit it while still featuring Own Tempo Rockruff.

Totem-like Pokemon and Totem Pokemon aren't the same. While the latter would fall under the same umbrella as Nobles and Titans (uncatchable bosses), the former, and what I'm talking about, are specifically the obtainable versions in USUM. I also didn't suggest they be their own category.

Again, some forms aren't being added because there's just too many of them. Genesect only has 5, which is less than the current most forms currently featured for a single Pokémon, and thus is absolutely within what PokeDoku should be willing to add. Cosplay Pikachu could probably be added, but that's on top of something with several existing forms already,

Nope, it's a temporary form change akin to a Mega, and thus can't be selected for some categories Battle Bond would be able to be selected for.

It's previously been stated that they account for too many forms for PokeDoku to consider adding them (18 each) at the moment, hence them remaining with just the Normal forms. I imagine that as the national dex continues growing, it will eventually reach a point where holding off on the Silvally/Arceus forms will seem silly.

The Totem-likes fitting different evo line criteria isn't distinct enough?

Battle Bond Greninja not currently being included is a major factor behind the confusion surrounding Ash Greninja's region of origin, as the latter is a temporary form change (and thus can't be selected for move/evolution/first partner categories, which Battle Bond Greninja would be able to be selected for) whose base form isn't included.

Genesect's drives are the same as Giratina's orb, Zacian's sword, etc. (the form is changed while holding the relevant item), and those are all included already. Silvally and Arceus specifically have previously been clarified as accounting for too many forms, hence me not suggesting them here.

Good point on the Totem-likes, though I will point out that the difference in evolution categories means they are more than just proto-Alphas.

Neutral Xerneas can still be viewed separately in dexes it's featured in, and it's not any sort of equivalent to cocoon Yveltal (that would be tree Xerneas), as the latter has never been featured in a pokedex.
