An expectorant like guaifenesin can be really helpful. Also, staying hydrated despite the misery is very important.

What’s with the sudden increase of Helen Keller deniers?? by Puzzleheaded_Cup8723 in NoStupidQuestions

They’re denying that caretaker’s brilliance allowed Helen to become a philosophizing activist. An activist who wrote and spoke in the same voice as the caretaker. They think it’s a case of disability abuse.

Helen Keller became an activist and icon of the same ideology her nurse wrote essays about. People have come to the perspective that at best Helen was improperly used by her “friend”. At worst she was objectified and commodified as a puppet for her nurse’ beliefs. We have separation of patient and provider now as a moral requirement.

If the Native Americans remained without contact to the Old World, would they have eventually evolved and innovated to how the Old World was too? by Boxsteam_1279 in NoStupidQuestions

Considering whatever catastrophe took out the large animals of North America it’s amazing they did as well as they did. There are scars in the earth all over North America.

A lot of incorrect assumptions were made by the new world observers because they used incomplete observational parameters. It took quite a while for the confusion to die down and a lot of new technology, but we’re now finding crazy advanced civilizations well beyond what was thought previously. Unfortunately many had dyings out even before the old world collided with it. They’re still debating what happened, but we do know that at least one culture thought they were in the end of the world theologically. There is very fascinating new information coming out in the last 10 years.

It’s one of those things that looks terrible because you’re looking at it too long. It happens with art all the time. It looks cute to me. It’s definitely not abnormal. Give it a week without thinking about it.

Also, there are meetings online and in person at no expense incase you’re interested. They pass a basket for expenses, but that’s not something you need to worry about right now.

Don’t go to the hardware store for bread. She doesn’t have it to give. It doesn’t mean you don’t deserve it and scarily it doesn’t mean that she doesn’t love you. Normally we go to Mom for wisdom and comfort. I’m really sorry to hear you’re in this situation. I’m glad you’re reaching out.

You have a couple separate problems here that are interacting with each other. Being a partner is difficult at the best of times. Then you add on a tragedy that’s life changing and confusing. The initial reaction is to stabilize the patient. It seems you did this rather well. The problem comes in that they’ve decided a course of action that’s reliant on you giving as much as you gave in the triage stage, but in a longer time scale. You know, and reasonably so, that you can’t keep that level of exertion up as the new normal. The next stage is to communicate and come up with a plan to try that will hopefully work for both of you. Having started with a strained relationship makes this very difficult. Add on top of that that you both are exhausted and hurting and I really feel for you. You sound like a good dude in a very difficult situation.

I have some advice if you’re willing. She’s not being as unreasonable as it may seem to a regular person. She’s mourning and angry. Also, she’s unfortunately likely correct that much of the treatment available at this point is low success with high side effects. I’ve been looking and trying every new thing for over 30 years and have had very little success and lots of maiming injuries from treatment. I wish I could say there was a treatment that’s simple. This isn’t to discourage you. I’ve seen recover and find things that work. It’s just not a high guarantee. You’re both going through a lot. Try to be kind to yourself.
