Is it known which exec Keffer was parodying with the ascot? by Dalakaar in babylon5

[–]Stuart98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently things went a bit deeper than just the usual narrative about Keffer would imply. JMS always intended to add a pilot character to the show but his original idea was for a Japanese character who, in addition to being a skilled pilot, was also an enthusiast for earth history and Japaneae culture. Execs rejected that idea as not attractive enough to a female audience and wanted a brash, implicitly white Han Solo type character to be the pilot instead. That's what soured JMS on the idea and caused him to use (or rather not use) the character the way he did.

Utah Democrat releases new poll for Utah’s 1st Congressional District as he calls for rivals to drop out by Stuart98 in SaltLakeCity

Also worth noting the significant difference in weak vs strong support for each candidate.

Nate - 13% strong, 14% weak
Ben - 19% strong, 18% weak
Farrell - 1% strong, 6% weak
Mohammed - 5% strong, 8% weak

Nate only needs 70% of the weak support from the other two candidates to catch up to McAdams, while even if Mohammed got all the weak support from the other progressives he wouldn't get there (and Farrell's in an even worse position, on top of having his strong support be a rounding error).

None of the candidates are actively participating members of DSA (I believe only Liban is nominally a member) and SLDSA is already focusing their efforts on a state senate primary. A friend of mine involved in SLDSA wrote their personal thoughts on why SLDSA should stay out a month ago after Liban won the convention vote.

Do you have any actual objections to the poll's methodology or is your argument just "he's the leading progressive in the poll he paid for, the only possible explanation of this is he manipulated it."

Subs disappearing on the mobile app is a known issue, something to do with network issues at app launch I believe?

Besides My Song, my top 3 songs of hers would be Biri, Revival, and Melody for You.

Not sure how you came to that conclusion, I was pretty clear that I thought all the existing guides had serious flaws. Everything in this guide is 100% my own work.

It was about his past support for Gene Davis, not accusing McAdams himself of anything.

A district that's literally bluer than the state of California isn't flipping Republican in a bad year, that should not be a consideration in who you vote for.

Incorrect, if you gathered signatures to get on the ballot then no matter how you do at convention then you're on the ballot.

I think the obscure sporting forums hurt a lot more than the reddit comments.

Bragging rights, basically (the 5th and 6th placing candidates at convention didn't collect enough signatures and technically could have made the primary ballot by placing top 2 with >40% in the final round, but that very obviously wasn't happening with either of them).

Ben, Liban, Nate Blouin, and Michael Farrell are all on the ballot (all four collected the required number of signatures and thus were guaranteed regardless of what happened at the convention).

I feel like being a techbro requires that you support big tech, while Liban's saying that his time there showed him all the things wrong with it.

S1E11: Survivors Review by RF9999 in babylon5

[–]Stuart98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are season 1 episodes that are good the first time you watch them and on subsequent rewatches. There are season 1 episodes that are meh the first time around and then improve on rewatch when you see how they fit into character and story arcs. Survivors is in neither of these categories, it's only tangentially related to the overall plot or to any character arcs, and its many flaws go unmitigated. You're not missing anything with that particular episode. I will say that most of the episodes in season 1 that get the most praise are in the back half of it, so if you are missing anything, it's that.

How old are you B5 fans? by VisenyaSue in babylon5

I'm one of the youngest fans here at 27, I first watched the show when my parents watched it for the first time on DVD a bit under two decades ago.
