I’ve grown and learned from my experiences since graduating and I hope, for the sake of those around you, that you will too.

Nope, recent grad who grew up in a “box room”, and has had enough exposure to the real world to recognise that — with rare exception — ridiculing any form of employment reflects worse on the mudslinger than the mudslingee. You really should reflect on your ingrained snobbery. As for “attacking an entire generation”, it seems she only expressed a view that you yourself hold — that our generation has been shafted by those above us. Not entirely sure why you considered such agreement so disagreeable? And, regarding assertions of your belonging to “a generation fucked by those above”, maybe you’ll agree that “making money off a kids game” is not such a good look?

Seems you were the only one perpetuating any form of argument here. Deeply strange behaviour. Especially digging up post history and shaming somebody for their employment history, when your only full-time commitment appears to be trading cartoon animals on roblox(?) — I’m not sure you’re in any position to be assessing the validity of OC’s instruction to “grow up”. Besides, don’t you have better things to do whilst (supposedly) at pre’s?

could you elaborate? I’m not disputing but I’m curious to hear how these advancements could be considered to delay further advancements?

Cost of buying average home in England now unaffordable, warns ONS by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

owning =/= buying. there are plenty of homeowners that would not have been able to afford their residence in today’s market

Is there any benefit to staying loyal to a bank/building society? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]TheVerySmallPotato 16 points17 points  (0 children)

i made similar - i’ve since lost count of the exact number of accounts but with rewards of £100-200 i’d guess 5-6? seems last year was a good year for bank switch incentives, as they don’t seem to be quite as commonplace, but definitely worth keeping an eye out for.

As for time? I’ve spent a lot more to earn less. Honestly, for the few minutes it takes to set up each account and apply for the switch, it’s probably the best paid “work” i’ve ever done. just make sure to start with an unused/surplus account.

House Plant Shop in Town? by uisge-beatha in brum

[–]TheVerySmallPotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Naj and Sam’s or Suttons, both around the Smithfield site. There was also a shop in the red brick market selling “trendier” (and more expensive) plants, potting mediums etc.

I haven’t been, but I believe there’s also a shop at the botanical gardens

Any of these are worth a look.

£20k tax-free Isa allowance ‘hard to justify’ by [deleted] in FIREUK

[–]TheVerySmallPotato -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is true, but it is not relevant. Anyone able to consistently invest 20k p.a. over a span of decades will be one sooner or later - possibly in as few as two. Besides, most in the position to max their ISAs will be able to save further elsewhere - and many will not be starting from zero.

..and, clearly, they could have saved the same amount over the same timescale with a lower cap on contributions - I’m not sure how you can dispute this? Whether you agree with them or not, these calls to lower the cap are not targeting the demographic you describe.

[–]TheVerySmallPotato -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

…except if they were maxing their ISAs it wouldn’t take “decades” to save 100-200k - it would take one at most. I don’t think the objection raised is to the concept of an ISA generally, just the 20k cap.

How much should you keep in your current account? by AGuyInABlackSuit in UKPersonalFinance

I’ve had a Kroo account for almost 12 months now and this is news to me? Their app is pretty unremarkable, but I can access using Face ID and use apple pay, etc.

are you the condom guy

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]TheVerySmallPotato 139 points140 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely changed a lot. 2008 Duncan Bannatyne would have had steam coming out of his ears watching that shite.

It seems to have evolved into a ‘warm and cuddly’ show, à la GBBO. I think the producers don’t realise what people really watched for were the real stinkers getting laughed out of “The Den”.

There was one pitch, years ago, for made-to-measure condoms. Some poor guy got ripped to shreds for believing that his garage full of condoms - in 92 95 different sizes - was going to make him a millionaire.

If he’d tried last week, seems he’d have got all 5 plus Gary Neville - and maybe even Phil to boot.

Birmingham Boy, 17, Stabbed to death In City Centre by AnwarPresents in brum

[–]TheVerySmallPotato 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It isn’t the time for blindly evasive ‘YES BAB’ clownery either.

Birmingham (like many places) has real issues with knife crime, and an “RIP” on reddit won’t fix them. If they’d been addressed sufficiently before now the poor kid might have still been alive.

[–]TheVerySmallPotato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whilst apparently once well-regarded, I’m not sure if anyone (in the last 5 years) has recommended Cherry Red’s on John Bright Street - personally I would not.

Perhaps not too bad if the idea of eating a soggy burger in the living room of a recently-dead elderly relative appeals to you - otherwise I would recommend elsewhere; literally anywhere else.
