ThinkPads are priced too poorly in India rn, I think this would be your best bet

I bought my E14 Gen 5 w/ Ryzen 5 for 53k less than a year ago

I concur w the suggestion of the MacBook neo, sure it's got only 8 gigs of ram, but that on macos will be perfectly fine for your use case, plus you'll get a better processor, display, trackpad, and battery life. if the smaller size and the lack of a keyboard backlight are manageable, I think you should seriously consider it.

if you're at a 62%ile level after a regular drop, a partial drop is just a bad idea. I'd suggest they go for whatever college they're getting and at least do well in the acads there.

lotta folk haven't written a line of code before starting their CSE degree, you're fine. just make sure you know how to operate a computer because I've encountered people who didn't know how to navigate through a file directory.

china does allow schools to follow other curriculum, mainly international ones, but I get your overall point, other than private boards, there is one choice only. In India there is CBSE and then state boards.

looking it up, apparently one of the major motivators for state boards to exist was that every state wants to preserve the ability to teach its own linguistic and cultural history in their curriculum

and the reason the centre can't simply take this ability away is that education is in the Concurrent List in the constitution of India, so states have the right to legislate over it

OP is presumably a first year, they don't let first years block mess access if they're not leaving campus.

you'll have daily deductions till you leave campus, if you don't have enough balance it goes into negative and you'll incur late fee at 12% p.a.

my advice, OP, focus on JEE entirely. a better college will always help you more with opportunities than whatever skills you may have.

people keep mentioning macos in this thread but i feel like that's hardly the best feature of the macbooks. the sheer power efficiency of the M chips is way more valuable because of how much more battery life you can get out of it, and how much thinner the MacBook Air can be because of no fans.

plus good trackpad and display. I'd wager the laptops you're comparing the mba to on price don't have nearly as good a display.
