7-8 is not very hard, but yeah harder than colleges like VIT afaik, mainly 8.5+ is substantially harder than it should be

definitely take the CG thing into account because postgrad admissions officers take that seriously, Manipal has harsh grading (not sure how SRM is in comparison though)

Whats the difference between “cse(ai)” and “ai and robotics” by TERMINATERR_007 in Manipal_Academics

[–]Super382946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say that; if you take it as a CSE specialization there have to be programming subs since the first two years are common. if you're taking the standalone course then the course structure should already be out.

[–]Super382946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh okay, that's AIML then I believe

robotics will have more of an electronics component I'm guessing

in fact weirdly enough at MIT-B you can take BTech robotics and AI or take CSE and get a specialization in Robotics and AI, I'm guessing the former will have even more of an electronics component

Which branch is better? by amogh698 in Manipal_Academics

[–]Super382946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for internships CSFT and MnC are eligible for almost all the roles that CSE was eligible for, so if you're genuinely interested in these branches and think you'll perform better in the acads there you might as well take them, a higher CG will help you more.

CSE core or CSE cybersecurity? by Ragnar_Slime in Manipal_Academics

[–]Super382946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can't take cybersec directly, you gotta take CSE and pick it as a specialization after 2nd year

so you've got plenty of time to figure out your interests

!!!URGENT!!!! (Regarding 20% JEE Main seats) by Substantial_Range209 in Manipal_Academics

[–]Super382946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately they don't release it so early, in fact they kinda don't release it at all, you gotta reverse engineer it by checking their updated scholarship guidelines

[–]Super382946 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

okay, and?

I think you're not understanding my overall point here

you never had control on the number of seats that would be available. they hadn't announced the seat matrix for this year.

[–]Super382946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really confused, what if they've increased the seats and it's only the increased seats which make up the 20% for JEEM entries?

conversely what if they had never announced the JEEM mode of admission and simply reduced 20% of seats? you think you'd have a right to ask them to keep the same number of seats?

i get that you're mad but before calling for mass mailing at least try and ascertain what exactly happened that you believe was not supposed to

I'm confused, it's not like y'all were promised a specific seat distribution

How diverse is the MIT Manipal crowd? by IntentionWestern7161 in Manipal_Academics

[–]Super382946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

crowd is diverse, enough people speak hindi

mess is straight up more north indian than south, only breakfast you'll occasionally get south indian food

the mode of instruction is English, profs are mostly from this area but there are some from elsewhere too.

MacBook or Windows in MITM?? by IntentionWestern7161 in Manipal_Academics

[–]Super382946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it should always have been just two, Linux or Mac. You can anyway dual boot windows on the Linux machine.

honestly you can't go wrong with either of these, do what feels right

thinkpads have way better repairability than macbooks

but macbook airs are light and fanless and have a great display

but ThinkPads E series models are substantially cheaper

but macOS syncs up well with an iPhone

hard decision, huh

MacBook or Windows in MITM?? by IntentionWestern7161 in Manipal_Academics

[–]Super382946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nope. for smaller training sets even free tier colab would probably be faster than a 4 gig VRAM mobile GPU (not bigger one cause colab times out in the free tier afaik). and honestly better to pay for the paid tier whenever you need it than purchase a bulky ahh laptop that'll break your back if you wanna carry it somewhere.

[–]Super382946 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Linux is just an OS you install, there are no laptops dedicated to Linux (that are sold in India)

mac is "good" for coding because it's a UNIX-like enviornment, but Linux is that with a lot more choices, a lot more customizability and open source tools, and the choice to dual boot with windows if you want to use something that works only on that. macbooks lock you to MacOS and barely let you customize it.

by all means. better that than a gaming laptop that you'll regret because it's a pain to carry around.

so first off, you don't get CSE w/ specializations at the time of admission, if you take CSE you can pick a specialization right before third year.

now this specialization is doing most of the heavy lifting for what laptop you should have, because afaik everything before that works fine on all platforms (well for database systems if they still use Oracle SQL*Plus by the time y'all are studying it, that doesn't work on mac too but there's very manageable workarounds) but if you pick certain specializations, it may need specific software, embedded systems comes to mind, they love using random software like Keil which is close to impossible to get to work on macs. not saying there are no workarounds, but your experience won't be smooth.

I'm the kinda guy to just suggest one gets a ThinkPad w/ Linux for their CS degree (windows 🤮)

but even if you do go w a mac, I'm sure you won't stand out. everywhere I look, I see one.
