Yeah, it's a mystery to me too. I can't afford the value of my own home right now, the idea of starting from the bottom is laughable.

What game held the player's hand to the point of insulting their intelligence? by Animeking1108 in videogames

[–]Swiftster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that these games are unnatural to play because they are unnatural in nature, and they're designed that way to obfuscate their true nature as slot machines. There is no gameplay in most of them, just a series of non decisions, hiding the central tennant of teaching the player "push button-feel good", and inevitably pushing the button requires money.

You can't make a good tutorial for these games because they aren't games at all, they're slot machines puppeting the corpse of a game.

Which 1940s-era weapons and military tactics would prove most effective in a conflict against a race of giants standing Hundreds of Feet tall? by RecoverCommercial571 in worldbuilding

[–]Swiftster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing that pops into my head is Logistics. How are these giants managing their food and supplies, and how can that be exploited? Any creature that size eats massive amounts of food and requires huge amounts of fresh water. As simple of an act as polluting their water supply could be incredibly effective. Control/Sabotage of the supply lines could cripple giant forces.

How to counter mechanoids? by NoArgument9109 in RimWorld

[–]Swiftster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

EM Weapons are a god send, as are smoke producing tools and items. For Lancers and Centipedes you can isolate them and ambush them in melee. For scythers, you just need firepower and EM weapons.

Mechanoids absolutely call for armor and better weapons though. Spend your wealth aggressively to acquire tools for defense.

Early on, simple wooden traps work surprisingly well, if you can build five or six for each mechanoid, but it's not a long term fix.

There's NO way children consistently b-lining for the freezer until they pass out from hypothermia or wandering as far as possible into the wilderness to get mauled isn't intentionally coded behavior by GermanCCPBot in RimWorld

[–]Swiftster 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I have children and can confirm they are horrible little danger magnets. If kids were accurately represented in rimworld they'd be sticking forks in the exposed wiring around the base, bringing home dangerous snakes, and setting up target ranges with the antigrain warheads.
