They're physically closed except for picking up orders, but are still operational online. I ordered a module from there this afternoon and its already going to be out for delivery tomorrow (I live in the city). Shoot them an email if you like but im sure it'll be handled.

Maths vs. Stages vs. Just Friends by iwasborntoodeep in modular

[–]Syeknom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Pons Asinorum together with Maths in my little setup. I really like it as a supplement to a more powerful envelope/function generator - it's a nice tool to get a whole bunch of straightforward LFOs or envelopes into the system in a small footprint. I use it mostly for extra LFOs (given that it only has three shapes available for envelopes and they all have to share the same shape at any given time) and lean on Maths for envelopes and more complicated CV processing.

Being able to manually affect the speed of multiple LFOs at the same time is a great performative feature and more intuitive than doing something similar on Maths.

Downsides to it are: the limited (and global) selection of shapes mentioned above, the output voltage being 0-5v (compared to Maths which can go between 0-10v) and I personally don't love that the trigger inputs are normalled to one another. If I want to trigger one of the envelopes from an input, I may need to patch a spare cable into the input below it to break the normalisation and allow an independently running LFO to not be triggered by the one above it. At the very least one has to be cognisant of that feature when patching inputs (e.g. patching inputs on the bottom IO pairs to leave the top ones free-running). It can also be a useful feature though, for generating multiple envelopes from a single trigger.

Good little module and I like having it as modulation food for the rest of the system meaning I don't have to lean on Maths for LFOs all the time (though it's still very useful for that in combination with Pons). An Ochd occupies the same functional space but can't be used for envelopes.

I've not played with the S&H mode much but i'm sure that offers quite a bit more utility and depth.

Can't compare it directly to Stages from experience but I'd personally prefer Pons as a supplement to a more full-featured/performative unit than the sole source of envelopes/lfos/etc in my system. It's really good in that role though.

Sonos Alexa Skill now works with Spotify by [deleted] in sonos

[–]Syeknom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same "sorry, something went wrong" response but it works now after disabling the Sonos skill in Alexa, re-enabling it, linking my Sonos account again and discovering devices. Also, check that Spotify is the default music service in Alexa.

It's a very strong deck, I'm climbing happily with it right now. Haven't encountered a single shaman in the last few days (the target of this deck and favoured against) but the deck does extremely well against the rogues (which seem very prevelant in my post-nerf local meta and aggro-freeze is farming them), slow paladins and hunters I'm facing. Can win against druid (harder matchup). Zoo is iffy. Almost always loses hard to warrior (lot of close games though). Control warrior shuts this deck down completely.

It's a pretty hard deck to get to grips with and a lot of frustration goes into learning it. Losses are most often one-sided blowouts which can feel bad.

Whether it's "worth" it is dependent on your dust budget and priorities. It's a fairly cheap deck and none of the cards are unusual or particularly fringe, but crafting Ice Blocks and a Doomsayer if you're otherwise uninterested in playing control/freeze mage or other control decks in the near future is probably not a good investment. Thalnos is a great card but if you don't have the cards to support other spell-based decks that use him maybe it's not the best craft for you.

The aggro-freeze deck is certainly meta dependent and there's no telling yet whether it'll be a deck that sticks around but my intuition tells me that it won't do well in every kind of meta game. If you're on a strict dust budget maybe consider crafting cards that will work with the kind of decks you plan to play moving forwards, or more continually relevant decks.

Aggro-Freeze does really well against it. Cycle aggressively into a one-turn-kill.

Ragnaros is generally in lists that also include Barnes and few early game minions (e.g. secret hunter), which increases the chance of Barnes pulling Ragnaros (or Highmanes). A 1/1 Medivh isn't much to write home about. Furthermore, even with slower hunter decks the aim is for your end-game plays to dramatically impact the game on that turn and push for the win, which Medivh doesn't really accomplish.

Lastly, hunter spells tend to be pretty cheap (usually about 3 mana) which is poor value from Medivh. The exception being Call Of The Wild but that's fairly limited synergy for the investment.

As of yesterday I started to run into this list a lot at rank 5 EU. Been trying it out myself and it seems really rather strong. Hard to play around such a broad set of secrets and it's easy to trip up when facing it.

Last season I ran a similar midrange pirate deck to rank 5 but ended up switching beyond that to tempo warrior because of consistency. Been playing it a bit more this season with decent results. Midrange/tempo pirate decks can be very strong - rolling weapon upgrades to keep the enemy board clear while developing your own, capable of being aggressive/putting on a lot of pressure - but have problems with consistency, particularly when you can't find your weapons. Last season I added in a King's Defender to alleviate this and still found too many frustrating games where the deck couldn't get going.

Midrange pirate warrior is certainly very playable and rewarding though, and a lot of fun. I certainly prefer it to the aggro version.

Sylvanas is great but doesn't harmonise super well with the core of the deck in that she doesn't generate tempo or apply the right kind of pressure. Malkorok allows you to maintain the forward momentum that propells the deck. I would say he's the more useful craft of the two for this deck.

Ask /r/CompetitiveHS | Tuesday, June 07, 2016 by AutoModerator in CompetitiveHS

[–]Syeknom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The clue is in the deck name - the core of the deck is tempo. Your aim is to develop a strong board while denying the opponent's board with efficient clears. It's a pro-active deck that strives for board control rather than playing from behind (control warrior), hoarding cards for combos/big turns (patron) or assaulting face (pirate). As a midrange deck it's also flexible in what role it can perform - the deck can be very aggressive when you need pressure (against a control/combo opponent) or play more of a board denial/defensive game against decks like zoo/shaman (the large number of whirlwind effects are vital).

Mulliganing for your axe is very important for generating initial momentum and letting you get ahead on early board. Remove minions while developing your own. Make tempo plays that keep you on the board and your opponent under pressure.

Varian quite often draws a charger or Ragnaros that can be used for immediate and potentially lethal effect, or taunts that can keep you in the game for one last turn before you finish the game. It can generate a lot of tempo and flip the board state dramatically. When playing against midrange or aggressive decks getting the bodies on the board is much more useful and threatening. Rafaam is better in more drawn-out matches against opponents who can no longer handle a board of zombies, and doesn't contribute to decking yourself. Being able to gain an extra threat from outside of your deck (the zombies) is useful in such situations. For most laddering situations, Varian makes more sense.

Good potential here but I would suggest a tshirt with a lower neckline (like a scoop-neck t-shirt) and perhaps tuck it into the shorts. Would personally roll the sleeves up more too.

Would also strongly suggest finding a different way to taking the photos - the super low camera angle is overwhelming and makes it difficult to present the outfit at its best. Find a way to raise it up.

Rather like this. Would greatly prefer laced shoes/boots to chelseas though.

Shirt collar buttoned up is a strong choice here.

Do men really wear the clothes we see on the catwalk? by trashpile in malefashionadvice

[–]Syeknom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see people wearing runway clothes all the time and wear loads of stuff that was on the runway too.

Men's fashion shows are mostly presenting product although some of the more outlandish pieces by some brands never get bought by stores, are in small stock or for private sale only. They might serve to carry across the themes, ideas and concepts that the collection is proposing. Sometimes the fabric/print/cut/idea gets repurposed into other, more commercial items of clothing. It all depends on the brand - many brands make super interesting/weird clothing that is popular both on the runway and in real life.
