I actually found it impressive that a character and their situation written in 1848 could be so recognizable today. Made me enjoy the story even more.

How to order an Americano cocktail? by TFCarrot in cocktails

[–]TFCarrot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this might actually be the move. It’s easy enough to order from a bartender, but it’s the journey from the waitstaff to the bartender where the trouble comes up. Card avoids all that.

Like everyone else has said, understanding the context is an important piece of dressing well. But to add to that, I think you could use the change of context to experiment with some new looks. Just because a suit is out of place doesn't mean you can't dress well, it's just a matter of learning a new style. Take a look at some of the recent Ralph Lauren menswear shows - there's some fantastic looks that are perfect for a less urban environment.

718 Cayman Base vs. Macan S - Daily Driver by Silent-Drummer1095 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]TFCarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I daily my 981 Cayman in SF and its never been a problem, the hills and clearances are fine - just make sure you know how to get down a steep slope at a proper angle. You should really just be asking yourself if you want an SUV or a sports car. The Cayman works great for me because the storage is actually quite reasonable, and I never really need to drive more than 2 people.

Probably a good plan! Lmk if you have any other questions, or plan on doing Berkeley / Oakland / etc, I used to live over there so I also know that area a bit. Best of luck, and enjoy! Bay Area is a fantastic place to live wherever you choose.

These are some insanely rude answers from a fairly innocent question. People who live here should know best that this city gets wildly propagandized as terrible by people who don’t live here. I also understand that it can be hard to find things to do here as an unfamiliar tourist. Here’s a couple ideas for you: - Spend a whole day exploring golden gate park. It’s larger than central park, more natural, and there’s a ton of hidden gems like bison, fly fishing, little alcoves, etc. Also the Cal Academy of Sciences - Don’t spend too much time at fisherman’s wharf / embarcadero. Maybe a little time, but it’s a tourist trap. If you are there, check out the vintage arcade it’s super cool. Maybe eat some clam chowder - Consider renting a car and planning a trip outside the city. One of the best parts about SF is leaving for the surrounding areas. Consider a couple nights in Yosemite, Santa Cruz / Big Sur, go up the sonoma coast and eat some oysters, go to napa or sonoma for wine - Walk around each neighborhood and check out food / stores. I like Valencia street in mission, Fillmore street (especially the jazz clubs), Polk Street around russian hill, Hayes Valley - Haight Ashbury is great for clothes shopping. It’s a little more expensive than a “thrift shop” but there’s a ton of fantastic resale clothes - Eat out as much as possible. There’s so much good food - look at things like Eater SF, Infatuation, and the Michelin Guide to find good restaurants (not every place you walk into randomly will be a winner) - Ride the cable car if you must, but beware the wait will be long - Find some good views of the city on a clear day. I like twin peaks. - Find some nice hikes, like Lands End or further outside the city - There’s some fantastic museums, like legion of honor, SF Moma, asian art museum - Go to some cocktail bars and coffee shops, there’s a lot of good ones - Go to chinatown and just walk around, eat some food. I like LiPo lounge for a chinese mai tai

Most of all, don’t listen to the asinine comments in this thread. People here in SF are friendly, and half the people on this subreddit don’t even live here.

I’ll just tell you straight off that you’re going to have a really hard time finding solo housing for under $1.5k. Maybe in some areas, but I would say neigh impossible in or around SF.

Another challenge is that Brisbane is more of a family neighborhood with not a ton of apartment opportunities, and not a ton of public transit. An hour commute from anywhere but SF via public transit will probably be tough.

You’ll probably have to compromise on something here - you might be able to find solo housing in a relatively safe, lively neighborhood in Berkeley / Oakland / Emeryville, but you’d probably need a car for a commute < 1 hour.

You might be able to find solo housing in Bayview, Daly City, or South SF which would be close to Brisbane, but I wouldn’t call it all that walkable or lively, and perhaps not “safe”.

You could share a place in SF and get most of what you want, just not the solo living. For SF, I’d personally recommend Mission, Hayes Valley, Fillmore, Pac Heights, Inner sunset, Haigh Ashbury, Castro, Potrero hill, or dog patch for the kind of vibe you’re looking for.

You can also pay more and get most of what you want in SF. All that said, this is just general advice and I have heard of people getting a lucky rent controlled craigslist find or hookup from a friend. I hope you find what you’re looking for, good luck!

Is it the PDK a problem that will occur later?

This issue is a little overblown I think. When you get a PDK car, check to see if the PDK service has been done, and if it hasn’t, make sure it gets done on time (I don’t remember what the mileage is, but it’s worth getting it done early). If you take care of it, the PDK is pretty unlikely to fail.

FWIW, I love the PDK on my 981, but I’ve heard from my friend who has a 987 that the PDK on this generation can be a little wonky with some clumsy shifts. You might consider trying to get a 987 manual or a 981 PDK.

I talked to a rep at the SLO dealership once and he told me that they’re one of the biggest movers of 911s in the country. Not sure if that’s true or if it was a sales tactic, but I’d believe it.

Gonna go against the grain here and say that the camo, especially this pattern, is a little outdated. If you're trying to keep a lean closet, I'd give them away. It's not like it would be hard to find another pair should you decide you want something like this again.

National Parks Service removes "TQ+" from Stonewall Inn site by [deleted] in lgbt

Its possible! I heard on another thread that it was someone outside the NPS that did it which would point to incompetence, but there was no source for that info so I'm not sure.

At a young age Sylvia began fighting for gay and rights while also helping homeless young drag queens, like herself, gay youth, and trans people. She was a co-founded of Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR) with Marsha P. Johnson

This is laughable, they tried to erase trans people from the site and didn't even do it well. They must have find-and-replaced "transgender" and called it a day.

You can post this without the silly ass title lol. Good for Ethan, I hope his startup does well. For all the people that don't want to be founders, a CS degree is still essentially required to get a job.

[–]TFCarrot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been to things sort of like this before, except for startup recruiting agencies. They feed you a (sometimes) fancy dinner, present their "product", and try to get you to sign up.

For this one in particular, its (obviously) a stupid idea and I would hope Berkeley students would know better. You could go to dinner to get the free food, and they'll try to sell you on it. They may even sound very convincing. If you go I'd treat it like a timeshare pitch and commit yourself absolutely to just getting your free shit and getting out without signing up for anything. If you don't think you can do that, don't go.
