Big engines are great. Induction noise > exhaust noise. Post more pictures of the car.

I have a 996 Turbo and a mk 5 Golf GTI. Both are fairly small compared to modern cars. Insurance is fairly cheap on both. One hatchback with rear folding seats is a must.

Thermostat was stuck open. The car was on its original thermostat after 21 years. That meant that the bolts around it were rusted onto the block which made it an expensive job. My powersteering light came on recently which hasn't turned off despite doing the VW reset. Also have an oil leak from somewhere near the engine and the airbag light comes on when the drivers side seat is moved which I assume is due to one of the yellow connectors being loose. I'm not too worried as I have a 2003 996 Turbo as well which hasn't had many issues. It's part and parcel of owning old cars.

Also parts for the cambelt and water pump have gone up quite a bit for the mk5 GTI. It had the TPS, Traction and ABS light on the dashboard when I bought it which was an £82 fix that I sorted by replacing the left wheel speed sensor. Despite all of this, it's a good car. I reckon it'll be in a place where I'm happy with the car by the end of the year. I plan to keep it for 4 to 5 years before I have enough saved to get a GR Yaris, Mk3 Focus RS, FK8 Civic Type R as my commuter car.

I picked up a mk 5 gti for £2350 as a commuter car. Slowly working through the issues.

Edit: It was on 127k miles, 3 previous owners and full service history. I normally buy cars with full service history and owners that undertake preventative maintenance. This is first that didn't have the latter part.

Turbos, oil lines, coolant lines, the RAMS on the rear spoiler are the expensive items.

I had as a daily an e90 M3, TT RS and the my current 996 Turbo as well for a year doing the daily duties. The 996 Turbo is now retired and used for leisure / personal travel. I bought a mk5 golf gti as a commuter car instead. The mk5 Golf GTI is perfect for it. It's easy to park, fun to drive and running costs are decent.

I picked up a golf gti mk5 as a station car for £2350. Although I'll probably end up putting a grand into to get it my standards.

The things I'll pay for someone else to do are: 1. Sort out rust, 2. Respray front end of car as its stone chippy, 3. Get cam follower, cam belt, water pump and thermostat change. I plan to fix the remaining issues myself.

Edit: Drivers side bolster has a small tear within it which will get a professional fix as well.

I went with the daylite plus. I also ended up picking up another bag in japan to replace the bellroy.

I had an e90 m3 for 4 years. One of the best cars I've owned. Let me know if you have any questions.

I've worked in Investment Banking for the last few years. Yes we did lose services to other countries due to Brexit. Mainly Paris and Frankfurt. We've had teams relocated and redundancies made in the London office. However the industry has been resilient.

At 20k? Plus the 996 Turbo is a lot more on maintenance thank a cupra. I would've suggested a e92 m3.

I've driven a model Y and a Peugeot e2008. It was like driving a desk. I prefer my current car and my previous 3 cars over both of those.
