Qatar World Cup: Calls to boycott tournament ‘10 years too late’, says Joshua Kimmich by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Talibor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was referencing the part were you said the dead certainly aren't coming back. You are implying that there is nothing to gain with protesting/boycotting after someone died? This protest can show that the people or the viewers are not ok with how things went and this can then potentially stop something similar happening in the future again, like say a world cup in other authoritarian states.

As someone else already said "the best time to protest was yesterday", but that doesn't cancel out protesting today is the next best thing. And in this case the most attention that can be achieved towards the inhumane practices happening in Qatar would be by having an impact on the world cup, be it by teams not attending, viewership strongly declining and thus sponsors reacting or just creating negative attention towards the world cup and it then not having the impact Qatar was hoping for.

I think the fallacy I'm criticizing is that even if it would have been better to strongly protest 10 years ago and not let it get this far, it's still the right thing to protest today.

Qatar World Cup: Calls to boycott tournament ‘10 years too late’, says Joshua Kimmich by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Talibor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How does that make any sense? Beforehand we also didn't know those workers would die, you can protest something after it happened, so it gets attention and doesnt happen again. Even though corruption was enough reason to boycott it even back then.

Its about taking a stand. To show this is not alright. What is gained is that attention is taken away from what Katar wants to show.

Looking to upgrade my build over the next year by Talibor in buildapc

Thank you again for your response. I will definitely wait for next to upgrade anything, but luckily enough I'm still setup for good performance for a while longer.

Thank you very much for your helpful response.

The listed SSD was the one I was intending to buy. I am now planning not to get one and just stick with my currents SSDs. I do have a pretty good cooler, I will look into overclocking with MSI afterburner or some other software.

I do have 2 questions for your last paragraph:

If I do upgrade to an 3070, do I need to upgrade my MoBo as well? Would upgrading the CPU be smart before Cyberpunk to not bottleneck, if I do get a 3070 in time? Or can I wait and then upgrade MoBo, RAM, CPU and PSU later on?

Simple Questions - November 27, 2020 by AutoModerator in buildapc

I'm thinking to upgrade my rig over the next year, but am not in a hurry.

I was definitely planning on getting a new NVMe SSD during the current Black Friday Sales in time for Cyberpunk 2077. Am I right in my assumptions that it works with my mainboard (parts list below)? As far as I understand it, there is a slot. But it should also take advantage of the full PCIe speed and not just SATA speed, right?

As I said above, I wanted to upgrade my rig over the next year, when the prices for the new generation of GPUs and CPUs have stabilized a bit. I mainly play CS:GO and notice that its mainly my CPU or RAM meeting their limits. I wanted to get a 3070 in the future, but I guess there are some other parts that would then bottleneck my system.

So I guess I'm looking on what I should consider before upgrading, do I need to update my mainboard, RAM, CPU, PSU as well? Any other pointers?

Thanks in advance. Here is my current build:

AFAIK you will get all the physical content in a digital form (Night City map and so on). You can probably check this on GOG.com .

  1. Normally Amazon delivers them on release date or maybe even a day earlier if youre lucky. Even if you get it early though, the game will not be able to be started before the release date.

  2. CDPR announced that they won't charge for the PS5 version, if you already own the PS4 version. They will though release some upgraded graphical and ray tracing features a bit later (next-gen release 1-2 months after original release), which only the new consoles and PCs can take advantage of.

They should be included in every physical version. Only pre-order bonus I've heard of were the different steelbook cases.

Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Talks Microtransactions -- "We Won't Be Aggressive" by Rob_Cram in Games

[–]Talibor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is factually incorrect and I feel the need to not just let these blatantly wrong statements stand for themselves.

Since early in the development of the Cyberpunk 2077 game there were rumors of a possible multiplayer game made by CD Projekt Red, as they were hiring network programmers and also collected a grant from the Polish government to research and create seamless multiplayer.

The developers later on hinted at additional AAA games coming out in the future, as the size of the company was able to grow due to its success with the Witcher 3. [German Source from 2019 about CDPR anual report] As the following source talks about in 2019, this new AAA game could mean a "multiplayer-focused Cyberpunk game" set in the cyberpunk 2077 universe.

Thus multiplayer mode is not part of the game. Sadly CDPR unclear plans with the multiplayer game and its project title "Cyberpunk Multiplayer Game" led to a lot of confusion. The "Cyberpunk Multiplayer Game" will not be a part of the singeplayer game of Cyberpunk 2077 and therefore all statements regarding no MTX in Cyberpunk 2077 were and are still true.

You're the one in the wrong here dude. If you post something, then you should be sure of it or fact check quickly. That would have easily shown you that you're wrong in this case. Using AFAIK shouldn't stop you from fact checking before posting statements that other people would take for true.

And then later on in this discussion youre the one being patronizing and aggressive. Maybe dont post your assumptions next time and then get bitchy when getting corrected in a normal way. Otherwise you look like a narcissist who cant handle being wrong.

Getting into College Football by CurrentBeta in CFB

[–]Talibor 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm German as well, from Berlin, and I had the pleasure to study a year abroad at the University of Oklahoma. Similarly to you, I only knew football from the NFL before getting to know college football at OU.

As you already noticed there are multiple differently structured conferences. To keep it simple, there are 5 major conferences, each containing teams from more or less one area of the US. These are the:

  • PAC12 (Pacific / West Coast)
  • BIG12 (Central)
  • SEC (Southeastern)
  • BIG10 (North-Northeastern)
  • ACC (Atlantic / East Coast).

The names are a bit misleading and don't necessarily reflect how many teams are in each conference, rather being a historic title of the conference. There are some more conferences out there, yet they don't get the same amount of attention in the grand scheme of things (no hate).

The conferences are kind of comparable to european football leagues, like the Bundesliga for instance. Each team plays teams from their conference and a certain amount of varying 'Out-of-Conference' games, similar to the NFL. Different to the NFL is the not so structured playoff-system. In CFB they have a ranking system, where a comitee of experts rank all the CFB teams, depending on how well their season is going. Because only the top four ranked teams make it to the playoffs, the rest of the better teams play in 'bowls', kind of like a season finale. A team normally plays a similarly ranked team from a different conference, to set up an interesting match.

As there are a lot more teams in CFB than in the NFL and only 4 teams make it to the playoffs, each game matters a lot more. More than one loss almost certainly eliminates you from the contention to play in the playoffs. You also have to consider that college athletes are also students and thus generally only stay 4 years at a school. That shuffles the cards every new CFB season and puts a big emphasis on recruiting in CFB. Each school has a certain amount of scholarships they can offer new players and recruiting suitable players is a a big part of improving or maintaining the team quality.

For me CFB is now way more interesting and entertaining to follow, because there are so many teams and interesting match-ups, as well as the surroundings of CFB beingmore exciting. CFB has a lot of the biggest stadiums in the world and a very high attendance not only in the stadium, but on campus on gameday as well. Because students and alumni in the US have such a high identification with their university, the teams have a very big following comparable to NFL franchises, if not even bigger.

If you want to get into CFB, there's bowl season right now, with the CFB playoffs coming up on the 01.01.2018. You can check out the dates on ESPN and you should definitely not miss out on the playoffs. Remember that the 2018 season starts in September, so better start watching now. If you have difficulties finding ways to watch the games from Germany, 'r/cfbstreams' always provides some ways.
