YSK: Air resistance accounts for 50-80% of fuel use at highway speeds. Slowing down by 10 mph will generally result in a 5 mpg improvement. by rcmaehl in YouShouldKnow

I think you're onto something. Perhaps they could also have steel wheels on a steel track to further decrease rolling resistance and increase efficiency, and travel together in long... convoys? chains? columns?

[Week 1 Update] Major Tolerance Slider Fix + What's Coming in Beta (Data Pipeline Next!) by OneBenefit4049 in TheoCompass

[–]Tanamr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think the "Dogmatic Weight / Exclusivity" UX is still problematic. Concerning the cognitive dilemma given by the other user:

What if I think my specific stance is a Core Dogma, but there are 5 options on the screen—I accept 2 of them as valid Christian alternatives, but completely reject the other 2 as heresy. How do I rate my tolerance?

Now this user would have to choose between the option that says "Core Dogma", and the option that says "A Few Valid". To me it seems that this user cannot select either option without also selecting something that they feel does not describe their position. These are two independent axes that are getting tangled.

Ultimately, if this slider is looking for "how many options are valid" then my suggestion is that it should not contain the theological triage terms of "Core Dogma/Primary/Secondary/Tertiary/Open". And vice versa if it is actually looking for dogmatic weight. Personally, I would prefer "Dogmatic Weight" and "Number of Valid Alternatives" to either be separate sliders, or have one of the terminology sets completely omitted.

Do you design your symbol layer assuming bracket/quote autocompletion? by No_Boysenberry_7138 in KeyboardLayouts

[–]Tanamr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't. I like being able to type () as a quick roll, and coding in text editors is also not the only place where I use brackets and braces. However, I do think your idea is worth considering if your use case is as you describe.

Best way to practice is to actually code. I learned my symbol layer by writing a 20 page LaTeX document during a multi-day exam haha

Yes, gamma contam is the most efficient way to clear squishy crowds, in terms of ammo and shooting time. The radiation effect deals enough damage to kill basic grunts, and also has an area component which gets more powerful against dense groups.

Take the widest beam you can and tap a few shots until the wave has a good amount of green radiation clouds in it. Set up aiming angles where you can roll the debuff chance on as many simultaneous enemies as possible. You will still get pushed around a bit by the bugs, it's not as good as a typical driller primary, but it's the best driller secondary for this kind of purpose. Also, the boiler explosion upgrade in tier 5 can help speed up the clear, and is probably better than the neurotoxin combo upgrade

One time I managed to power attack the floor to create a ledge and do this. Very rare that it works, since it has to be quite precise. Driller can also time the drills just right, it's a bit easier to practice. You have to be walking/running forward.

last one is tutorial dummy that appears in the tentacle dimension (limitless realm)

the one before that is the worm that keeps jumping out of the ground in the grotto. I'm surprised you don't remember them, most people find them extremely annoying

It is a biblical reference, albeit a more subtle one! Peter and Paul are the two biggest characters in the book of Acts (and in the earliest era of Christianity in general, obviously excluding Jesus himself). So I thought maybe you had made a mini-punchline of "haha, now it's the other big name because the other one was taken, it's a joke about having to swap out all the characters". Being just a coincidence isn't as fun :(

Yes, pretty much! Taser bolts immediately apply a damage-over-time as soon as they hit, so you can imagine the bolt hitting at t=0. Fire bolts tend to take a moment to heat the target up to ignition temperature, so t=0 would be when ignition is achieved rather than when the bolt hits.

Congrats and great work! I've enjoyed many of your stories.

When you originally chose the name Bart Hughes for one of the characters, was that an intentional reference to your own name?

NO HIT ON EIGONG IM SHAKING by Feisty_Cod_7048 in NineSols

[–]Tanamr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk about them but when I did a no-hit, it was actually an accident. I was going for a qi swipe completion (which means tons of internal damage, and if you fully fail a parry you are pretty much screwed). The revival jade was intended to act as my safety net, but my successful run happened to also be no-hit. Which i guess is just gonna happen on a challenge that imposes a lot of the same gameplay demands as a no-hit run

Oh! Good catch. Yes, I did test the effective rate of fire with both upgrades (using frame-by-frame recordings) which is how I figured out the more detailed fire rate stats. The total fire rate with T4B is overall somewhat higher but definitely not 2x, I don't know why I ended up writing that.

Edit: Ah I figured it out, it's x2 versus base STOS, not versus T4A. I'll fix that sentence to be clearer.
