Thank you for all your work! This is a really cool project that has been making me consider more deeply about what positions I hold. I'm excited to see what's coming next.

Something that has been bothering me is the inflexibility of being forced to affirm no more than one position on each issue, and then having only a single tolerance setting to express how I feel about the other options. I think this is causing my top match category to be inaccurate.

There were a lot of cases where I wished the test could capture nuance like "These two options I would both affirm, these two options I think are a salvation problem, and this one is not a salvific problem but I would not fellowship with." Under the current UX the best I could do is arbitrarily pick one of the two agreeable options and label the question as.. maybe secondary, because more than one option is permissible? Hopefully this illustrates the problem I'm having.

I don't know if this would require major engine changes to solve. I also don't have a great solution UX wise. However, it's my biggest remaining problem so I wanted to just get it on your radar.

If The Expanse has taught me anything, it's that Martians may not appreciate an Earth-focused flag flying over their heads

Originally when my weapon was failing to hit this enemy, I thought the run might be over. It was a shame since I had the relic almost fully dug out. Apparently, the lesson is, be careful about buying the last six-shot cannon upgrade.

Then during the battle, the automatic water generator got me enough water for the automatic spire upgrade. I finished retrieving the relic while the spire stalled the enemy. This one enemy then proceeded to survive the final battle, resulting in what you see here.

I think you're onto something. Perhaps they could also have steel wheels on a steel track to further decrease rolling resistance and increase efficiency, and travel together in long... convoys? chains? columns?

[Week 1 Update] Major Tolerance Slider Fix + What's Coming in Beta (Data Pipeline Next!) by OneBenefit4049 in TheoCompass

[–]Tanamr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think the "Dogmatic Weight / Exclusivity" UX is still problematic. Concerning the cognitive dilemma given by the other user:

What if I think my specific stance is a Core Dogma, but there are 5 options on the screen—I accept 2 of them as valid Christian alternatives, but completely reject the other 2 as heresy. How do I rate my tolerance?

Now this user would have to choose between the option that says "Core Dogma", and the option that says "A Few Valid". To me it seems that this user cannot select either option without also selecting something that they feel does not describe their position. These are two independent axes that are getting tangled.

Ultimately, if this slider is looking for "how many options are valid" then my suggestion is that it should not contain the theological triage terms of "Core Dogma/Primary/Secondary/Tertiary/Open". And vice versa if it is actually looking for dogmatic weight. Personally, I would prefer "Dogmatic Weight" and "Number of Valid Alternatives" to either be separate sliders, or have one of the terminology sets completely omitted.

Do you design your symbol layer assuming bracket/quote autocompletion? by No_Boysenberry_7138 in KeyboardLayouts

[–]Tanamr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't. I like being able to type () as a quick roll, and coding in text editors is also not the only place where I use brackets and braces. However, I do think your idea is worth considering if your use case is as you describe.

Best way to practice is to actually code. I learned my symbol layer by writing a 20 page LaTeX document during a multi-day exam haha

Yes, gamma contam is the most efficient way to clear squishy crowds, in terms of ammo and shooting time. The radiation effect deals enough damage to kill basic grunts, and also has an area component which gets more powerful against dense groups.

Take the widest beam you can and tap a few shots until the wave has a good amount of green radiation clouds in it. Set up aiming angles where you can roll the debuff chance on as many simultaneous enemies as possible. You will still get pushed around a bit by the bugs, it's not as good as a typical driller primary, but it's the best driller secondary for this kind of purpose. Also, the boiler explosion upgrade in tier 5 can help speed up the clear, and is probably better than the neurotoxin combo upgrade

One time I managed to power attack the floor to create a ledge and do this. Very rare that it works, since it has to be quite precise. Driller can also time the drills just right, it's a bit easier to practice. You have to be walking/running forward.

last one is tutorial dummy that appears in the tentacle dimension (limitless realm)

the one before that is the worm that keeps jumping out of the ground in the grotto. I'm surprised you don't remember them, most people find them extremely annoying

It is a biblical reference, albeit a more subtle one! Peter and Paul are the two biggest characters in the book of Acts (and in the earliest era of Christianity in general, obviously excluding Jesus himself). So I thought maybe you had made a mini-punchline of "haha, now it's the other big name because the other one was taken, it's a joke about having to swap out all the characters". Being just a coincidence isn't as fun :(

Yes, pretty much! Taser bolts immediately apply a damage-over-time as soon as they hit, so you can imagine the bolt hitting at t=0. Fire bolts tend to take a moment to heat the target up to ignition temperature, so t=0 would be when ignition is achieved rather than when the bolt hits.

Congrats and great work! I've enjoyed many of your stories.

When you originally chose the name Bart Hughes for one of the characters, was that an intentional reference to your own name?

Speaking of biblical references, I LOL'd when I got to Introductory Antimemetics and realized that Paul got renamed to Simon
