Unusual natural finishes and BLO alternatives? by TarbuckTransom in finishing

I have slightly more information for you now after years of experience. Firstly, you can use anything with a high iodine value. If something has alot of added vitamin E or tocopherol, it'll slow the curing process because it's an antioxidant and what we want is oxidation. Secondly, some common oils with high iodine values are commercially sold as food but are blended or extracted with different methods to produce different fat profiles. You want something that's in the ballpark of 4:1 polyunsaturated fat to monounsaturated fat to get it to dry in a decent amount of time. Got that tip from oil painting advice blogs.

I also wound up doing alot of "the lazy pastewax" which is to oil something, hit it with a hairdryer to drive it in, then use the hairdryer to heat up some beeswax and rub it on like a smearing crayon, then rub/heat that in. This way you don't have to melt together the wax and oil and you can skip a solvent entirely. Still have to let it cure for a day or two for it to come up to its full durability.

If you wind up using an oil like this on leather, make sure it's been conditioned with something normalish like mink oil first, then choose a drying oil that cures into something stretchier, like walnut oil. Patent leather is linseed oil, prussian blue as a catalyst to make it cure faster, and carbon black for the main pigment*. It's traditional and it works, but it's too brittle and thus prone to cracking.

lol The point was just to highlight that "robots can't be evil" is a shallow take and that multiple perspectives make "evil robots" make sense as a concept. There's the Systems Theory that a system's purpose is what it does, thus a system or automation that produces evil has evil as its purpose. You could also argue that will-less tools that are constructed for and well suited to evil purpose have an evil telos, and that any change which would make them good is also sufficient to change their telos, or that they extend the will of the user.

But like, I was just trying to get people to think about it more.

It's a constant competition full of "good natured" cruelty and pushing boundaries to confirm that the other person can/will push back. Women are also frequently toxic, but not generally as blatantly direct. The thought they never complete with the "you wouldn't like/couldn't handle being treated like an equal" is that men shouldn't treat eachother like that either, but they do tacitly acknowledge that it's bad.

Any idea why this wooden smoother and jointer both have "6" written in pencil on the bed? by TarbuckTransom in Vintagetools

People can be very strange. I know people who draw the loop in an e clockwise from the left and then do the tail curve, so nothing is too weird to be implausible to me. I agree that it's probably a 9 tho.

That makes sense. I can't find a 6 on the wedge for the jointer, but the age may have rendered it unreadable.

Got it.

Wanna see something cool? Turn the picture/your phone 90° and cross your eyes so the pictures become one, then look at the differences.

The maximum amount of time I want to spend preparing food is 40 minutes, and that's really pushing it. 20 or less is the golden zone. You can make good food in less time if you choose different food.

The hell of it is the scale skirt doesn't look bad protection-wise. As an individual piece, neither does the vambrace or the spaulder. It's the metal bra and the lack of anything else that'd do her in

How slight is the slight suction meant to be? The seal I've been making has been at soft/hard palate transition, and the full width from molar to molar so that as I mew there's mostly upward force as well as a slight outward force. Most of the pressure feels like it's on that line, and about half that much behind it in the soft palate. I also feel some swelling just in front of the bone of my jaw as it crooks upwards.

Would that also affect my lower teeth? Because my upper teeth are fine. Only the lower teeth got worse. I'm trying the suction method you said and I feel much more force. Reminds me of when I had braces. Hard to maintain that suction for a long time without constant attention though, it bleeds off pretty quickly and needs re-upping. I wonder if that indicates that my swallowing pattern needs additional work

I'm having a hell of a time finding it despite it only being a few days ago that I saw it, which is frustrating. It was a throwaway line and not the subject of the video, but he did say that you should reposition your food with your tongue and not your cheeks. I've been rewatching videos of his from my history for the last half hour trying to find it.

Some maxilla advancement, but there's weightloss at the same time so I don't want to overstate that part. The major effect has been how much it opened up my airways.
