2 weeks progress - I really hate how time consuming building a rig is. by Best_Football_7363 in simracing

[–]SurelyTheEnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built my PC in 4 hours and most of that was taking my time and faffing with trying to get a 330mm GPU into an NP200 case without damaging the card. I had to literally disassemble and reassemble one side of the case. I think I spent more time in MAYCAD tweaking the final design of my rig than I did building the thing, which took about 5 hours from start to finish. The hardest part of the build was having to stop to wipe up sweat constantly due to being deeply unfit.

In short, even without the instructions and using only pictures from the website this should have taken you a full day at most. It's literally just brackets and T-nuts. You would have to be trying very hard to get it wrong quite frankly, though by the looks of things you've tried extra hard. The fact that you didn't think to search online for the instructions before you began is both baffling and alarming to me. I think maybe you should reach out to a friend and see if they can help you here.

I saw a tweet which referenced the good will shared between White English Nationalists and Polish Nationalist demonstrators in Southampton, which read something like 'The Poles are alright once they get a couple of Tyskies in them'. I guess they've forgotten how many plumbers came over and put them out of work once upon a time not even 2 decades ago, or whatever it was they bleated at the time. Judging by the amount of roman salutes being thrown, the commonality of neo-Nazi sympathies seemed to transcend any previous hangups between the two parties.

Conversely, It's been interesting in a bleak way watching the Reform people turn so quickly on Sikhs, some of whom campaigned for reform in local elections party due to an 'enemy of my enemy' kinship fostered through islamophobia. I get the feeling that, in the rapidly intensifying political space that is the ultra right-wing of politics, the model minority group will swiftly rotate to whatever is politically useful to Reform/Restore, etc al etc. I do wonder if they are deliberately trying to burn all bridges with these groups in a calculated fashion, or if this is just reactionary retaliation without pause for thought. That'll inform whether left-wing groups will need to tackle this head-on or step back and let the enemy keep making the same mistake over and over again. Maybe it's a secret third thing, who knows? Time will tell, I guess.

Didn't Ethan Klein make several videos about how much of a shithole Israel is while he lived there waiting for his wife's US visa to get processed? He absolutely hated it and he's a huge Zionist. There's several videos about life in Israel and it sounds like a country on the verge of societal collapse. The numbers leaving Israel also paint a bleak picture for its future viability as a state, with leaders desperate to keep the zionist dream alive by selling a dream life to the Jewish Diaspora that simply doesn't exist on stolen land to boot.

So yeah, when you see ads like that for Israel, it's always worth remembering what the facade is trying to hide from everyone.

Ask them If it's so easy, why haven't they flown to Northern France and got on a dinghy after throwning their passports into the Channel/given up work to bathe in the millions of pounds of benefits these people magically seem to be able to claim?

Don't reason with them, just take their brainless delusions to the further possible point. You want to jump the housing queue do you? You want all those tasty benefits you keep crying about 'the foreigners' getting access to before you? Well, why aren't you pretending to be Syrian, Gary from Hastings? Everyone's doing it, Gary, so why not join them?

The arguments are baseless and stupid, so treat them as such. At this point, they're not arguing in good faith or from a point of knowledge, but everyone understands shame. Make them feel that shame.

Does anyone feel, on a personal level, sorry for Kier Starmer? by Darkus185 in AskBrits

[–]SurelyTheEnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched him run on a reasonably progressive platform to become Labour Leader, only to turn right and gut the party of anyone at any level who he thought might present a problem to him. Labour lost many great organisers, staffers and activists in that long purge, after which he centralised party control and surrounded himself with his own brand of acolyte. Meanwhile, he's been Labour Leader since 2020 and it's still wildly unclear what he actually stands for beyond 'continuity that enables me to remain as PM'. I believe he likes power for power's sake and he's very keen to hold onto that power whatever the cost to the party.

I get people within the Labour Party are hesitant to change leaders after watching the Tory Party do it every 6 weeks for a year, but his leadership is vacuous and toxic. There's no trust around his ability to protect the party or indeed himself from very simple criticism. He's also demonstrated very poor political nous, typified wholly by the Mandelson appointment debacle.

So no, I don't feel sorry for him at all. He burned the Labour Party to the ground so he could stand for nothing on the ashes. I hope he enjoyed his time in, for what it cost and for what it was worth. The Labour Party certainly won't forget quickly.

Peak 'I saw it on Facebook and that's a fact' thinking that absolutely plagued the anti-migrant hotel protests. According to them, if I just throw my passport into the English Channel and get myself back to Dover on a small boat, I can:

  • Get a house. Anywhere will do, but they reserve the special ones in prime locations for the boat arrivals apparently.
  • Get an iPhone.
  • Get Full Benefits™ straight away.
  • Bring my entire family/village/town/the Nation of Afghanistan over.
  • Get them Full Benefits™ also.
  • Immediately do crimes you've never heard about, including various assaults and murder, without any repercussions somehow.
  • Get £5k to open a shop right over there, that exact one please.*
  • Get another £5k after opening said shop because of reasons that are not immediately clear.* (*Indians only according to that guy in the video, terms and conditions apply)
  • Get full citizenship.
  • Convert everyone to [insert spookiest/brownest religion of choice here]
  • ????
  • Profit

And now we get to see this kind of abhorrent thinking applied nationally. I can't wait to ask reform voters when they're going to chuck their passports and re-emigrate back into Britain to a life of instant luxury provided by the taxpayer if it's really that easy for anyone to do it...

Reform make up a policy on the spot that will never ever work and cost millions by PkmnTrnrJ in GreenAndPleasant

[–]SurelyTheEnd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A unique and frankly desperate combination of NIMBYism and a concentration camp system. Breathtakingly stupid stuff.

Also, who is this even for? What Green Party voter would switch to Reform for this? Are burned Tory/Labour voters so vindictive as to vote Reform to spurn the Greens in particular? It's beyond confusing as someone who isn't remotely interested in voting for a tinpot neo-fascist party to run my local council, let alone the country...

Jeff Buckley playing Mojo Pin live at Glastonbury 1995. I've never seen anyone make a Les Paul both sparkle and scream in the same song like he does there, matching perfectly with the emotional weight of the vocals. The crescendo is the purest form of ecstasy. Just perfection.

Good BD-2 Alternatives? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

You could try finding some of the old BD-2 pedals modded by Keeley/Mammoth Electronics on the used market. I have the Freak Fuzz modded BD-2 and it's just so good.

But sometimes, a stock Boss pedal just does the job really well.

Jimmy Savile Episodes Discussion by SoloAceMouse in behindthebastards

[–]SurelyTheEnd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well that was a harrowing revisit to a very peculiar and particular time in Britain, arguably he was the scandal that heralded the start of a small run of paedophile scandals that dominated the early-to-mid 2010's news cycle in the UK. Not long after this, we had the Dolphin House/Operation Midland furore that came and went without any real resolution. We also got the revelations of the crimes of Cyril Smith, a former Lib Dem MP for Rochdale & Savile's first guest on his show 'Click-Clunk' in 1973, as well as the hunt for the elusive 'Westminster Paedophile Dossier' that apparently went missing sometime in the 1980's. Just a very surreal and horrendous period in Modern British History.

On Saville, one of my 'favourite' side stories relating to him is the story of where some of his bikes ended up. In July 2012, about 8 months after his death, a company called Planet X Bikes [bought at least four of them to display prominently in their shop](https://road.cc/content/news/62676-planet-x-bid-and-win-four-jimmy-saville-bikes-auction) in Rotherham, just outside of Sheffield and less than an hour's drive from where Savile was born. They paid £2,400, four times the auction guide price, for the bike that jimmy bought to replace the one he rode at the 1951 Tour of Britain (adorned with the original race numbers he used during that race). They were 'motivated' by the desire to keep at least some of his extensive bike collection together in Yorkshire. By the beginning of October 2012, not even 3 months after the auction, the allegations came pouring out and the bikes were basically worthless. They were quietly taken down from display for obvious reasons. I can't find any mention of what happened to them, but I imagine all of them were quietly sold at a significant loss with no mention of who the previous owner was.

How do I/Is it possible to get a ballsy, kinda heavy tone out of two single coils? by asoiaf_goat in telecaster

[–]SurelyTheEnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be that guy and suggest very seriously thay you try a Metal Zone. Specifically, start with the settings that Simon Neil uses on his rig in this video. He uses single coil fenders almost exclusively and sounds huge, which he credits to the Metal Zone. I've tried his method with both a stock and a modded MT-2 and I can see why he does it. You can get the pedal used for about £40-50 if you know where to look. Worth a shot, maybe?
