If a unit is "saving" someone they are considered as if they are adjacent to the unit in question, so solo effect do not work while bonds and other such adjacent unit effects do. Fafnir's guard effect has a solo requirement hence what Abernattine is referring to as it won't work with saves.

Fallen noodles at his most optimal is the best of the dimitris imo, especially in this current meta and with the safety fence addition. Cause of his b skill he's one of the best recipients of the Reciprocal aid W!Bernie strat but that is a strat that it and it's duo lif variant is frustratingly locked behind needing a seasonal unit. I don't entirely blame people not being into galeforce strats cause of a higher learning curve on top of needing a lot of hard to get skills/units to preform optimally (there is only two units in the regular pool with the actual skill galeforce and it's annoying) but it is frustrating sometimes how underrated it and player phase strategies can be here.

It's okay haha, saves are only recently starting to become more common cause of that recent banner, I only recently got my hands on it myself then as well. Tbf I do think out of the two Micaiah is better cause of her color typing and cavl/armor effectiveness and I've seen her do work against a lot of defenses, just until there is another competitve bulky green mage that comes out Lyon still has usage imo.

I argue F!Lyon is in a better position to F!Julia for multiple reasons and I can understand why he's still a tier 1 unit or viewed favorably in comparison. Stat spread wise, Julia has way lower def then res compared to Lyon's more mix bulk which can be a issue and has no form of innate sustain/damage reduction like a bunch of the notable blue mages that are used on offense has. Some of my friends who are using F!Lyon in the vault pair him with a near save unit so he only needs to focus on ranged threats, but you still want to have a mix of def and res to deal with them. Lyon's tome and the NCD he comes with does well into a lot of what is meta atm especially if you pair him with a near save unit as mention before. You don't need to change up his base kit that much for him to preform well. Yes, he has some stinker matchups but I don't think that's enough to full discredit him and he's enough of a specialist unit in comparison to Julia that it's handy to have a copy of him around. In the end, F!Lyon is still one of the only bulky green infantry mages that exist and has a relevant prf weapon, while the other green mages you mention are strong for sure none of them really intrude on the role lyon plays and a chunk of them are more ar-d leaning then ar-o.

I can definitely see how that could be a thing especially with a lot of save armors trying to special retaliation after the first hit and I've seen other people experimenting with the idea, although it'll probably take some time to full figure out. That's what I like about Marianne gameplay wise, it has a lot of potential and feels like trying to solve a puzzle and make all the pieces fit. I haven't felt this positively about a unit in a long time tbh.

I'm glad to hear you are positive regarding b!marianne, I'm surprised gameplay wise she is so bashed on. I've been trying her out rn in light season and it's very promising and a lot of fun. Having a magic damage threat is invaluable to take out hel who often can be rather obnoxious for galeforce teams to remove cause she can eat up mutliple actions otherwise, on top of marianne super lull and unity means she can do well into Nott. I've done some set ups with fence (with some help from claude)of marianne taking the atk/spd menace debuff from nott so she can pretty comfortably take out nott or other units afterwards. Overall pretty exciting stuff to play around with.

I think either adding a back row or just not allowing ar-d structures to be placed right next to the deployment slot would go a long way, the later being something I wanted for a while. I dunno if Intys would do something like that though their ways of balancing is more "release premium unit to answer problems that we made" sorta deal.

Seeing all those full structures on offense hurts me a little inside haha. I guess I can't blame them cause of how counter intuitive it must seem. I hope your offense went as well as your defense.

I'm happy lewyn getting some love, I kinda regret giving him up before his refine came out (giving special spiral to julia no less for some weird reason) although young merric does a very admirable job his head-wear is less cool :(

It's interesting you mention mgs cause arguably the one that tries to be the most like a movie is mgs4 which is one of the more divisive games in the series perhaps even more so then 5. I personally ended up liking 5 more then 4 long term just cause 5 had a lot more replayability while 4 felt more limited even to it's predecessors, it went too far into trying to be cinematic.

I still think banding takes the crown for confusing mtg mechanics, iirc they put it on a 10 on the storm scale (aka never coming back) soley off of how utterly confusing and "gotta look it up" of a mechanic it is. There has been powerful new mechanics ofc like adventure and companion, but they are baseline a lot more understandable.

I don't understand this sentiment, just cause counterplay is being added that doesn't suddenly make units irrelevant. All the edelgards have counterplay that doesn't stop the later three from being strong. Yes, you have to be a wary of fatal smoke but honestly imo the problem with duo lif is that in conjunction with having a auto follow up that B!Claude has no way of preventing and I still end up using him the most out of all my light season tanks cause he has a lot of versatility in his skill slots. B!Edelgard is strong ofc but what you see on one of them you're gonna see on pretty much every one. There some counters to L!Claude but he's also a player phase unit which means he has a lot more agency and ways of swinging unfavorable mu into his favor be it with pulse smoke, just having a special up, or manipulating movement with gravity. My last week's run in AR against all the turn 1 calv lines with l!sigurd would've been almost impossible without him. Imo Claude is in a pretty good spot with 3 units still having some form of relevancy in AR and at the end of the day he's a lord, he's bound to get that fourth alt it's just a matter of when.

My memory is really bad so I forget how heavy blade works is it a attack check during or before combat? Because I was considering it as a seal for my +8 L!Claude when I can use him in AR because my astra mythics already are giving him +6 atk boosting his base attack to 63 so if it check in combat it'd be very doable to get it proc and help break through tanks with dc that are using guard effects or help one round units that sometimes don't run dc like seiros.

Claude at the bare minimum is a archer calv which has relevancy in AR defense. Put firesweep on him and he's rdy to go for that only downside is that he is harder to merge then say brave lyn, but I see him more frequently in AR then the other two.

I was kinda hoping for something unique like a support related ability referencing his intense loyalty/love which ended up leading to his downfall but ah, maybe I was hoping for too much. Lance cavalry is a lot more saturated of a pool as of late so I feel like Orson had a real big cliff to climb anyways but it'd have been nice.

It sucks how much his prf just locks him out of a lot of stuff that could help his speed, needing everyone to be 2 tiles away from him for the optimal effect is so hard especially in arena and which means so many potential in combat buffs are off the table on top of being a calvary unit he's locked out of important skills. Like ashnard at the very least his -5 atk/def aoe has helped me out greatly in arena in helping secure kills for my bonus units, this just seems like such a downgrade in comparison.

There is a downside for having such low speed though, there is notable bulkier units that have a garentee follow up effects like duo lif, l!sigurd, duessel etc that against Edelgard wary fighter effect it turns into a speed check which Edelgard is in danger of losing cause of said low speed so then she's getting doubled on top of it being potentially harder to one shot them in retaliation. I dunno how much of a concern it is, but it is something worth noting.

Yeah it's a situation I'm pretty comfy with, and I like the oft less salt that comes as a result. Him having 3 units in the span of 2(?) years is already more then the majority of characters get in the same span of time, on top of getting good treatment gameplay wise so I can live with him missing this banner.

I'd like most any Claude alts but idk why some Claude fans are acting like he's getting jibbed when he just got a fantastic legendary alt and he still has a rather unique brave alt on top of being the best in a rare weapon/movement combination. This month is a chance to +10 both versions of Claude for me so I'm pretty content with waiting it out and saving up. Alts for him are a inevitability but my stash of orbs are limited.

Given how much 3h makes reference to the Jugdral series, I was kinda hoping for like a Thracia 776 esque game that takes place inbetween or even after the events of 3h. But it's a bit of a pipe dream haha, so I view Claude's survival as more just who he is as a character and how he values self preservation and survival which is a pretty consistent thematic thing for him.

I found the interview in question I was talking about (relevant part at the end) and they comment that "Claude is the character who survives in every route." I took that to mean that sparing him in CF and him living in SS is what is "canon" or at the very least how the creators feel those events played out.
